Hi, Here is another question stemming from the dive into my red bike's dash: Is the trip odo reset rubber cover available as a spare part from Yama ? I have been to the Yama mother ship's web site and looked on the parts diagrams but I don't see it identified as an available part. Any one know? Are there any crafty work arounds I should know about, like modifying a baby bottle nipple to act as a stand in or similar? Thanks, Brian H.

This time of year I watch the weather looking for a nice day to plan a trip on the 1st Gen. And week after week I am consistently disappointed with the weather but more importantly, the timing of the weather. I am noticing (and I'm sure many of you have as well) that the weather during the week will have one or two days of sunshine while the weekend is always wet and miserable. I propose we reset the week. We need to pause the week so that the weather comes into alignment with the days of the week and that will give us sunny weekends. So here's what we do. Wednesday October 31 will be the start of the reset. The next day will be Wednesday November 01, and the third day will be Wednesday November 02. Then we carry on as usual. We have now reset the week. Now the days that used to be sunny in the middle of the week are now the weekend and we can ALL appreciate more sunny days on the weekends. If this doesn't work, I'm moving to Texas. They always seem to have sunny weekends. Thomas

OK, here's an odd problem on my RSV. A few weeks ago, I noticed that my clock had been reset. I thought I may have pressed the buttons the wrong way when scrolling through the trip meter, so I forgot about it. Went to use it today and noticed that it showed the odometer instead of my trip meter, so I selected the trip meter and, lo and behold, both of them were at 0 KM (They were at 91 KM when I turned it off yesterday) and the clock had been reset. I didn't have the battery tender on so nothing has touched the bike. Anybody ever have this problem before? Andy

I want to add a single pushbutton that will override the fan sensor and run the cooling fan, but then reset when I start moving. I know how to wire up 3 relays to do a latch on fron a single press of a button and use a 12V trigger to reset it. I figure I can use the Turn signal cancel signal that will cancel the turn signals when you go above 25mph to reset my fan override. Does anyone know where that signal comes from and if it is 12 volts?

2001 RSV with 90,000 miles, cruise will work some times, other times it wont, have been having this problem for about 7 months now. Some times it will set and work great, other times you have to turn it off and on several times before it will work, and then when you cancel or touch brake it wont reset and you have to turn switch off and on several times to get it to set. Getting to be a pain. Any ideas?

I just got 6 old laptops from work that they were going to trash, the one in question is a Dell Insipiron 2500 with Win 2000 pro. The person that used this computer no longer works there and it's password protected, no one know what it may be, is there any way I can get around this and reset the user and password. I don't want to do a fresh install because there are some programs i suspect on there that I want to keep and use.

Strangest thing I've ever seen... Happened AGAIN!

So I rode my bike to work yesterday... A little chilly in the morning, but gorgeous on the way home... Even took the long way home. (20 mile detour.) Right before I got home, I stopped to top off the tank, and reset the trip meter (as I always do) then it happened... I turned the key back on, and switched back from trip to Odometer and WTF?!?!?! MY MILEAGE IS RESET TO ZERO! Now, my bike is clean, but not THAT clean! I checked to make sure it wasn't some fluke, and that I wasn't reading the trip meter, when I got home, I reset the trip again, and sure enough I have 3 miles on my bike now. Great. I already have a company that will fix it for $55 if I ship it to them with a bunch of paperwork, and that's what I had to do the last time, (yeah it has happened before) but I want to make sure it doesn't happen again. As a computer tech, my only thoughts are that somehow something is grounding out, or had voltage sent to it in a bad way that might have reset some type of EEPROM that holds the mileage. I hate to replace the ENTIRE wiring harness, but I guess I don't have much of a choice, unless it's something in the gauge cluster? Any thoughts? Maybe I should just buy another cluster instead? I don't want to just let it keep resetting, I'm not fond of felony fraud. -
When I 1st got it, I could see icons for restaurants, gas stations, etc...on the map while I was driving. When I called Garmin on my issue, they had me to a hard reset so now all that is gone. Any ideas on how to get them back? Looked at the manual and doesn't seem to help. Thanks.

