I have questions as to why my 88 venture will not start, it cranks, backfires and pops but not running. This is the same bike that the carbs were just rebuilt, it ran well Saturday but not today, any known fixes.

After the bike being on the lift for about a year she will be coming back to earth in a few days. Just got to add fluid to all the brakes/clutch and bleed, route some electrical accessories, install the tank and seat and it'll be good to go. Should be like a new bike with all the work that went into it. Should get another 10 years out of it. I dont need no stinkin "new" Venture anyways..... Lets see: rebuilt and deburred and polished the lower legs and beer cans. Progressive springs and Amsoil fork oil. Polished the R-1 calipers as well as the front rotors. Also polished the rotor bolts as well as the brake banjo bolts. Polished the lower tree as well. New neck bearings and races. Flanders bar conversion. Chrome switch housings. Polished the brake and clutch masters along with SS brake and clutch lines. Rebuilt rear caliper. Chrome front and rear wheels. Rebuilt said wheels as well with new bearings, seals spacers, dampeners. New saddlebag rails. VMAX rear. Saddleman seat. Assorted chrome accessories. (im still finding stuff that I have ordered while I was under the OXY spell) (no, for you newbies, it was for knee replacement, not a crack hoe addiction) And I did order much stuff..lol Even taught myself to mount the tires. I didnt want the shop to scratch the chrome. Im sure there is more stuff that ill uncover but thats all I can think of right now. I still need to strip and polish some of the old billet covers that the chrome has been fading off. Thats something that I can do as the winter sets in here in Florida. I was hoping that Eck would have invested in a new paint job for his future investment but, ah, well.........

Somebody just gave this to me: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Dynamometer/02.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y191/Ggerg1186/Dynamometer/04.jpg It's an eddy current dynamometer, but I am not sure which manufacturer or how much power it can hold. Based upon the size I think it could handle the power of a certain V4 metric cruiser we all may be familiar with. My father in law picked up for me this morning. I need to get it home from Detroit to IA. It will need rebuilt, but the machines are very simple, just heavy. A set of bearings and some copper wire should get it working again. It will probably take me a while to get it up in running, but I am thinking of setting up a roller and doing some test on Venture mods.

Check out this car combo built by a long time good friend of mine. He has taken hundreds of healys from all over the US and various places in Canada and fully rebuilt them. Not all with a V12 though, this one is his personal car. I believe it is supposed to produce between 80 and 90 HP/cyl http://www.britishv8.org/Other/MartinJansen.htm

Does anyone know where I can buy a complete rebuilt kit worth the money? Do they even make a complete rebuilt kit? By complete I mean one that has everything for the internal instead of having to buy jets and other things seperate. Or does anyone have a set of carbs that are ready to go on for sale? excuse my ignorance on this carb stuff but I gotta learn eventually to do things myself because the shops are just getting higher in price.

Well, my wife and i have decided that we are going to try to have children. As such she has decided that she isn't likely to be interested in riding once she is expecting, and quite honestly, i have a bike this big for 2up riding. if i'm gonna be doing solo, i'd like to have something smaller. So, being as 99.9% of the advice and information i've applied to this bike came from this site, i am looking to you folks for an opinion on worth of my bike. here are some pictures: http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/dreamcatcher001.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/dreamcatcher002.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030962.jpg A little about this bike: The Good: rebuilt the front and rear brake masters brand new SS lines and R1 calipers installed de-linked front and rear brakes, but have all the hardware minus front to rear line still rebuilt front clutch master all new cables recently cleaned carbs brand new battery cleaned a large portion of the electrical connectors new wheel bearings front and rear by the time i decide if i'm going to sell, i'll have rebuilt the forks and replaced the fork seals. May be installing progressives as well. brand new (less than 500 miles) dunlop elite 3's front and back, with metal valve stems Highwaybars and crash guards are all rash free and shiny flushed everything that has fluid in it and then replaced with new. Petcock for radiator upgraded with skydoc's kit recently ajusted valves inspected and re-packed rear splines with moly 60 silverstar H4 lightbulb The Bad: it has a few small scratches on the right hand fairing, and repaired cracks on the right hand Class system pocket not perfect paint, there are small blemishes here and there some small cracks around various screw holes that have been repaired bike currently has 77K miles on it, starts right up in cold weather and i wouldn't hesatate to hop on and ride 5 miles or 5,000 miles. I personally have found the stock seat (which has no cracks or wear!) to be very comfy. personally, even though it's michigan, i am leaning to 2500 dollars or so in value, mostly bumping it up a little because of the recent upgrades like the brakes. thoughts? haven't made my mind completly up, depends on if i think i can get enough money to get something else reasonably. thanks for the view, guys.

