Has anyone ever lifted a first gen on to a work table with an engine hoist? I have a sturdy table and hoist. Purchasing a lift table is out of reach financially but I like the table height for winter service. Any list wisdom on this?

Dealer just completed warranty on the 07 RSV replacing the cylinder head gaskets front and rear. I have found what appears to be a vacumm hose disconnected beneath the fuel tank. I can't tell where the rear connects, however the forward end of tube is long enough to reach the air cleaners and perhaps more. Idle is not smoothe and there is a vibration getting up to higher rpm's. Once you reach mid to high rpm's it smoothes out. Mechanic stated it is a vent tube and stuffed it back under the tank. The end of the hose physically is expanded and looks to have had a clamp on it originally He did a carb sync and it seems only slightly better. Next step is to remove the tank myself and determine where the hose originates on the connected end and go from there. I don't see specifics on the vent tubes in the service manual, however I may be missing something. Note: The checked the valve adjustment at this time as well, 30K, and stated all were within spec. It was running great before their having worked on it. Appreciate any suggestions/guidance here.

Just looking for some options. I think I read on here somewhere that the stock handlebars from a RoadGlide will fit an RSV and provide better reach for stubby arms, can anybody confirm this? How about Road King bars? Both are 1" diameter.

You may have heard that I got my bike home last Wednesday following three months of repairs, and that there was a loud backfiring. The dealer had been unable to determine the source, but 5 minutes with Squidley and we had a prime suspect: the dealer hadn't hooked up a vacuum tube to the AIS (I presume). Pic: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3303/5699095405_9f3c32f19e.jpg This particular tube goes to the front, behind the right front exhaust header. We could see the lonely nipple with a mirror. We just couldn't reach it. Squidley says he'll be available to take off the exhaust so that it can be hooked up, hopefully solving the very loud backfire. But isn't this something I could do myself? First, is there an easier way to connect it? Force my daughter into anorexia so that she can reach in, perhaps? Loosen something or other, move it out of the way, tighten back up? I have an RSTD, so the front is somewhat more open than an RSV (I am posting in the RSV forum because it's seen more and almost as applicable). Second, if I do remove the exhaust headers, do I have remove both, or just the front? What all do I have to remove to get to that header bolt? Thirdly, thanks to those of you who will demand that I take the bike back to the dealer to have them fix their shoddy workmanship, but no. I've already been without her for three months, and I can't waste another month having them fix this. Dave

I'm trying to take out my headlight bulb to replace it but I can't figure how to reach it. I've read the manual, read some of the posts and am still confused. Do you reach it from the front side or the back side? The front headlight assembly has one screw at the bottom. If you remove this does it allow you to slide out the headlight assembly and access to the bulb or do you try to reach in from the back amidst the maize of wires and try to access it from there? Thank you for your help in advance. Chris

OK gents, I need to tow my 1st gen VR in a trailer. My sport bike handlebar harness won't reach across the buck-horn bars. What is the recommended method for tie-down?

Went to start the bike after more than a month off and the right overflow tube at the air filter box is pouring out gas ! I guess there must be a stuck float or needle in the right bank. Took the tank off and glanced at how to reach it and see no easy way without actually pulling the carbs! Sure would like to avoid that..... Does any one have any easier ideas?

Quick question, I used to ride a BMW RT1200P and was spoiled by the adjustable brake/clutch levers. Im 6'00 and can reach the brake lever on my 04 BUT...does anyone know of a lever that reduces the reach a little bit. I've looked through the threads and only saw new levers mentioned based on appearance (chrome or flat blade). Thanks for any help. Clint:Venture:

You gotta have long arms to reach all the way from Texas to Georgia, but you did it. Thanks for all your help. I was going to take it out on the road today, but got called into work before I could hitch it up.

