  1. ok i have an old dell e510 it has 512 mb of ram yeah i know thats and old computer well it can be up dated to 4gb of ram. well i went on to flebay and got me 2 gb of ram. 1 stick each of 1 gb. after installing these things. the darn computer just went beep beep beep. and would not boot up? so take it apart again remove this ram place back the old ones and bam shes running again. after a carefull look they sent me what looks like a HP ram? now im no computer whiz but im pretty sure that wont work. after sending a request to the store on flebay they said its a generic one and they never had problems with this ram working before in my type of dell? and made a nasty remark that they left positive on my report. but if they get a negitive from me they will not exchange this. so looks like im out $24 bucks. unless im installing it wrong.
  2. Got a question. What does the Zumo 550 use as a mount on the backside. The reason I ask is my look-a-like Streetpilot c550 snaps onto a 17mm ball, and I just got off the phone with RAM and they are telling me the Zumo mount bolts on?? And.... they don't have anything that will work with the STPilot. Even though when you go on their website for MC mounts,, and use their search engine, the mount they say to use on the MC says it's not recommended for MC use. I used to really like RAM mounts, but lately they are getting to be a joke....

  7. Looking for a bracket mount for a Garmin 665 XM satellite antenna. Similar to this. http://www.gpscity.ca/g/gps/l/4/ram344.jpg Any other options than RAM? Anyone have one to move along to a new home? Thanks

  10. I need to order a RAM mount for my GPS. Looking at the mounting options has me confused what will fit on an 89 1st Gen. There doesn't seem to be much room between the actual round bars and the reservoirs. Any examples or pictures of what has been done or works? The reservoir mounts
  11. Has anyone tried this type of Ram Mount for their GPS on a 2nd Gen ? Looks interesting but I'm curious how it would look. www.ram-mount.com/NewProducts/MotorcycleClampMount/tabid/2038/Default.aspx Keith
  12. I have now lost two marine grade drink holders off the handlebars. I'm going to a RAM Mount system. It's been dead reliable for my GPS, and when I get a video camera, I'll mount to the same place. I am a fan of the RAM Mount system. My question is whether anyone has used one for passenger drink holding? I have an RSTD, so mounting it to the saddle bag guards is about my only option. Anyone have experience with RAM Mounts there? Dave
  13. I just purchased the Ram Mount Reservoir Cover from MotorcycleLarry.com. This is the cover that replaces the OEM reservoir cover and has a RAM BALL on one end of it. I am just curious for those of you that use this mount...Did you put it on the Right or Left (I am assuming most put it on the left)...and more importantly, do you have the BALL to the inside of the bike or the outside? Do you use the 2" arm or the 3" arm and do you mount it ABOVE the Com/Audio Controller or over to the side. Thanks for any and all help on this. Wally
  14. Ok here goes... The Garmin site says that the 785T is compatible with an external mic. Does anyone here have one they can look at for me? How about the Ram Mount bracket? What I want to know is Where is the mic input? Unit or Cradle? If it is in the cradle does the Ram Mount cradle have it as well? I really want to be able to use my phone if necessary and cannot justify $700 for the Zumo 550. The 785T has all the features I want for $300 and I can bag it if it looks like rain. Any input here is welcome.... and appreciated.. Wayne OR does anyone want to sell me a Zumo 550 for $400 or less??

  18. I want to thank everyone in advance for all the suggestions and recommendations for mounting GPS eq. My navigator got a new TomTom for her birthday from her sister and she wants to mount it to the RSV. I have purchased a RAM mount for the TomTom. And while I think this is an okay idea, it would give her one less thing to be able to tell me how to do..... My question is, do I need to purchase some sort of tether for the TomTom or is the RAM mount secure enough not to have to worry about? If I do need to purchase a tether, I am open to suggestions on what and where to buy and how to attach it. Thanks again,

