I ran across THIS last night. What do you all think?

My handlebars don't seem to be quite right. Seems like I have to reach a little farther than is really comfortable. I don't really notice it until a longer ride. It seems like the handlebars are *just* far enough away that I end up tensing up my arms, shoulders and neck. Once I realize I'm doing it, I can try to relax a little but usually by the time I've noticed I'm already in pain and it's too late. I ran across these for the RSV [ame=http://www.ebay.com/itm/200603911792?_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649&viewitem==&item=200603911792=&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1413]Yamaha Royal Star 1.5" Handlebar Risers Venture | eBay[/ame] and I'm wondering if they have something similar (or if these ones fit) for a RSTD. I don't think I need a whole lot, just need to move the handle bars about an inch closer to me. Thanks folks!

Help!! First off,....excuse my ignorance....But I need help and fast! I have a '86 venture royal.....great bike....but recently....after a long down-time (almost a year) of not running I bought a new battery and got it fired up. Naturally, I wasn't to suprised when It wasn't running perfectly....figured old gas....so....sea-foamed,....and later tried techtron that I have had very good results with also. Ran it for a quick and although shot road test.....loaded it up with myself ,.wife and camping stuff and headed out. got about 35 or forty miles and it prgressively got worse so turned around and headed home. By the time we got back....hitting on only the front two cylinders....and burnt about half a tank in that short distance...naturally. So,....checking it out....sure enough....back two not firing....so quick went and bought some new plugs and put them in.....ran like a sewing machine....for about 1.5 miles.....same mis-firing came back. Now,....have read a little on here about something called a TCI.....but what is it and where is it. suspect it is a major ignition componet??? Also read about some memebers experiances with connector problems....a 6 pin? Again...where is it. I don't own a service manual for it sadly.....never had any real problems with it since I have owned it. Help! appreciate a point in the right direction

T'was the night before Christmas and all through the towns, the boys were waitin for the countdown. The fireplace was full of that stocking routine, in hopes the big boy would make the scene. With our stomachs full of paninis and beer we headed for the bedroom for some special cheer. When out in the yard there arose such a racket, I ran for the door and pull on my motorcycle jacket. I saw a large Bro on a 56 Pan, wearin' black leathers, a cool biker man. ... ... He hauled back the bars on that bike full of sacks, and it hit the roof like it was running on tracks. I couldn't stop gawking, the old guy had class, but I had to go in I was freezing my ass. Down through the chiminey he fell with a crash, and out of the fireplace he came dragging his stash. With a smile and a glee he passed out the loot, a new jacket for her and some parts for my scoot. He padded her ass and shook my right hand, turned on his heels and up the chimney he ran. From upon the roof came a great deal of thunder. As the massive V-Quad ripped the silence asunder. With beard in the wind he roared off in the night shouting "have a cool yule, and to all have a good ride."

Always cracks me up. Well, as long as it's not costing me a bunch of money to make right. I just bought a dang near new HF Tag-A-Long right. I got it cheap enough. I knew when I looked at it I had a few things to deal with. The coupler was crushed into the tongue as the PO had not used washers to shim the couple and it has pulled in so tight the latch for the ball would not move without being pried down with a pry bar. I had to remove the hitch and the latch assembly to get it over the ball when I hooked up. Got that corrected today. One handed hookup now. When saw the trailer the first time I knew something was not right with the wiring. I'm no whiz kid when it comes to electrical but I was pretty sure there were too many wires coming into, through the frame and into the tailight housings. I was right. More than needed. There was an extra wire with a female crimp on connector that ran forward with the 4 wire trailer plug. My best guess at first glance was maybe an extra ground wire. I chased it today and it ran through the frame and was spliced and split into both taillight housings. Holes had been drilled and the wires ran inside. I pulled the lens off both sides and it all made sense. And extra 1156 bulb had been installed in both housings. Not to mention one of the 1156 bulbs had come apart and was laying in the bottom. I hooked up a fused jumper wire and powered the extra wire from the front. Blew da fuse. Pulled the wire and it was cut into where the wire ran thought the holes in the frame with zero protection. Nice. So I can kind of understand the thinking here...... maybe the PO just wanted a couple running lights at the rear. Went the hard way about it in my mind. Now when he hits his lights he had (2) 1157's, (2) 1156's and (4) 194 wedge bulbs lit up. Then add the brake lights and the voltmeter has to be taking a nose dive into the red. I'm seeing why the PO may have been happy to trade off the damn near new Tag-A-Long and be done with it. Can't hook it up, throwing sparks and some lights had quit working and the battery was probably taking a beating. I got to admit, I'm enjoying the old "His loss, my gain" moment. Oh, and I checked the zerks and one was not only missing but a plug had been installed in the hole. Nice touch. Mike

