  1. Burrrrrppp!!!
  2. Anybody on the east coast !! ------ heads up, ------ check the weather channel !!! you might be in for some rain, and a bit of wind !!!!! ( if you have not noticed the weather report in the last 24 hours )
  3. Anyone have carfax that they would be willing to run a report for me?
  4. The 89 is " Sold " as of yesterday.
  5. I just returned from a ride through the Western US. Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado and Texas. Clocked 6,200+ miles. I rode with a friend on a 2009 Ultra so I was able to make some good comparisons. The trip was fantastic but there were issues with the bike, some of which have been reported here in the past. Make no mistake though. The Venture is a great bike for a long trip like this and I am very happy with it. Altitude ranged from well over 7000 feet to below sea level. If anyone is interested I will post a performance report (including the good, the bad and the ugly with the bike) and a separate trip report when I can wright them up. Oh and I have pictures. Mike
  6. I'm thinking it would be fun to have the same engine as my VR in a different ride. Does anyone have any experience to report with these bikes? I'm thinking of an an older model, maybe even a 89 so they match.
  7. Web Bike Worlds article on customer satisfaction for helmets seems to show 'you get what you pay for'. Having owned HJC, Nolan, Fulmer and Scorpion, I guess I fall into that category. The scorpion is by far the best I have worn. What do you think? The report is linked on the right side or click here.
  8. Looking at 1994 Mustang convertible on ebay with 11,000 miles http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/320768912686 Says clutch replaced? why if only 11,000 miles (maybe used at the dragstrip I think). So see ebay includes 'Free Vehicle History Report' Click on that and it shows the vehicle's title was transferred in 1999 with 39,000 miles on it. yet ebay's own safety check report says no discrepencies found ???????
  9. ‎14,000 acres burning in/around Austin, zero percent contained. Lost 300 homes with 100 more in imminent damger. All fire personell within 200 miles to report. National guard has been activated. I can smell smoke in the air and see the glow in the sky from my front yard. Worried - hell yes!
  10. So I'm sitting here listening to the evening traffic report for the Sacramento area, and so far there's been 4 MC related accidents, one a rider and passenger with ambulances, and half a dozen cage fender benders. It a damn war zone out there.... Really makes you think about when to stay in the barn... 4 is sorta unusual, but I can always plan on hearing about at least one in the AM, and one during the PM rush hour...
  11. NOTE: This first post in the thread has been changed by me for reasons explained below. If you have already read it, read it again - it is very different now. Positive review of the MT66 tires. First, just a little background for those who don't already know about me - I am a complete fan of Avon Venom tyres for the RSV. I have done a LOT of testing various tires, new and worn, and shorter suspension links to raise the rear of the bike; you can find a lot of this info if you search for some of my oldest posts. Now even though I love the Venom tyres, I just can't resist testing other options, especially when there is a cheaper price involved! I put a brand new set of Pirelli MT 66 ROUTE tires on QuickSilver (my 05 RSV) last summer, then proceeded to crash the bike on my way out of town that night when the slick new tires broke loose in a surprise curve! Busted me up enough that I couldn't ride for about four months, and didn't do much good for QuickSilver either. Well, she's back on the road again, and I've already learned a few things about these tires. I think I like them. The load range on the rear tire is less than with an Avon Venom - only 74H. That is the same as the stock tires, so no problem there, but I would prefer to have the higher load rating as a margin of safety. When I first mounted them last summer, I didn't notice anything specific about them - they seemed to handle fine for the one short test ride, and then for the thirty miles or so before I went down. But most of that was on the freeway, so not much of a handling test. At this point, let me note that I had Leveling Links on the 05 then to raise the rear of the bike, and as I have previously written in great detail, raising the rear greatly improves the slow speed handling, making even the horrible stock Brickstone tires feel reasonable. Well, after the crash, I bought an 07 RSV and switched the leveling links to it while the 05 just sat and waited for me to fix it up. I finally got most of the repairs done and have started riding QuickSilver again (so far WITHOUT the leveling links), and I am happy to report that these Pirelli tires make the bike with stock suspension feel light and agile. Slow speed handling my be as good as the Avons, but I still have more testing to do. I cannot yet report on speed handling on the curvy roads. I have compared the width and profile (shape of the curved surface) with my brother's Dunlop 404s, and the front tire is almost identical. MUCH narrower and more curved than a Brickstone in the same stock size of 150/80-16. I'll report on the comparison with the Avon Venom soon. I'll also be covering a couple of thousand miles on them in the next week or so, so I'll be able to give y'all a full report on them soon. In the mean time, the prices look good compared to the Avon Venoms, and they seem seem pretty good, so if you have to order tires before I can complete the testing, you might want to consider the Pirellis if you are tight on money.. 12. So after reading what seems like HUNDREDS of reviews of both wired and wireless comm systems, and trying several out at dealers and bike shows, I have ordered a Starcom1 Advanced unit with two headset kits from ShangoRider.com. Supposed to be here later this week, so I will put it on the RTSD next week (and take some photos) and report back once I have it all hooked up. This way, the wife and I can finally make fun of people in traffic without having to yell so loud that they might hear us.
  13. This will drive you crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep at it 'cause it is possible. This is one way to keep your mind sharp! It's a little 'test' that is (supposedly) part of a second grade Computer class in China . Some figure it out right away. Others report having to work on it for a week (or more) to solve it. Have fun and don't forget to forward to your kids & grandchildren. Frog Leap Test
  14. Reading the drudge Report this morning and they had an article about the new $100 Franklin. Wonder how long it will take the bad guys to conterfit this one??