I just finished synching the carbs on my '09 RSTD. It only has 400 or so miles on it. I wanted to do it to learn as well as the fact that people on the board stated that it can be off from the factory. I used the Carbtune to do it. Unfortunately I bought it from a place in California before I noticed some posts about buying it from the manufacturer to take advantage of the exchange rate. Just goes to show what a wealth of knowledge the board is and maybe post a question before making a purchase. In any case I want to thank Freebird for posting the instructions and pics on how to do this. For those that are reticent about doing something like this don't be it is so simple it is not even funny. A pox and shake of the fist to the dealers that charge $85 for this. If the Stealers were smart they would give away something like this to get you into the store to buy more farkle. Literally the hardest part of this job was getting the hose off because it was kind of stuck and it is hard to get your fingers in the small space to get a good grip. I ended up using a screwdriver blade to push the end of the hose while pulling at the same time. I think i will put a dab of boy butter (silicone grease) on the nipples to make it easier next time. The other hard part was figuring out exactly where to put the Carbtune. I have my bike in a wheel chock to keep it upright so the handle bars are straight putting near the grips made it too far away for the hoses to reach the opposite side. I happened to have the seat off so I put it in that area. I was also worried about the hoses melting if they contact the pipes but that did not seem to be an issue. Another thing about the Carbtune, at least the one I have, is that one of the rods will stick if it is not mostly vertical. That is an important check the rods will bounce when the engine is running so make sure all 4 are bouncing. I ended not taking a before shot because I am bad like that. But I did get an after. The pairs were close to each other but the sides were off a bit. Get knee pads when you do this to save your knees. The first thing I did was get my long screw driver to make sure I could reach the screws. Even though I knew where to look it was kind of hard to pick them out at first. The one that does the one side to the other was like trying to find Waldo. Anyway here is an after pic. Thanks to the guys that post info to make things like this easy to figure out. David.

Did somebody has take off and put back the carbs on a 96-00 Royal Star? The real question is how to put it back fitting properly on the rubber boots that goes to the cylinders? after replace the boots, It seems that even when everything is ok, there is no way to put the carbs back on place. All that I reach was my finger hammered till now with the rubber hammer. Thanks

I'm wondering if there is a SC Venture owner with passenger arm rests installed that would be willing to meet up with me, so I can check out your arm rests? Mainly have my nine year old passenger check them out and see if she can even reach the rests? I've looked at many variations of passenger arm rests, my dilemma is that they seem to sit way forward of where her arms would comfortably reach, which would defeat the purpose of me funding a set. The days are warming up and are getting longer, so we could meet pretty much meet up with you anywhere in our state.

I can not seem to find a socket to fit. First socket was not deep enough, then bought a new socket, and it was too thick. Now I am scratching my head. The socket fits on the plug, but cant reach the plug. The outer wall of the socket is stopping it from reaching the plug. Any help?

I know the rules on Politics but this relates to Motorcycles!! The General Assembly of North Carolina has a bill in the works and it looks like it made to the first reading!!! [House Bill 920, Motorcycles-No Passengers Under Age 16] I don't live in North Carolina, but I have been transporting My son (now age 12) for the last 4 years on the back of our 650 V-Star & as of last year the Royal Star Venture to get him to karate class and to school events and anything else. As soon as he could reach the foot pegs he started riding with me. I like to know just what they plan on doing when someone from out state comes into North Carolina with their kid on the back of a motorcycle? Are they going to make them detour all the way around the state and what if my destination is inside the state? I have the Constitutional Right to Travel and what is legal for me to do in my home state go's with me as I go over state lines.

My six year old son is wanting to ride with me on the 2000 RSV and his legs are not long enough for his feet to reach the floorboards yet. Does anyone know of a bracket to make the floorboards raise up to the saddlebag lids?

I have been wondering for quite a while, just how fast is the RSV? I know my 99 RSV is very quick, and it does not have any wind out time to speak of to reach 100 mph. But I am not too crazy about traffic tickets, so I don't reach that kind of speed very often. But still, I am curious, has anyone really seen just how fast the RSV will go?

All I need is one last piece to fix the fairing and finish my parts hunt and I hit the refresh to see the price go from 30 to 122 bucks and pretty much right out of my reach. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-93-1989-YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-RIGHT-SIDE-SPEAKER_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ35596QQihZ015QQitemZ250170170633QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW I always wondered what it was like to own a solid gold bike cause apparently it's worth it's weight in it piece by piece.- 10 replies
