The wife wants to ride down to the Alamo and the river walk. What hotel would you guys recommend from $100-150 range that's close by and mc friendly? Thanks in advance.

I've done numerous searches but much to my surprise I can't seem to find much on the actual fuel range of the RSTD. I realize it will vary depending on a number of issues but I'm trying to get an idea. I always seem to be stopping for gas while on a trip but maybe it's the nature of the beast. Anyway, on a full tank of gas, how far can you go. thanks Greg

Well I had the back wheel off to change out the tire. Noticed the fuel filter hanging out there under the rear fender. Thought to myself, it would be a convenient time to change it out. On my way to the shop to swap tires picked one up at Cdn Tire. Wow what a difference. Fired up the bike and it goes through the hole rpm range now with no stumbling at all. I was thinking it needed diaphrams and such. Been running seafoam and helped a little. Just wanted to pass it on. If your ride is running like SH*t, maybe the $4 fix, not the $100 one needed:) Brad

A buddy of mine in Bowie TX will be in the market for a good used touring bike in about a month from now. He has a 3 hour ride to his corporate office in Mt. Pleasant TX (usually goes out on Monday and returns home on Thursday), and wants to start riding instead of spending monster money on gas with the big a$$ truck every week. So you guys in that area, keep your eye out for some possible referrals I can send his way in February in the under-$5,000 range. He's not sure he's ready for an RSV, but something in the VTX 1300/Kawi Vulcan/Suzuki Boulevard size and amenity range is more what he's looking for. Harley is OK too, but he's thinking liquid cooled. Clean, lower mileage, no maintenance issues, hard bags a plus, windshield/fairing, no specific color in mind. You get the idea. He hasn't ridden in awhile, and will be taking a MSF course, but really doesn't know what's out there. I'll touch base back in early Feb with this, or drop me a PM if you see something that might fit the bill that I can pass on to him. Personal referrals from reliable bikers (that would be you guys!) are always better then not knowing the bike's history. Thanks!

Hubby bought us the Shark bt intercom for our helmets. One thing we noticed is this. There's alot of treble on the headset and not alot of bass. These use the 3.5mm jack to plug into the bt transmitter. Is it possible to get a new speaker set with mic that has a fuller range than the set that comes with the transmitters? I'm mostly using mine to listen to music out on the road but like every now and then to have an easy way to talk with the hubby.

just got back from seeing my doctor and lawyer i ha ve been fighting a workers comp case for over 3 years and now it looks like we are going to settle check might be here by october all the papers are signed. now thats good news but here is what im asking? my doctor said i can go ahead and try and ride my motorcycle this fall or next spring. as most pepole here know my bike runs fair. but i want to go down to a more easy to ride motorcycle due to my knees and health. so im asking what type of bike would you all think i should look at ? i want a decent yamaha crusier maybe? that i can handle and ride to MD next year. i dont think a 650 cc would make me happy. and i dont want a big heavy touring bike as of now. my price range might be in the 3k range depending on this settlement and the possible sale of the venture. i once had a yamaha maxim and loved that bike. but was thinking along the line of a good virago? so whats your opion on bikes i wont be buying one till next spring. thanks

OK I know its been discussed butI cant find specifics. When my taxes come in my wife has gave me permision to get a gps.Limit is in the $300 range. What will be a good gps in this range with bluetooth and mp3 player with an exterior speaker output. I will be getting in touch with buddyrich for a cable hook up that he makes for the 1st gens. This gps will be mostly for the bike but also will pull double duty in the cage when needed. Any ideas will be apreciated. Thanks in advance David

I'll try to explain what I'm trying to do....more for fun than any real need. I'm doing a book keeping spreadsheet. On a summary page, I have a formula that adds the numbers in a column based on the "code" found in the next cell. This helps me to track different sources of income, each one with it's own code =SUMIF(A4:A85,U93,E4:E85) so this formula says to compare the letter code found the cells A4 to A85 and IF they are the same as the comparison cell (U93) then return the SUM of the value from cells E4 to E85. This formual is repeated IN DIFFERENT CELLS with different comparison cell codes. (U94, or U95) I want create a similar formula to read a name found anywhere in a range of cells and if it is there, to then print that name in another cell. (on the summary page) yet, not have other cells repeat that name ....AND.... if that name is not in that range of cells, to allow a different name to be returned in that same cell I can't use the same formula because I am asking for text...not numbers. in much the same manner, I can look at the range of cells, and return a number associated with that company name =SUMIF(B11:B89,"Hydro One",J11:J89) ...asking it to give me the SUM of payouts found in cells J11 to J89, as long as "Hydro One" is contained somewhere in the range of cells from B11 to B89 This formula works fine when I ask it to look at a single cell. =IF(B11=R101,"company name","") so in the cell on the summary page... the formula looks to see if cell B:11 contains the same name as the comparison cell (R101), if it does, it displays "Company name", if that exact name is not found , it displays nothing ("") When I ask it to look at a range of cells it returns the "false" value ("") because that specific text is not in every cell of the range. I THOUGHT it would check the entire range of cells to see if that name is in ANY of the cells....but it is actually checking ot ensure the name is in ALL of the cells =IF(B11:B85=R101,"company name","") What formula can I use to get it to check a range of cells, and return a name from a multiple choice of 5 companies. Of course if any name is already used in that cell then it has to just forget about the whole thing and move on. The next cell below would do the same until all the vendors are listed along with their totals. Any suggestions...perhaps a macro? I could just type in in...but what's the fun in that?

