  1. Finally got around to installing my Memphis Shades Batwing. I ordered a generic one off of EBAY for a 9" headlight, bought the quick release brackets from Wayne, and made a custom bracket to attach the batwing to the quick release bracket. Took it for a quick ride and I like it.
  2. i was talking to a guy who had a venture and we were shooting the sh!t about pipes etc. he mentioned something about a saddlebag lid stuck closed??? he said a strap from a peice of luggage got looped around the locking mechanism and could not be opened IN ANYWAY. They cut through the side of the saddlebag to release it or something?? i guess anything could happen once, and i do not know what other methods they tried, but this sounded very bizarre to me and now i am paranoid. anyone ever heard of this??
  3. The link below to Web Bike worl says that Michelin has announced effective today that the new CommanderIIs have been released. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-news/2012/michelin-commander-tires.htm Lets hope they are as good as the originals and as good as the press release says they are.
  4. I bought a HJC Sy-Max II about a year ago and have been happy with it. BUT......the other day the release button for the flip up chin acted weird and took a few trys to get it to release. Today it would not release at all. Dang! I thought at one time someone had mentioned a problem similar to this with the Sy-Max but I can't find anything on a search. Any thoughts? I'm checking the HJC site for a fix or where to send it in. Mike
  5. This will go on my MP3 player and get lots of listens while I'm on the road. the first new Gillian Welch release in 7 years The album is online at NPR http://www.npr.org/2011/06/26/137346722/first-listen-gillian-welch-the-harrow-and-the-harvest
  6. I have a great Idea but cant find the fasteners I need to carry through my project. I want to have wquick release botls for my saddlebags. Any ideas?
  7. 2005 Escape I folded down the back seat on the escape to load something up...then when I went to lift the seat, the middle seatbelt won't "un ratchet" to allow the seat to lift up! I can get it ( the seat) to move about 6" and that's about it. (I had to be very careful how I worded this post to avoid Viagara ads!) I've tried feeding the belt back into the slot..but it won't release tension. I can't pull it out at all. Any suggestions on how to release the tension on a seat belt? The retractor is near the top of the backrest in the middle back seat and is not very accessable when the seat is folded down.
  8. Looking for an earlier grab and firmer grip on take off. I cannot get used to my clutch engageing at neary full release. To completly dis-ingage I only need to pull about 1" on release lever. So I am looking for anything that will make it engage "earlier" and grip sooner. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518
  9. So I got the CMU loose but I'm having difficulty getting the plugs out of the back to release it completely. They don't seem to want to budge. Is there some trick to unplugging them?
  10. seems like choke does not fully release...idles high and backfires...similar trouble or cure?
  11. Thank you so much re the side stand.. Its a smoooth release now,
  12. We purchased a visor for the front headlamp on our 2005 Midnight Venture but I don't quite see how the assembly comes out of the fairing. I don't have a service manual yet and don't want to break anything. The passing lamp visors installed without problems but I can't get the headlamp to release and there must be a retaining fastener on the backside. I did remove the allen head bolt under the lamp and nothing is loose. Thanks, Rob
  13. Does anybody have the stock quick release windshield that would fit a 2006 tour deluxe? I bought mine used and it was missing. Thanks, Brian
  14. I bought a quick release for my helmet. This is the one I bought: http://www.ironhorsehelmets.com/quickrelease.htm Okay, so how the %^#* does the black end attach to the loop with the two D hooks?
  15. Sometimes (but not aways) I have a hard time getting the gas cap off my 99 RSV. I have to turn the key and then try to grip the cap with the other hand while turning the key to get it to release. The bib around the opening seems to keep the cap from going down all the way, but not sure. Any ideas would be helpful.