Finally hit 3k mileage on that 11 FJR I now own. On a ride this past Saturday, had a couple 2d genners try to hang with me both through the twisties (embarrassing for them) and to gain up distance they lost through the twisties in the straight aways) all while heading up and back down FM4 in North Texas. I think one of em ran outta gas cause I have no idea where they went. Ha Ha. What a fun, fast scooter to ride. I really must be careful. Want to ride it down to the Leakey ride but will have to wait to see if I can take vacation off from the nut house.

Arrived yesterday. Weather was nice. Cooler than expected. Met a Canuk on a sweet RSV purchasedin January from a Sandy UT owner. I invited him to join the VR site. Ran into RogerII, Lori & Mark last night. Looking forward to seeing others.

I was wondering how much air pressure I should be running in my forks. The guy I bought the bike from ran them with no pressure but I think that is too soft.

Yesterday I fired the VR to go to my DOT physical. She settled into an idle at about 1200 rpm when the norm has been more like 800 or 900. Later that day, after say 100 miles of running errands (I may have taken the long way, all day) it now seems to smell very rich, real gassy. As in gasoline, not gassy like me after Mexican food. And it may have a slight stumble on one cylinder. It ran fine when I shut it off the previous time it ran. I ran it Sunday, went to work Monday till Wednesday night and got on her Thursday morning. It just sat in the shed from the time it ran fine till it now runs differently. And not in a good way. I had the carbs cleaned and tuned after I bought it. I run ethanol treatment religiously and have sea foamed it regularly. Any suggestions? Maybe the diaphragms or one of them, went bad?

This story starts back in Feb'2012 when my beloved Motorvation Trailer got legs and disappeared over the horizon. Since the escape it's remained at large. It was insured so I wasn't worried about finding something to replace it, and after a few months I started shopping Craigslist instead of hoping to see the Motorvation listed for sale by the DS that took it. About a month ago I ran into a nice 2003 American Legend Trailer and bought it. It looks good behind the RSV even though it's black, and the price was very right. Fast forward to last weekend. Just before buying the AL I found a white 2010 Teardrop listed in a local auction, but ran into a scheduling problem and couldn't make the auction. To my surprise it turned up again last weekend due to the bidder not having the bucks to pay for it. So I bought it this time around. The price was very close to what I had paid for the Legend. I actually bought it to make a few bucks since I already had a trailer that I liked. Here's the conundrum.... The dang thing is growing on me, and now I don't know what to do??? Which one should I keep?? The Legend is built to retro blend with a Harley and does look good behind the '99. The Teardrop has cleaner lines and is like a cavern inside. Which way do you think I should go???

I rode the revamped Venture today for the first time in over a year, it was really surprising, I had forgotten how heavy that bike is. I took it easy on the first ride, still no rear brakes, but just ran it around the neighbor hood and ran it thru the gears, its so nice to have 2nd gear. Waiting on the rear master cylinder that Bongobobny is sending me, and I am ordering all new diaphragms for it, it should really run good after they get put in and carb tuned. I cant believe I did the tranny swap, its the biggest repair I have taken on so far, hopefully that will be the last. I couldnt have done it without all the tech articles here. $12.00 well spent.

I removed the old Harley lights off the back of the bike this afternoon. I installed them last year, and since putting them on, I have had to replace two battery's. Okay this is the question Strip lights are LEDs ( Diamond R's) the Harley lights are 1157 bulbs, I ran them together to the brake lights wiring at the license plate housing. Was that the wrong way to wire them? Did I need a Converter for the LED's?

