When is a good time for the fuel pump to fail? Answer 1: Never Answer 2: While at the dealership with warranty in force, pump on the parts shelf, and a waiting mechanic. Answer 3: While idling in the garage before heading out for a ride. I'll take answer number 3. I was just going to take a nice little ride past Devil's tower. Checked tire pressures, cleaned windshield, started the bike and let her idle while I called the wife, (she was in town with the grand-kids), when I heard the idle RPM fall off substantially and then the engine died. Ended the phone call and went to see what was wrong with our ever reliable RSV. The bike would just barely start with full choke...hmmm, not good. Further troubleshooting revealed an intermittent fuel pump. Thanks to this website and the many helpful and knowledgeable folks here, my wife, (remember she was in town with the grand-kids), is now on her way home with a Mr Gasket #42S fuel pump and fittings. So, God willing, we'll have a new fuel pump on the RSV later tonight! I'd like to say a special thanks to Ponch for his 9/2/09 post with photos of the Mr Gasket fuel pump and fittings. Your photos made it very easy to explain to my wife and auto-parts guy exactly what was needed. I disassembled the electrical side of the RSV fuel pump. These things use plunger activated contacts to energize the two solenoid coils that move the plunger, (armature), that pumps the fuel. The contacts on my pump are shot and no amount of cleaning has made the pump reliable. After examining the stock fuel pump, I would say that these things ought to be replaced at 35,000 to 40,000 miles to ensure reliable operation. Our bike has 43,920 miles. Chalk up another save to Ventureider.com!

I've decided that I need to make this bike reliable an ddrive it until it burns to the ground. I love my bike and I believe I can make it 100% reliable again. That said, I dont have the time or space to tackle a 2nd gear fix. the yamaha shops locally will do it for $4200.00 plus parts:sick:. I can buy a 86+ for that with low miles! Does anyone know of someone in Michigan that can fix the 2nd gear for a reasonable amount of money and can be trusted?

I need a new hosting service for my family Website since AT&T dropped it's service in August. I have looked at a few but I am not thrilled by any so far. Can anyone recommend one that is reliable and inexpensive? I just need enough for family tree's, photos and if I want to make a special page for something.

Well troops, I've 'bout got the Venture the way I want it now, BUT I want/need one more thing-a good, dead solid, reliable burglar alarm for the bike. For right now it lives in the garage, which has an alarm, and that, coupled with a 1911 Colt gives all the security I need:innocent:, but I really want to take it on some long trips this coming year and leaving my baby sitting outside at a hotel scares the crap outta me ...sooo, who makes the best/most reliable MC alarm? Your experiences and ideas are GREATLY appreciated!

Hopefully there will be a new member to join soon. I just sold my 88:crying: (without coffin trailer) Told the fella about this site and he promised to join up. Says he just sold his HD and was looking for something cheaper and reliable. Wonder what he meant by that? :whistling:Now, what am I gonna do? Paint trailer to match GW; look for another gen 1; sell trailer; to much of a decision to make now.

Seriously considering getting an iPhone for Krome Rose and myself. I have been researching them along with the LG Vu, LG Shine, and LG Insite. Apple has so many more applications for the iPhone and the LG's run on a Windows platform. From the reviews I have read on LG's they don't seem very reliable. Are the iPhones a good reliable piece of equipment? Are they easy to use, or is there a steep learning curve? Another question I have is about the iPhone Maps program. Does that come standard on the iPhone and does it cost extra over the required data package? Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I have a 89VR1300. I've replaced the stator 3 times in 6 months. all 3 times I've found it fried. This last time it lasted for about 6 hr's. Does anyone have any idea what would keep causing these to burn out? I'm purchasing them from Rick's Motorsports Electric. I can't see getting 3 bad one's in a row from them. Their parts have always been reliable. Is there something else on the bike that could be causing this issue? Please help I'm baffeled at this point.
