Hopefully this posting works! Thought you folks might find this interesting. Edit: cut off sentence from bottom right reads " where you want the full pop with throttle response, but in traffic......."

After this last weekend's ride down to San Jose, then up to Sacramento/Auburn, then back home to Olympia, WA...I am tired of the error factor on my speedo and Odo. I have previously installed the SpeedHealer units on my previous 3 GL-1800's, dialing them in to match my Garmin Zumo 550. Now it is a must that I install a new SpeedHealer on this '06 RSMTD. I am disappointed that Yamaha had to join all the others in putting out a speedo that reads so darn high, compared to what the bike is really doing. If I just putted down the road, doing the speed limit, and falling aslepp like the rest of the sheep in traffic, then it would not be needed as bad. But it is still crazy to be riding along just slightly faster than the flow of the other vehicles, and my speedo reads 80 - 85 mph. I have had such great success with the SpeedHealer on my other bikes, and am hoping that the same device (but specific to the RSTD) will correct the error factor in my otherwise cool looking speedo. If my speedo is reading 85 mph, I want to really be riding at 85 mph...not 75 or even 72 mph. Urgh ! I will get this issue fixed. BTW, those new Flanders handlebars (650-08783) really are nice. Yeah !

One of the great things about this site is that you come across articles you haven't seen for a while or missed before. I happened across these two that are good reads and reminders as the riding season starts. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=48003 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=9893 Thanks to Monty and Carl for these riding reminders. And be safe out there !

Got 83VR non running, lot of work later runs great but tach reads low, and slow to respond to throttle changes. Dash was FULL of ants, disassembled, and flushed ants out with water, then dried with aircompressor. Any way to verify tach signal at rear of dash correct? Volts?, Ohms? Think this signal is pulsing ground/vs 12v behind coil#2 @2xRPM?, May put o-scope on just to see what it reads. Haven't used my scope in long time-hope it still works. Suspect tach gears/springs may have light corrosion needs lube (pull dash again:(), but would like to verify everything else first.

Since installing my gauges, I'm wondering if the readings are ok. While running the passing lamps my volt meter reads about 12.3-12.5 Is that enough output to keep things charged up?
-
O.K. I got the gauge set I bought from Ponch all hooked up now and so far it don't leak. Well after I tightened it down some more. I do have a few questions for those of you that have it. By the way I love the looks. My oil gauge reads almost zero at adle but reads 40psi at 40 mph and 60psi at 60 or higher speeds. the amp gauge reads a little over 12 at idle but will move up to about 14amps at 50 or better mph. Temperature goes up to about 190 or so after about 15 minutes of riding time. Are all of these normal or within range for the VENTURE???...............Ron

Greetings! I'm trying to diagnose my charging system on a 99 RSV. I check the battery off the bike, and it reads 12.9V. I connect it to the bike with ignition of, it reads 12.9V. I turn on the ignition switch without starting the engine, it reads 12.3-12.4V. When I start the engine, it holds at 12.3V. When I take her to 5KRPM it hold at 12.3V which according to the ever knowledgeable service manual (I've learned my lesson about not reading the manual when troubleshooting...) is bad. It's supposed to be at or around 14V at that RPM range. So... I now know from that series of tests that my charging system isn't working. I've tested the resistance on my pickup coil, which reads .4 Ohm on both negative leads. The service manual says that it should be between .279 and .34. My Ohm meter is not that sensitive, and doesn't show me 1000ths; it only goes to 10ths. Is .4 significantly out of spec with the .274 to .34 range? I haven't tested the stator yet because I'm waiting for the gasket to come in so I can put it back together again the same day I take it apart. But given the cost of a new pickup coil (I'm looking at about $120USD from my local parts store) I'd hate to replace it only to find out that .06 Ohms is a nominal delta. Thanks!

I have an older Dell laptop with an SD slot. Like many others, it will not take the new high capacity SD cards. The hardware has a 2GB limit. I also can't read other cards. I have a big multi-card reader on my docking port at home. So, I went hunting. I came up with a Targus brand adapter. It reads the HC cards without any drivers. It is a 32 in 1 reader with a USB cord. Very small - about the size of a large matchbook. Uses a standard mini usb plug like a lot of other items. Targus TGR-CRD25 Wal Mart for $12.95 It also reads the MMC and XD cards (Like in your camera PONCH) JB

I think something is screwy with the membership counter, mine has been reading the same number now for a couple of days, and when I was talking about how many members, others stated that theirs were over the 6000 mark, mine reads 5,976, below is what it reads today. This may be coverd already in another thread but I have not seen it yet. My low water level light is on on my dash. I put a maintenence free Yuasa Battery in my bike when I got it. It has no place for the sensor ( whitch is missing anyway) There is just a wire sticking up in front of the battery in the cross harness.I figure this used to be it. The old battery had a hole for the sensor in the middle cell of the battery so I assume that it reads 6vdc if it reads anything at all. My wrenches in my toolbox are getting pretty cold from non use over the last five years and me ole brain. My brian needs a jump start. My question is how to kill the light on the dash? Thanks....Dave

Are there any left out there somewhere? Marilyn and I received one each from tessac2 (Pete) last and just love em....thanks again Pete! Marilyn lost hers somewhere on the road to Kitchener and I would like to get her another one. It would be a surprise so please dont PM me as that would appear on our email and she reads those....but seldom if never reads anything on our site here. Of course all financial things would be taken care of by me. Thanks

Installed the SpeedoHealer last summer. Speedometer originally read 8.5% high. I now have a GPS and find that the speedometer reads correctly. However, the odometer now reads 5% less than actual. Not a major drawback, but something to keep in mind.

I thought I read this here before, but couldn't find it. After instaling my GPS, I've noticed that the speed is diferent. GPS will read 80 MPH and the bikes speedo is showing 86-88 moh? I know the GPS is acurate asI've had it in my car (certified speedo) and it reads dead on. Bike reads 6-8 mph fast? Is this common?

I think I've read this before, but couldn't find it? After installing my GPS, I've noticed that there is a definate speed difference from what the GPS reads and the speedo reads. I get 80 mph on the gps and the bike shows 86-88 on the speedo. I know for a fact the GPS is accurate, as I've had in my car (Certified police) and it reads right on? But on the bike, bike shows about 6-8 mph faster than actual speed? Is this common?