I would like to know if there is a way to de-tune my range on the cb. I have the squelch set all the way up on 20 and I get chatter like crazy. My brother in-law has a Midnight and on the way to and from MD Saturday I was getting a TON on trucker chatter, he did not get any. My wife has a J&M on her Shadow and she does not get the chatter. I swear my radio must be picking stuff up from 20 miles away. It's very annoying. Makes it hard to listen to the radio. I almost had to turn it off on the way down. I do not want to hear all the other stuff, just the poeple I am riding with. Does anyone know how I can reduce the range?...........without breaking off the antenna!!!!

A bud of mine is looking for a wing. He cant afford one of those fancy shmancy new ones. I would say something around 5-6k. Just by looking quickly at craiglist that should gets something in the 95 and under range. What year should he avoid or what are some of the nuances of any particular year? Any help is appreciated. Cant talk him into a first gen...lol.

After all of the charging system woes I had over the last year I thought they were back after a 6 month hiatus. My Signal Dynamics idiot light starting to indicate (by color) that I was only charging in the 12v range and if I switched on my driving lights I was in the 11 range. Here we go again, or so I thought.... Today I pulled the seat and with my trusty DMM attached, I had 12.98 off, 13.82 at idle, 13.94 at 3000 rpm and with full accessories turned on had 13.56 at 3000 rpm and 13.48 at idle. Sooooooo, im gonna toss that idiot light and try and find a better meter. Im looking at the Kisan but the cost is putting me off. Maybe a Battery Bug will do.

Considering purchasing the Bakup drivers backrest for my 2006 RSTD. They are proud of them because they are in the $350.00 range. About $150.00 to $200.00 more then their competition They appear to be well engineered and have a range of adjustments. Anyone have experience with them?

OK, I'm sorta looking at this supposedly 2000 RSTD on Ebay. I kinda like the styling, looks a lot like a stratoliner, but it doesn't look like any other TD I've seen. The specs list the HP at 74, and I thought the RSV and TD were more in the 98hp range. Take a look and see what you think. Can't tell by the vin number the seller entered either. I have read most of the threads on swapping antennaes on 2nd generations. I was wondering if anyone has taken their CB to a trucker CB shop to see if they could be boosted like a regular CB for output, clarity and range? I know the range isn't that far and was wondering if it could be increased.

(Any Idea's ) After my conversion, the first few weeks my top end power was there, I now have over 1500 miles on since then and loving every minute of it, I will never go back! , but what has happened or is it my Imagination? If I kick it into 5th gear I lose my top-end power range. I have changed plugs / air filters etc. still the same. I know that I now have an extra 300 pounds but As I get up into the higher range or up a hill I can not seem to go over 65 mph , it is like horse power is maxed out . In the lower gears ( 1/2/3 and a bit of 4th) I can get the RPM's up really high. any idea's? or am I just getting old? *lol* On Another note: when we had 2 wheels and pulled our trailer I was pulling 300 more pounds and all was OK, and a passenger. I have been a rider for over twenty-five years. My wife and I would like to step up our riding and do more longer range trips. Currently I have a Road King Custom but considering the Royal Star Venture. Seems like everyone that has one is totally happy with it. Can anyone answer these questions: 1. What is the chance of a fuel injection version for 2010? 2. Generation I is 1983 thru 1993....What is gen II and is there a III? 3. Is the RPM range at 60mph about 2850? 4. Any riders have any pros or cons about this bike? Thanks for your help

Not anything I'd ride cross country, but I got a sneaky peek at it this week, and it's unlike anything I've ever seen. 193 HP, only 405 lbs., ABS and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), 4 different power modes, central ram air intake, two injectors per cylinder, and a rev range that peaks at 14,200 RPM. Heard that it will sell for about $17K, maybe a little less. It is truly a piece of work. http://www.s1000rr.com Check it out. Might just be my "second" scoot!

I have been reading different post on carb adj. sinking of carbs, float adj. ect. Now what I need to know is how to adj. the jets? How do you know if the adj. is right? with out some kind of air/fuel gauge it is imposable to know if all the jets are right threw all 3 ranges. Your idle could be right & mid range ritch & high end right. witch in turn would be lower fuel milage. Or at high speed the first 2 could be right & high range could be ritch. in turn lower fuel milage & maybe lower power? I know about pulling the plugs & checking them but that is not real acc. in all ranges eather.

Guys, I know there is a lot of info on the site about the infamous "chirp" and the clutch basket changeout. What I wanted to do with this post is get some statistics to determine a percentage of success before I proceed to hassle the local dealer to change mine. Reason is, I can live with it the way it is and if all the I-basket will do for me (based on the odds) is to move the chirp/whine to a different RPM range, I won't bother. So, using the above poll, I hope to arrive at some sort of decision. If you choose Other, would you kindly elaborate. Thanks for your input.

Yet another question from this NOOB about his 83 VR: My bike seems to run warm....I wont say hot because the guage never gets in the red but it gets close sometimes. Now granted, this may just be my paranoia and inexperience with a bigger bike (Ive always had smaller bikes w/o temp guages). Anyway, heres what Im seeing....if you will divide the temp gauge into quarters in your minds eye, like a car gas gauge, the top quarter being redline, the bottom quarter being cold and the half in the middle the normal operating range: When I start out in the mornings, the outside temp is about 70 and the bike runs pegged right in the center of the normal operating range...at what would be 1/2 tank on the imaginary markings. But in the afternoon when temps get up around 95 - 100, the bike hangs just below the redline with only maybe a 16th of an inch of green showing. The fan comes on occasionally, not constantly, and if I ride the bike conservatively (65 - 70 mph, keeping rpms around 3500) it doesnt get any hotter. Even if I push the bike it doesnt redline, but the fan runs more frequently. So.....am I a paranoid wack job and this is normal summer heat woes for an 83? Or is that hotter than it should be and if so, what can I check or adjust to cool this bike off a little. Oh, PS, it was just serviced, had the cooling system flushed out, pump tested and coolant replaced with "Engine Ice" brand coolant. Paul
