I will be changing oil before I leave for Las Vegas from Seattle. What wt oil would be recommended for that area in Late June. I'm Guessing 20/40 or 20/50 wt?

I just changed the front tire on my 2000 RSV. It was not completely worn out, but it had a slight cupping if you looked closely. When in a steady state low speed turn, I got a little shake/wobble at the handlebars. I researched tire options on this site and decided to go with the MT90B16 "not recommended by Yamaha" option. I purchased the Dunlop Elite 3 in that size. Wow, freakin' wow. Shake is gone (cured by new tire, not necessarily the new size). But the improvement in feel is unfreakin' believable. I currently have a relatively new Dunlop 404 (less than 2K) in the stock size on the rear of the bike. I will put the matching Elite 3 on when it wears out. I know this is nothing new to the guys that have been on this site for a long time. But, if anyone is sitting on the fence about changing to a "not recommended" tire...I'm here to tell you.....JUMP!

I made an appointment for 12,000 mile check because of upcoming cross country trip and possible oil leak around rear hub. The service guy said they recommend a valve adjustment. I thought it was too early but he insisted it was recommended. I thought it wasn't needed until 27,000 miles. Is this dealer trying to rip me off?

If 8 fl oz for a M/C is recommended for the 1st time, then would 32 fl oz for a 20 gal tank be recommended for a truck or is that too much for a 1st time. The truck runs fine its just that it is a 1993 and thought a clean up probably be good for it.

I'm considering getting passing lights for my '09 RSV and not sure what you get when you order them. I see that the passing lights requires mounts as well. If someone can clarify.... Passing lamps -STR-4XY35-10-00 => are these JUST the lights? Passing lamp mounts - STR-3XY35-40-00 => is this the bar that the lights and turn signals attach to? Where do I get the recommended "spacer" from? Not sure I want the OEM lights if there is a better looking and more functional option. Is the Rivco 4" 55/60w a good choice? www.cruisercustomizing.com/detail.cfm?model_id=42&Category_ID=49&manufacturer_ID=11&product_ID=36682&related=short Also... for the switch, has anyone used the Show Chrome accessory block? http://www.canadamotorcycleaccessories.com/Dual_Accessory_Switch_Block_1_inch_Cruiser_Bars_P24870.php

I read that one does not need to worry about valve adjustment on the 1300 venture engine until around 100,000 miles. My bike has about 18,000 miles on it, 2008 but I would like to know just went is the recommended time to go to that length in getting into the valves and shim replacement. Just a ballpark figure so as I know about when to perform the valve job. Thanks, DanC:dancefool:

I'm not sure I'm placing this in the right forum, but I rec'd my Dunlop Elite 3's last week and got them mounted and balanced. I can't believe the difference! The bike handles so much crisper. I can especially notice that at low speeds. The tires are quiet, smooth, & great for not tracking grooves. The bike even feels lighter. I am very satisfied. Thanks to the members who recommended them! I purchased them through Southwest Moto Tires (who is recommended on here) and rec'd them the NEXT day! S/H is free when you purchase 2 tires.

I got a PM asking me where the nearest campgrounds are to my house. Many camp here and anybody who wishes to do so is more than welcome. There is also space here for a few travel trailers and we have always had plenty of room so far. There are no hookups though so if you need a place with hookups, here are a couple of suggestions. This one was recommended by another member but I've not been by there yet. http://schaunacrescampground.com/ Also just a few miles down Hwy. 58 from us is Findley State Park. http://www.findleystatepark.org/

I have a dumb question here. If it has been answered many times before, my apologies. I've spent a good amount of time searching and did not find a direct answer to my question. I've done wheel bearings on cars and trucks numerous times, but never on a bike. I don't really know a whole lot about them other than to take them out, spin them to check for flat spots, smooth rolling, etc. then grease the crap out of them and then put them back in. I am looking to replace the front bearings on my 01 RSV (I have ~40k miles on it. got the bike at ~28k. Full records of dealer recommended services within 50 miles of the recommended service point), found them on partshark.com for $10.97/piece. My questions are: 1) Is that a reasonable price, or would hitting an autoparts store for a generic replacement (if possible) be a better way to go. 2) Is it just a single wide 'bearing' or are there two (one for each side) -- (I know, probably a dumb question, but I figured it was better to ask then order the wrong number of them) -- DO'H, Found the answer to this on the next fiche I checked. 2, duh. 3) Do I need to grease them before I put them on? Can the old ones simply be re-greased and reinstalled? (I figured for 20 bucks for a set, I might as well just replace them even if they can be greased ) 4) Do I need new oil seals (I presume 2 of them; ie. one for each side)? 5) Any other parts that will need to get the job done? Like I said, I know, some dumb questions - but I much rather ask and then get it done right the first time than what the other options could lead to. Thanks a lot folks! Oh yea, for what it is worth, most of my riding is in what would typically be considered 'extremely dusty conditions'. Thank you very much west Texas... EDIT: I vaguely recall some folks either ordering bearings (possibly OEM from a dealer) and getting the wrong ones. Was that an issue with the dealer goofing up, or is it an incorrect part number on the fiche? -- This is also why I wanted to ask this question...

My "new to me" 87 VR is acting up with a fast idle around 2500 rpm when warmed up. I've searched this forum and have found it is not that unusual. The recommended fixes are beyond my comfort level, as I would rather take it to someone who knows, rather than mess it up further myself, at least until I understand what to do. I am in the Benton, IL area about 110 miles SE of St. Louis. Any knowledgeable members or recommended shops/mechanics in this area? Thanks.

Called up my local dealer about slow leak in tire. He says the product they carry is for off road motorcycles only. Recommended using 1/2 can of Fix-A-Flat. I don't think so I heard it is not recommended for motorcycles. Is there anything over the counter locally that is comparable to ride-on? It's $50 to buy a 3 bottle kit on line direct. Do you want it this week add an extra $15 for express shipping.I don't know anything about the Slime product.I'm tempted to order the ride-on but I need it ASAP.

help Progressive springs
funrider posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I am in the proses of putting in new springs. when you put the new progressive springs in, what do you leave out? Below the cap bolt is a cap with a o ring on it, does that get left out? If you put that in, it is already higher than what is recommended without using a spacer at all. Any help will be appreciated.- 15 replies

I'd like to recommend a couple of books; they are- 1) Proficient Motorcycling, David Hough- Bowtie Press An excellent read for both beginner as well as experienced riders, never a dull moment with this book. I could not put it down! Lots of photos and diagrams, very well laid out with thorough explanations. Very highly recommended! Four stars. 2) More Proficient Motorcycling, David Hough- Bowtie Press Not as good as the first, nevertheless a good read, although without reading the first one a lot is lost. Still all-in-all a very good read. Highly recommended. Three and a half stars. For those of us still held captive in winter's clutches, :bighug:a great way to kill a few evenings.

My Battery warning light came on last week. I checked the water level which was fine. I tred the fix using the poor man tips, with the resistor. I tried both recommended resistors with no luck, anybody have any other ideas other than to replace the sensor?

Those of you who have installed your SH: What percentage did you program into it? Would the recommended -5.5% be good enough? Are they all (RSV) off the same amount? Thanks.