  16. When I am accelerating from a complete stop my bike hesitates when I release the clutch. The only way I can prevent this is to rev the engine a bit before I release the clutch. I have had the carbs synched by two different dealers with the same end result. One dealer has suggested that the carbs are dirty and they will gladly pull and clean them for $340. I told him that I can't believe a 3 year old bike with only 7500 miles needs the carbs cleaned. Scott 06 RSTD
  17. Puchased the Harbor Freight Motorcycle lift, rated at 1500#, today and tried it out with the Carbon One adapter. The url for the lift= http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=2792 I had to pay $75 for the lift but it is worth it. The design is sturdy and the two step release to lower the bike works great - kinda odd because you have to press all the way down on the release lever to get it to lower slowly - normally you would think it would go faster all the way down - or maybe it is just me. Of course the adaptor worked just like everyone has stated before - perfect. The combination allows the task to be a solo adventure with no worries - just go slowly when lifting and allow the bike to stabilize before raising off the floor. I'm a satisfied customer. Jinksy

    quick release backrest

Good evening, I'm sure this question has been asked before but, does anyone know where I could get a quick release passenger backrest for my 05 RSTD. I have tried most places I could think of other than the dealer(saving that for last). If anyone knows or where or has one for sale please let me know. Thanks Reno
  19. The one on the bars not the slave cylinder. I had a extra in my parts and took it out to put on my 85. It only had 2 wires in the wiring harness. When I started to pull the one from the 85 it had 4 wires. So back to plan one. I replaced the plunger and bushing but it still does not return out all the way when you release it after pulling into bar. I did bleed it out. Do I need to take the plunger out and clean in there or what? The master itself is working good just not returning as far as it should. It lacks quite a bit coming out as far as it should. A inchor little better. After you release it you can pull it out that much further.
  20. I had a unique opportunity yesterday morning. I took my 06 RSTD to work and upon my arrival I removed my riding boots and mesh jacket and stuffed them into the left (port) side saddlebag. I also had a sweatshirt in there which I laid on top of my jacket. I closed the lid then realized I left my pager in my jacket pocket so I pushed the lock / button to open the lid again. No luck. The button would not allow me to depress it. I checked the lock with my key to make sure the lock was okay and the key turned freely but there was no way it was going to allow me to depress it and release the lid latches inside. One of my employees was nearby so the two of us pushed and pulled on the lid and the lock / release button to try and get it aligned better in case something was jammed. Still no luck and the button still wouldn't budge. I pryed off the plastic trim plate that surrounds the lock cylinder but that didn't give me access to anything. I had visions of getting the sawzall out of my employees truck and cutting the lid off. As one last attempt before resorting to such drastic measures, I got my assistant to pull up on the rear corner of the lid as hard as he could without breaking it to allow me to get a couple of fingers inside. I managed to grasp the edge of my sweatshirt and pull it out through the crack. The button then worked and the lid was open. We took everything out and tried shutting the lid again and all worked fine, but when I tried locking the lock I had a dickens of a time to get the lock to unlock. Last night I dismantled the whole works and found that when we pushed the lock button down so hard we managed to bend the actuating arm that acts to lock the bag as well as actuating a paddle plate, which in turn pulls on a long rod that then actuates the latches. What a complex assembly for such a simple task! All is straight and true and working properly now, but I would advise all RSTD and second gen riders to be very careful about what they put in those bags and make sure that nothing gets too close to those lid release levers. I also wonder if any of you have run into this problem on your bike before?
  21. I just ordered a set of the saddle bag quick release Bolts. Man that was fast delivery, and they came by the U.S. postal service. They only took 3 or 4 days from time of order to delivery. Exellent service. I'm not sure who on here is selling them and when i went back they were all gone but the sellers name on E-bay was hilliss. I did a google search for the saddle bag quick release.
  22. If any of you guys have an old busted up windshield for an RSTD - I need just the quick release mounts. I want to install my fairing for quick release and this would be a great place to start. I will still have some cutting and welding to do - but this would save me a lot of work. NO LONGER NEEDED Thanks, Shep I will also post this in the Classifieds
  23. Anyone remember where that thread was that gives you the part numbers of the bolts and knobs to order from McMaster Carr to fix up quick release for the side bags? Thanks
  24. Right rear saddlebag on the 99 is broke. You can unlock it and push down on button but no tension on latch. It's not working the release. I can't unbolt it until after it's open. So how can I get it to release? I have a shop hammer close by but not that desperate yet.
  25. hi all i am going to help james (jburell) to rebuild his clutch release cylinder. i have a question about the removal of it. looking at the manual i have to remove the shift rod, the stator cover, left floorboard, left exhaust and middle gear case cover. can't i just pull the middle gear case cover only to be able to access the two bolts to remove the clutch release cylinder? looks like there would be enought room to unbolt it and drop the cylinder down and out the bottom. seames to me that this one cover would be the easiest and fastest way to go. any ideas or suggestions. thanks in advance & best reguards don c.