Of course it's in the center, farthest back. How far am I going to have to disassemble the bike to get this out? After having to reset 12 of the 16 valves, my day ends like that.

Hello All, I wanted to tell you all how you can repair your own gps and save a cuppel of dolers, (The problem I had) At first while driving the screen would go from 3D to always north to always up and be switching screens 3 to 4 times a second. It would finally go back to normal. After about a month of this the touch screen would work intermittently. It finally quit working completely on a trip one day. I took the thing apart and found the cable to the touch screen was really loose. I reinstall it and now its working again for now. You should try a soft reset to the GPS first before attempting this repair, it will not delete the address book. You can do a Hard reset to the GPS also but you will loos your address book. To perform a Hard Reset of the unit (will delete way-points and address book) Turn the unit off, press and hold the Speak/Volume button and then press and hold the Power/Light button. Hold both buttons down until the unit powers up and you get the Testing 123 screen. Release the 2 buttons and you will see a button on the screen that says Hard Reset, press it and the unit will warn that this will delete all user data (address book). The unit will shut off, turn it back on and the unit is reset. To perform a soft reset Turn the unit off, press and hold the map/music button and then press and hold the Power/Light button. Hold both buttons down until the unit powers up and you get past the loading bar at the bottom of the screen then release. To do the repair your self you will need a T8 bit driver a Philips screw driver, cup or plate to put the hardware on or in and a pare of tweezers. start by removing the screws around the out side edge of the GPS using the T8 driver. Do not remove the Philips screws on the out side of the case. Now split the unit open just a little to get at the black plug cable and remove it by unclasping it and then pull. Next you want to pull of the USB cable. Next pull off the ribbon cable from the board Now remove the cable from the GPS board by pulling on it. Now the cable that is for the touch screen is hear and can cum loos from vibration. You will need to remove the key pad cable from the board by pulling on it lightly till it unplugs from the board Be careful with this cable it can be damaged essay Now to fix the GPS you will have to remove 4 Philips screws from the main board and lift the board up a little to get at the touch screen cable. Using your fingers or tweezers, pull the cable out of the connecter by pulling the cable gently back turds the other end of the board. DO NOT TUCH THE OTHER CABLE it goes to the screen. Once you have the cable out slide it back into the socket all the way till it stops, be careful not to damage the cable it is real eyes to damig it. Now just follow the instructions in revers to reassemble then test the GPS. You may have to perform a soft or hard reset to the unit to reset the touch screen. If this does not fix your touch screen problems the screen may need to be removed and cleend. I can tell you how to do this if you feel brave. I can send you the instructions or I can do this service or repair for you just drop me a message.

My Zumo decided today that it will pick an icon for me and hold it. Won't let go of it. If I push another it bounces back and forth but will just stop on one like your holding your finger on it. Tried reset ,battery removal and updating. Nothing worked yet. Anybody else seen this behavior ? I don't mean me beatin my head against the wall...

I do believe I am having the dreaded ignition switch failure and I would love some help with the diagnosis. Twice the bike has started, but the instrument panel has remained blank. This corrected itself when I turned the switch off, then back on. Often now it will reset my trip odometers to zero and the clock to 1:00 when I turn the switch off. I have reset the clock 3 times in 2 days so this is more than just a one time occurence. Is this some of the symptons of switch failure and is there an aftermarket switch available for the 2nd Gen? Many thanks to those that respond and help out.

During the time my 02 Midnight was under warranty it would lose the cruise whenever I hit a hard bump. It would have to be turned off then back on and then be reset to speed. Now that it is out of warranty it hardly takes any bump at all without going out. I've looked through all 57 pages of post and did not see anyone mention this paticular problem with their cruise. Has it happened? What should I look ford? It is not a brake or clutch relay. If it was I could just reset the speed. It goes off and the dash lights begin blinking.

You know the little rubber boot for the odometer, well actually, trip meter reset button? Mine is falling apart, which it seems will allow water into the gage assy which seems not good! It's not separately available, according to the parts fish. What have you guys done to fix that, or is water entry not really harmful? Thanks, Jeremy
