I know that there are other threads for adding lights. I will be using what I feel are the best of the ideas that I have found on this site and others. This is going onto my 88 Venture, (not a Royal) you may need to modify this procedure for your scoot. This project may last all winter as I acquire parts and install them. I will post pics but some buffoon left my camera on my desk at work. The first project is to illuminate the reflector that is on the trunk. I plan to make it a combination of running stop and turn lights. Step one is to figure out how to get the reflector off the trunk. It is mounted with 3 small screws from the inside of the trunk. Sounds easy huh, NOT!!! There is also a piece of double sided tape at each screw plus one more pirce at each outer tip. They used some REALLY strong tape. After a bunch of head scratching and a few failed methods what finally worked was to slide a sheet of .008 thick sheet steel up from the bottom and use the sharp corners to cut through the tape. This worked great and got it off with no damage to anything. Next getting the reflector off of the back. More head scratching to do.

This is the 2 1/2 inch reflector that runs from side to side across the back of the Trunk Box. I CAREFULLY tried to lift the reflector off of the black plastic molding that it fits into. BUT....I guess I wasn't careful enough. I cracked it in one spot and broke a corner off it as well. I glued it back together but it still looks like....well.....like it has been broken and glued back together!!!!!! Does anyone have the reflector that would fit an 88 trunk box...or even a later one that has the lights instead of just the reflector? PLEASE? I've invested over $100 in LED's for the trunk (and other spots)...and I don't want it to end up looking like crap.

When I bought my 2007 RSV (2nd owner) it had the saddlebag guard rails installed. I think the PO had them installed by his dealer. There is no red side reflector on the guard rails, but all of the pics I see of RSV's without the guard rails show a reflector on the chrome bar in front of the saddle bag. This bar is obviously removed to install the guard rails. I wonder why Yamaha thought it was necessary to have a reflector on the original factory machine, but not on their accessory guard rails? Has anyone added a reflector(s) to the guard rail(s), and if so, what/where/how? Just seems like it should be there (for legal requirements?).

I am in need of the lower center reflector for our 1986 Royale. Unfortunately momma learned how to stop our riding lawnmower by using the rear of the bike! Could have been worse. The trailer hitch protected protected everything but the reflector. And my radial arm saw supported the bike so it didn't drop to the floor. Small left fairing scratch with no cracks or damage. Just the reflector. Momma feels worse than I do about the damage. Would love to get the bike fixed quickly and make her feel better. JB

I need to remove the Reflector with the word Yamaha in it. It is located between the two side bags at the rear/bottom. Can someone provide some general steps of instructions so I do not dismantle things that are not needed. I tend to do that alot, remove things that are not needed.

I'm trying to install a brake speedbleeder on the rear of my 89 VR. I've removed the 2 side bolts, the 2 bottom bolts. the 3 reflector nuts and the 3 bottom screws for the lower chrome piece. The Bag is loose but can't seem to wiggle it out. The center reflector screw is giving me some challenges. What is there left for me to do? Also the bottom, front there is a metal bracket revitted to the floor can someone tell me what that is for?

There was a thread a while back where someone peeled open the reflector on the trunk of a 1st gen and installed strips of LEDs to act as running brake and turn signals. I have been doing searches for 2 days and can not find it. I really do not like having just one light on the back of the bike at night. I have about 6 feet of the red LED strips left over from a different non bike project that I can now use for this project. I will be creating a progress thread of the illumination of my Venture with links to products used and any special procedures or techniques that I had to use. I will be skirting the edges of the law and adding as much light as I can figure out how to, with out getting in legal trouble. A lot of what I intend to do is scattered about on VR.org and will end up getting compiled here, I also have a few new ideas . The steps will be completed in order of importance with safety first, functionality second and cosmetics last.

I hope someone out there can tell me this. Will the trunk reflector from an 86 up 1st Gen fit an 85 trunk? They LOOK the same. Wayne

Sons bike hit my rear 2nd gen RSTD and broke the red reflector. Anybody have one for sale? Hate to even think what yamaha would charge. Thanks. God Bless and be safe. mike

Does anybody know the part # for the trunk lite that replaces the reflector on the back of the trunk????Big bike parts had them, but since they changed their website, they can't seem to locate them without a part #.. I know Show Chrome doesn't make them anymore,so I think this was the only place that had them.. Thanks

I had been looking at several LED lights to replace the stock reflector between the license plate and tail light. Most of what I found was in the area of $25 and $40. I thought that was a bit much. Well, yesterday, I was at Bass Pro Shops and found what I was looking for in the area of the boat trailer supply area. It is an LED clearance/marker light about 1/2 inch shorter than the reflector. I had to elongate the holes in the reflector mounting bracket to get it installed but it took about 10 minutes total to do the whole thing. I wired it into the brake light so it only comes on when the brake is activated. The best part was it only cost $9.99!!

My dad got some stuff for his trike through them, said he ordered it on line, but the website has been "inactive " for a couple of months. They don't have a heck of a lot for the first gen venture, but I saw in the catalog lights to replace the reflector on the trunk. The dealer search on the site only lists 3 for NY and non of them ar very close to me.

I had a set of the OEM red reflectors that used to go on the rear crash bars until the bag rails were installed. Not wanting to waste them PLUS wanting a bit more light in the back (doesn't everyone?) I decided to remove the reflector part from the base (it is only double-sided taped on). Couple of plastic screws (made for plastic not made OUT of plastic! ) held them together. A little wiring from the Blue wire at the brake light connector by the battery and adding a ground finished it right up. I drilled holes in the back of the OEM reflector backing plate (not the part that hold the reflector) so that I could run the wires right underneath the bags and up under the seat. Haven't tried it at night yet but they are certainly visible in the day! 2 lights (incandescent) 'bout 8' of 16ga wiring (4' of black, 4' of red) 1 Scotchlock A bit of electrical tape to "harness" the wires together. Probably didn't spend but $10. Darn cheap and effective.
