ok. new user here. i recently bought an 83xvz12. the taillights were working, but now they dont. however, the brake lights do! ive checked and replaced the bulbs, and the fuse. still nothing. i checked with a multimeter to the sockets and i do get readings. im confused. i read in here, there are a bunch of relays, but mine are no longer in the holder, and are just lying around in there. all of them are marked differently. help!

I want to check the valve clearances on my 96 Royal Star. The manual states they should be checked cold (less than 95 degrees) at room temperature. I only have an old wood stove in my shop and although I can get the inside temperature high enough to make it comfortable for working, I don't think it would be considered room temperature. What do you think would be the minimum temperature to be sure I get accurate clearance readings? I would like to get the valves adjusted and reassemble the bike but would it be better for me to wait till Spring when the outside temterature gets higher? I don't want to do all this work and get inaccurate readings because the engine is too cold. Thanks Doug

We came back from our trip to St. Charles MO. and all seemed well. Bike was getting 37mpg hwy. Went over 2,000mi hit some rain at times but all seemed OK, Let the bike sit for a few days in the garage and went out to ride to town noticed that it had no power and at one point it felt like it was going to die but went ahead and rode it to town. Went by the shop and picked up my Temp.gun and did some readings on the exhaust side and here are my readings. EXHAUST READINGS #1 410'F #2 135'F #3 89'F #4 130'F By the readings I'm running on one good cylinder? I bought some more plugs and changed them out, all four plugs were black with carbon but not wet looking. Even after new plugs installed still have same reading on exhaust. I would appreciate any help you guys can give me as where to go for further diagnostic.? Carbs - wiring - ? Buddy

How many miles can you guys go an a tank (1200cc engine)? I calculate that I should be able to go between 200 & 220 miles, depending on mileage (38mpg-42mpg). My gas gauge reads empty between 115-130 miles on the trip odometer when I reset it with each fill up. Is this normal, according to how your trip odometers read? Thanks, Doug

:sick:Hey, I need some professional advice here. I have a 99 RSV with 98K on the clock. The bike is running smooth and strong, but since it had been over a year since I had checked the carb balance I thought now would be a good time. After warming up the bike, I hooked up the gages and to my suprise I got some really strange readings. Both of the left hand cylinders were reading close to 12 inches of vacume which I would expect to be low. The two right hand cylinder readings were swinging so wildly they were totally unreadable. Thinking there may be something wrong with my gages (?two of them?) I swaped them around with the same results. I slowly increased the RPM and at what I judge to be around 1300-1500 RPMs the right hand gages suddenly stabalized and read within a couple inches of the left side (12 inches). Returned to idle and the gages started swinging again. Now if this were my car, I would say that only 12 inches of vacume was late ignition timing or a vacume leak. With electronic timing and multiple carbs probably not. The wildly swinging gages would indicate a burnt valve, but a valve that bad should be detectable in the way the bike runs. And two valves on the same side at the same time is a bit of a stretch. Can anyone point me to a solution? What vacume readings do you experience.

Just curious what kind of Hg readings people get with the carbtune on 1st Gen bikes. I rebuilt my carbs new all new diaphrams all jets cleaned out (Had a idle problem had to keep bike on full choke to idle the tiny purge jets were clogged) I can idle with no choke now but I if I give it throttle it dies. Not very high readings on the carbtune almost non-existant except for #2 any ideas? Gonna try colortune first I guess.