    Ram Mount

I need a mount for my new Tom Tom and Zune. Will this one fit an 07 RSTD? http://www.custommounts.com/RAM_B_309_2_RAM_MOTORCYCLE_HANDLEBAR_BASE_W_2_B_p/ram-b-309-2.htm
  20. I just got an 03 Venture with 32,000 on it and really like the bike. Got rid of an 06 Gold Wing that I bought brand new I had put 26,000 on it. Now the question Has any body tried to put a ram mount on the plastic piece that is just in front of the gas tank cap. I have an I-way 350 and it would not work on the Handle bars of the Gold Wing so really don,t expect it to work on the Venture. I was thinking of putting the base that is about 1 inch wide and 3 inches long on it by using two sided tape and drilling two holes and wide flat wasjers under it. Do you think this will work. Thanks Larry
  21. Understanding your RSV Rear Shock Many of you have seen my old RSV shock that I had cut open to expose what the inside of the shock looks like. Well I have gone to the next step. I just had my Works shock rebuilt and this is when I realized these shocks don’t last forever and rebuildable shocks need to have the oil changed out every 35,000 miles or so because the oil wears out and get contaminated with the nitrogen. Once I understood this, I felt that the oil in the RSV should probably be changed out as well. So when I went to pick it up I took this cut-up and exposed shock to let my professional shock rebuilder look at this shock and give me his evaluation of what makes this shock work and what is the purpose each section of the shock. And I was a bit surprised but after he looked at it and we talked it over, everything made perfect sense. So here it goes….where you can refer to the diagram in the attached file: You can see that I have identified four basic parts of the shock: Outer Body Inner Sealed Shock Valving The Outer Shock Seal Polished RamItem 1. is the upper black part of the shock just above the rubber boot. This is nothing more than an air chamber, where in conjunction with (4.) the polished ram and (3.) the seal, allows air to be pumped in via the hose and Schrader valve to control shock preload and bike ride height. Item 2. Is where the real shock valving resides and is completely press sealed like what you would see on one of your Monroe shocks. I assume this contains oil and maybe a nitrogen charge, but the latter is only a wild guess. Item 3. is the outer body seal that keeps air in the upper chamber. There is a metal bushing just above it to keep the upper body in alignment with Item 4. the polished ram. Item 4. Is the polished ram that resides under the rubber boot. Even though this piece is polished, it is not hardened and is susceptible to scratches, mostly from a dry bushing. Another purpose of this piece is to act as a reservoir for 7.5 oz of oil that stays inside the shock to lubricate the outer shock seal and ram. The reason I know the amount of oil, is that I took out the Schrader valve, hung the shock upside down and let it drain for 5 days until it stopped. With the shock upright, the oil will stay in this cup pretty much undisturbed, with the exception there is a 1/8” hole about ¾” down from the top of the ram. I can only assume that as the bike moves from side to side some oil will come out this hole, run down the ram and help lube the bushing and seal. Now this also means that if the bike is laid on its side, most of the oil will run out and down the outside of the ram. I can only suspect when this happens, a shock will start leaking (seeping) oil out the bottom if there are scratches in the ram. But if the ram is not scratched and the seal is holding this will not present a problem with the shock action. This will only help lube the bushing and seal. In fact in those cases where the shock is making that squeaking or groaning noise, it is doing this because the seal is dry and really needs to be lubricated. At this point, I would suggest that you could lay the bike down on it’s side and let some of the oil run down the side and I’ll bet your groaning shock will quiet down. Also, I would have no problem taking the schrader valve out and squirting in a couple ounces of 20 weight fork oil down the hose to help lube the ram. You will also note that this shock has a full-length spring but with a spring rate of only 839 lbs/in and the shock travel is 1.77 inches. Now my conclusion on this shock is that you could cut the upper body and the polished ram completely off and you would still have a fully functional shock……but without any preload or ride height adjustability. And it’s not a bad design for what it does for the average rider. But if we are taxing the load limit of the shock beyond 839 lbs. or the maximum load limit of the bike of 419 lbs., we should be looking for a heavier shock. The spring rate on my Works shock is 1,200 lbs. Finally, if the shock is leaking oil, the ram is scratched and maybe the seal torn so it won’t hold air much longer anyway so it should be replaced under warranty. If it’s groaning it just needs some internal lubrication, where I have given you a couple of options to satisfy this. There you have it, Rick Shock Diagram.PDF