All- I'm hoping someone can give me some ideas. I have an 87 Venture and had the Carbs rebuilt. After replacing the fuel filter and checking the gas, we placed the rebuilt carbs in. It started up pretty well, but right away we noticed gas coming through Carb #2 (front left side as your sitting on the bike) and also coming out the top of the carbs in two small orifices. What might be causing this, float perhaps? Also, the four metal air vents at the top of the carbs, do they attach to a hose or something? When I took the carbs off there was nothing attached and there doesn't appear to be anything out of place to re-attach. Appreciate your help. Bill

well, after a ton of work (and i'm sure i'm not done!) i finally got this mk2 first gen all back together (minus the vent louvers in the side covers) http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh131/seuadr/P1030962.jpg She's got new r6 calipers and SS lines with delinked front brakes (thanks earl!) I rebuilt both masters and the rear brake master, all new fluids, flushed the radiator, changed the tires (myself! by hand!) rebuilt the entire right hand side plastics with fiberglass (was mostly in peices when i got it)and a new stebl electromagnetic horns and relay. Changed the oil, ran 2 tanks of gas through it with half a can of seafoam each, new filter etc. New bearings in the front and rear wheels as well. this beauty came to me for 1200 dollars with 77,000 miles on it, and aside from the cracked plastic on the right side is in fantastic condition. I'm told that the windshield is aftermarket, and has additional wings on the sides of it. now to tackle gas mileage.. i've used a little over half a tank and only gone 87 miles .. seems a bit low to me. i suspect part of it is not having gone very far in 9 years, but i also plan on shimming out the needles so it runs a little leaner. inspection of the plugs tell me that it is definitally running rich. still, can't wait to put a few hundred thousand miles on her!

One of my projects this winter was to do a complete rebuild of the brakes - new rotors, rebuilt master cylinders, ss lines, rebuilt calipers (thanks Skydoc!). I know the brake bleeding is a pain but I have managed to get the rear/front left air-free after at least a dozen bleeds! I now have good pedal pressure. The easy one, the front rt however, is driving me crazy - no matter what I do, I cannot get any lever pressure. I rebuilt the master cylinder and even disassembled it twice to make sure I installed the rubber cups with the large diameter going into the bore first. After many brake bleeds, there are no more bubbles but still the lever has zero resistance. I must be missing some thing obvious - any hints out there? Thanks!

Picked up another VR in June and showed up at Earl's (skydoc) Earl helped put her back into service with carb synch, rebuilt front calipers, rebuilt rear caliper, f/r pads, mounted new tires f/r, radiator drain upgrade, and a general going over. Heck he even took it for a ride and had it PA state inspected......... So here are a couple pics I took this evening.. http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0651.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0654.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0652.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0653.jpg http://i177.photobucket.com/albums/w203/davepa/IMG_0650.jpg Regards Dave

Front brake Master Cylinder for a MK1?? There is no guts in it but was honed. I have 3 rebuilt Mk2 masters for myself and this is taking up room! Yours for the asking...

Hi All With the air pressure set as high as possible the front end will still bottom out when going over some bumps. I’m assuming I need new fork springs. Is this correct? The carburetors were supposedly rebuilt, but on the left side there is gas running out of the drain hose. I don’t know much about carbs, any ideas on what would cause this? Thanks Al

I know this should be listed in the for sale section. But I want to get this out there. Long story short. My bike ran out of gas in the Tip O'neil Tunnel here in MA. After a little more than half an hour a state trooper and flat bed came along. Unfortunately the driver of the flat bed did not tie down the bike correctly. After leaving the tunnel and pulling into the state police barracks parking lot (it is close to the tunnel) the bike tipped over. The right side of the fairing, along with associated parts got wrecked. Luckily the bike has crash guards. The damage is mostly cosmetic. I simply don't have the time or money to put into getting the bike back into shape. I did file with the state and they totaled the bike. I got what I paid for the bike. Sadly it will cost more to repair the bike. Also I lack storage space. To to it off I am fixing up my house to sell. I simply got lots going on now. The engine runs strong and has lots of life left in her. I road her back and forth to work most every day. From Attleboro to Cambridge and Waltham. I hate to let her go, or part her out. but right now it's the best thing I can do. I can't find the title, so I am going to fill out the paperwork to get a new one. But if you are looking for parts that would not be a problem. I have posted some of the work I had done. Along with pictures (She don't look quite the same now). Link to pictures - [/url]http://necrotechandbytch.com/~dusk/venture/ Some of the work that has been done. All four carbs were rebuilt. Replaced the linkage too. Complete tuneup. Wires plugs etc. Rebuilt the forks. Replaced gear shifter. New head gaskets. Replaced the exhaust collector. Replaced that star washer and associated parts. New tires. Metzler New stereo and speakers. Added extra lights. And much more. The bike is at my mechanic. You can call him and ask about the bike. He did all the work. Well I guess I really am joining the club. After my ride from Brisbane on arriving home in Perth I noticed a small leak coming from the rear shock. Not knowing what I now know (thanks to all here) my mechanic sent it off to Sydney to be rebuilt. After a long silence I called him up - wots the go bro? Can't be rebuilt! Damn. Anyway I saved my mechanic a long time searching for a replacement after reading "Spears" troubles in Australia replacing his and immediately ordered one from FlatoutMotorcycles. Hopefully it will arrive here next week and my bike will be back on the road in time for Xmas. Summer holidays here.