Took a little ride today down to Greensboro, NC to meet up with the Muffinman as he was helping out one of our new members that picked up an 83 Venture for less than a song. It was great to see him again and be able to visit and have a meal with him. He is one of the best. I was glad Brian, HotRodYJ, got to meet him. It was a bit of a cool ride, for me anyway, as most of the day was cloudy and from about 50 to 55 degrees. We also ran thru some misty rain, but it did not get us wet. Normally when you drop off the mountain going from NE TN toward the middle of NC, it gets hotter. Today at about 1pm, it was 54 degrees in Greensboro and when we got Boone, NC, it was 72 degrees and about 50 miles away in Johnson City, TN, it was 82 degrees. On the way down, we ran from about 65 to 75 mph most of the way and when I gassed up, I got 42 mpg. On the way back up the mountain, we ran the speed limit, with most being 65 mph and when I got home and filled up, I was up to 47.4 mpg, which I was happy with. We also had a little headwind going down and tailwind coming home. It was a good day, especially when we almost got a ticket by a State Trooper. RandyA

I was going to buy a new Weed Whacker but decided to work on the old one. It wouldn't run except with full choke. I drained the fuel and just put in Seafoam and cranked it a few times and let it sit for 24 hours. Drained the Seafoam put in fresh gas and it started up and ran just like it was suppose to. It even idled and didn't stall until I shut it off. Great stuff that Seafoam.

Gorgeous day yesterday after weeks of cold, rainy, crappy weather. Was so good to get out on the scoot for the day. Snapped a few pics. Ran into panjandrum and his wife along the way and had lunch with them. Was a great day!

New to posting on this site, but have been researching since last year. Lots of information and help to take in. I have a 88 VR that has served me well for many years. Now, I'm at a point where I may call it quits. I was unable to ride for a whole summer (2010) due to health problems. The VR had been winterized and parked inside. I tried to fire it up spring of 2011 and would not run. Fuel looked like thick/dark apple cider. Drained fuel, flushed fuel tank, replaced fuel filter and filled the tank. At this point the bike barley ran. Pulled the carbs and cleaned following the write ups. No change. Slides did not seem to move, replaced diaphrams. No changed. Now for the expensive part. Tried to find someone to work on it. Only one place in town would touch it. They did a "carb Job" and said it ran great. Picked up the bike and it ran that was about it. No power, bad fuel milage (22 HWY @60), and bike surged on the HWY. Rode it for a week hoping it would come out of it. Only option was to take it back. Two weeks later, picked it up with a pick up coil replaced and a ton of labor hours. Surge on Hwy gone and barley runs. Bike acts like it is bogged down until RPM reaches about 6000. Then it runs like it use to. Tons of power and sounds awesome. Sorry for being long winded but wanted to offer as much info as I could. Any help or ideas would be great. Thanks for your time. Bill

Just in general for any battery if a battery has multiple cells and is ran in a series does the battery drain 1 cell at a time? If the battery is ran in parallel does all cells drain at the same time?

I just ran across this when I was looking through my MC stuff in the garage and thought it may of use to some of you. You can create your own list and check it off as you go. Check it out http://micapeak.com/checklists/

Well i decided to take one of my 2 new bikes out for a good long test ride today. Went over 200 miles and the bike ran flawlessly, minus the rear master cylinder seizing up and almost burning out my back brake. Only got 34 mpg though.

Ok, have a 2001 RSV and with 85,000 miles I have always used high test gasoline thinking it gave it more power and better miliage, wrong, this is the thoughts of a majority of people includeing myself until SkyDoc enlightened me. The RSV was designed to run on 86 octain and not high test. Just made a trip 2 days ago from Va to St Louis, running 75 and 80 MPH just about all the way, I averaged 42.2 MPG with lowest 38.7 on one tank full. The bike also ran better, and smoother than it has ever ran, even the whinn sounds quiter. Just think of all the money I wasted on high test in those 85,000 miles at 30 cent more per gallon. So guys and gals, go to regular gasoline, it will make a very noticable differance to your advantage, again thank you SkyDoc. JB:dancefool:

Hauled a load last week from Pasco,Wa. to Grass Valley,Ca.... I ran 395 70 49 and 89 to the top of Donner Pass in Truckee... Then ran I80 to Highway 20 down the hill into Grass Valley... It would have been way better on the bike, but that stretch of 20 was real cool.... I was on it at 5pm local time and quite a bit of traffic...

Hi, and thank you in advance. I have been looking for a venture that needed some work as the bike funds are low, and I found an 83 with 50.000 miles on it in really nice shape that ran last year but will not start now. The owner want's $600.00 so I have to get it. Okay the question is, this is the second venture "needing work" that I have looked at that previously ran, but only, or mostly on 3 cylinders. I am well aware of carb issues and air leaks, but I am wondering about the ignition control system as well, is there a common problem that would manifest itself by dropping one cylinder? I know I could do a search, sorry but I am in a time crunch. Thank's for the help, really nice group here!