  15. About a month ago I went stupid, and didn't lock the Suburban parked out in the front of the house. Someone decided to releave me of my GPS, mount, and power cord. The GPS was my original, not worth reporting due to value, so I just wrote it off. I bought it off WOOT for $99 new. Last night while cruising Craigs List, lo-and-behold, there it is. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/ele/2049450733.html I still have the original box, serial number, etc., but I'm not quite sure what to do??. Full frontal assault with a pair of 9mm Glocks, or call the authorities. I chose the later. Never did file a theft report, so had to do that online. Without a report, no crime had been committed. Now waiting to be called by a detective. Meanwhile I did send the seller an email from my 'stealth' hotmail account and he replied. I now have his name. The reason I know it's my GPS is that in the pictures it has a strip of while velcro pile right above the screen. I put it there to hold a home made hood I used when I rode the '83 to Ft Collins in '07. The chance of two of them having that are pretty rare. Like chicken lips. I was told to call Friday morning if I hadn't heard from a Detective by then. I don't think the guy is going to sell it very soon as his asking price is on the high side, and GPS's are all over the place on CL. http://www.cast-aways.com/CONDORPICS/Sam-Side.jpg
  16. Well, after getting the bike back from the shop I decided to crack open the fairing to double check for anything loose and amiss.. and happy to report all is good.. buddy did a decent job (as far as I can see.. but they know I will be back in a huff should something be amiss).. I took the time to install a hidden antenna.. I had already tried the small box amplified powered antenna and yeah, it seemed to work OK.. but nothing to scream home about to be honest.. I wrangled the antenna cable to pop out wear I could reach in and switch cables when away from home and couldn't really tell any difference to be honest.. However, it DOES work and rather reasonably well for the price.. usually available online for 20 to 30 bucks.. But this time I installed a different one that a friend pointed me to, and I do have to report "wow" again. This one picks up MUCH better than the OEM antenna and better than the Firestik does. Wow, and it's unpowered.. glue it to the inside of the fairing and voila, plug and play.. I have to say I'm quite impressed with the signal it picks up.. I have to do some testing to see if the bulk of the bike blocks a lot of signal or not.. I seldom ever use the CB on this bike, and feel the antennas, be it the OEM or the Firestiks, impart some vibration to the bike in heavy winds (which we get a lot around here).. So once the rains stop I'll be able to take it on a run and see how it handles with the antennas off the bike.. The bike looks like it's missing something aesthetic without the antennas present.. But meh.. "tis better to feel than to look good".. Cheers
  17. Left home on 1 Sept. Got home today, 18 Sept. 4200+ miles. Great time, no mishaps. Full report with pictures tomorrow... I'm tired. As promised... see below.
  18. Well folks, I'll be out of touch for at least a few hours. I have the eye surgery at 11:30 tomorrow. I have no idea how long it is supposed to take but I'll probably be home very late tomorrow night. The worse part is that I can't have anything to eat or drink after midnight tonight. No coffee tomorrow morning.....that is NOT a good thing. Anyway, I'll be back with a full report whenever I can. It may be Thursday though. Not sure how I will feel when I get home tomorrow night but I'm thinking probably not very good.
  19. A friend of mine a former Venture Rider Leo Cozzarin went on a road trip. He planned on a three week trip to South Dakota, Yellowstone, Colorado and where ever else he wanted to go. Eight days into his trip, it was cut short by an accident. Thankfully he was in a construction zone and was stopped in traffic. He was there for a while so he got off the bike and was texting his wife, when the accident occured. Glad he is okay. Pictures he sent me are posted below. Brad Three injured in U.S. 191 crash A woman from Switzerland and two others riding in her vehicle were injured July 14 after she apparently fell asleep at the wheel, crashing into a motorcycle rider and a semi-tractor trailer, according to a report from the Utah Highway Patrol. The women, 27, was traveling north on U.S. 191 at mile 146 at about 11 a.m. when the crash occurred in a construction zone where traffic was restricted to one lane of travel at a time, according to the report. The motorcycle and the semi were stopped and waiting to be guided through the construction area when the crash occurred, UHP officials said. The motorcycle rider and semi driver escaped injury. The woman and two other occupants of the Jeep were transported by ambulance to Allen Memorial Hospital. The road was closed to intermittent traffic for about 1.5 hours, according to the report. 20. I got a great report from the doctor today. He is an orthopedic doctor who specializes with hands. He said all parts of my arms/elbows/wrists/shoulder are well on their way to recovery. My hand is numb, but that is a natural part of the recovery. Now comes some intense physical therapy which I am ready for. Praise Jesus for a great report. Thanks to all my fellow Ventureriders for their continued thoughts and prayers. I am on my way back!!!!!!!:dancefool::dancefool: Ben

    Tire age

I know this subject has been discussed here before but this link was making the rounds at work so I thought I would share. Make sure and check out the end of the report so you know how to check the age of the tires you are buying. David http://abcnews.go.Com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897
  23. We are headed out in the cage on the 19th to Cloudcroft, NM. We have rented a lodge called Bear Ridge that really looks nice. Hope to enjoy some snow and mostly some time to relax. We are planning to check out the White Sands and some other attractions in the area. Can anyone in the area suggest anything we don't want to miss and maybe give us a snow report? From everything I have been able to check out it seems like the roads stay in pretty good shape but a first hand report would be nice. Thanks, Mavrick
