1. I'll try to explain where my problem exists. On the side of the rear fender, bolted to the fender, there is a chrome strip that the passenger "Oh Sh** handle" and the forward luggage rack support bolts to. I found two bolts missing, one for the passenger handle and the front luggage rack support. My question is; Are there nuts on the inside of that chrome strip, or are there threads built into the strip or some kind of plate fixed on the inside of the chrome strip that the bolts screw in to? Do I need to remove this strip? Does it require removal of the rear wheel? Thanks in advance for any answers.
2. Saw a 2005 RSMV listed for sale at a local dealer. Nothing special about the bike, few extras like passing lamps, trunk rack, etc. Listed price was $11,999.00 I sent an email wishing them luck!
3. Wanting to put an RSV Trunk on my 2006 RSTD . Looking at a 99 venture trunk. Thinking it will fit? Will a 2nd gen oem trunk support fit the 99 RSV trunk and my 06 RSTD. The trunk I'm looking at will need a little repair and new paint to match my bike and is pretty expensive. I am aware of the aftermarket trunks and wompus rack, but just don't like the looks. If any one knows of a RSV Trunk for sale anywhere, I'd be interested.
4. On a ride with a Goldwing Bud a few weeks ago I was envious of is Bushtec Cooler Rack attached to this Bushtec hitch. On a weekend trip we had no need for the trailer, but his cooler held some cold drinks and snacks. His wife liked it and my wife "REALLY" liked it. Sleeperhawk has a rack I liked some time back, but that company is out of business. Soooooo I ordered the same Igloo 16Qt. cooler that Bushtec uses and had the frame and cover made. On his Wing it is mounted longways left to right (Wing Lights mounted higher than RSV). I did not want to "WIRE" the rack so I measured and discovered that the cooler mounted N & S versus E & W (could not see the turn signals that way on the RSV) would work. I have a signal dynamics light bar for the brake, and the license plate is visible so here it is. Note: I ordered FuzzyRSTD's Hitch Clamp from our sight to tighten things up. Works GREAT by the way. All in...$120..... Long Tall Lynchburg, VA
5. still havent found one, who knew this would be the rarest part of the venture if anyone know where there is one or has one for sale let me know please, i also need the chrome rack for it
6. Has anyone made a rack to carry your bicycle on the top of a tag along or trailer?? Any pictures??
7. i need a right hand saddle bag cover missing on my venture, its a the brown cover with the chrome rack on it, any of you have one your willing to sell?
8. Hey all, hope I posted this in the right place... I've got a 2 week cruise coming up in September and I ordered the stock Yamaha luggage rack for my 08 RSTD, looking to mount a sissy bar bag for some extra storage. I'm mainly looking to move the odds-n-ends I carry in my bags to the rack - you know shield cleaner, rain suit, gloves, etc... I've been looking at VikingBags, Tourmaster, Saddleman (and others) and they all have decent-looking bags, but the stock rack isn't flat - it's straight for about 6 in. then it angles up for maybe 3 in. more. So the bags with hard, flat bottoms won't sit flush on the rack. I'm wondering if a round bag such as the Tourmaster Select Sissy Bar bag would work better. And some of these bags don't seem to have much options regarding mounting. So question is: anybody got a recommendation on a good bag for mounting on an 08 RSTD stock luggage rack? Be nice if it was big enough to hold an XXL full face helmet as well as the odds-n-ends listed above, but not Wingebago size.
9. Looking for recommendation for trunk rack top bag....on the rack not inside...
10. Just finished installing this stainless steel rack my girlfriend found on ebay. $45 bucks and some fasteners and junk I had laying around bought us a serviceable rack. This is a low budge bike from the git-go, so I'm just sticking to my theme. Thing is, due to a mixup, we ended up with 2 of these racks, so I figured if anybody else could use it, if you want to pay shipping, I'd happily give it to you. Who needs a very inexpensive generic looking luggage rack? heh heh heh
11. So here's the story relating to my 88. When I first got it I needed 1/2 choke just to keep it running. MARCARL and I cleaned out every oriface possible with the carbs still on the bike with carb cleaner and compressed air. We set it up best he could and since then I have seafoamed it with a very strong mixture overnight a few times, and add several ounces every 3-4 tanks. Once in a while I put in a heavier dose . It's had at least 8-10 cans thru it. I had a case of a sticky float (I think)on the #3 carb earlier this year as gas was pouring out the overflow tube. But it "fixed" itself when I tapped on the carb body with the handle of a screwdriver (I was on the side of the road at the time). Again...dosed with seafoam and it seemed to be OK for quite a while. Now I'm smelling gas (no overflow) and the idle usually but not always wants to hang up around 2500 rpm. What messes me up is that occasionally it is just fine! (900-1000) I"m finding I don't need any choke to start it. I bought a 2nd carb rack (minus diaphragms and sliders) and I have diaphragms and the basic VMAX ebay carb kit. Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions. Even changing out the carb rack would be a major undertaking for my wrenching comfort level so I'd like to wait for off season to do that.
12. I have just completed the test ride after the installation of my aux. fuel tank. All went perfect. Not a problem in sight...or hidden. Of course, I have done this a time or two before, as I have installed aux. fuel tanks on 11 previous bikes, so I kind of have experience doing this. However...this was my first time on a RSTD, so there is always something new...or things to learn. We all know about the stock tank...nothing new there. And if the bike is ridden at a steady and quick pace, it can consume fuel a little faster than I want to have to stop. Therefore...add aux. fuel. The tank I bought is the 5 gallon tank from Tour Tanks. Here is the link to their site: http://www.tourtank.com/TourTanks.html I am 100 % happy with the product, and the additional hardware kit that needs to be bought along with the tank. Everyhting is top notch, no junk here. As you can see by the pictures, I ride a solo bike. In place of the rear seat is a leather rear fender bib, and on top of that is the Yamaha rear fender rack (in place of the rear seat. On top of that rack...I mount a 10" x 18" aluminum rack I got from Aerostich. Then I mounted the Saddlemen bag onto that aluminum rack. All of the leather(fake leather) bag and aluminum rack are through bolted to the yamaha rear fender rack, with 3/8" u-bolts (4 of them) so it is very solid. Then the Tour Tank slides down into the Saddlemen bag...with an extremely snug/tight fit. There is no way that fuel tank is coming out of that Saddlemen bag unless three of us tug with all of our might. The vent hose up next to the filler cap is routed up over the top and far edge of the tank, then down to one of the side pockets of the Saddlemen bag, where I have hidden a catch tank, with secondary vent to the outside of the catch tank. The red petcock on the left side of the solo seat, attached to the yamaha chrome seat rail, works perfectly. I routed the fuel hose to a brass T-fitting that is spliced into the OEM fuel line about 4 inches above where the fuel filter is. The tank I chose from Tour Tank is tank design # 2, meaning it has two exit bungs at the bottom of the tank, one at either end of the bottom of the tank, so that all fuel is drained from the tank, despite cornering. I filled the tank with 2 gallons, filled my regular fuel tank up all the way, then went for a ride. I started out using only the aux. fuel tank, with the main tank turned off at the OEM petcock. The fuel from the aux. tank flowed perfectly, and after 82.7 miles I had used up the two gallongs I put in the aux. fuel tank, and had to switch fuel petcocks on the fly. Simply turned off the aux. fuel tank, and turned on the main fuel petcock, and after a moments hesitation, fuel was flowing again, and zoom... This additional 5 gallon fuel tank "could" give me a total capacity of 10.3 gallons, however I will not fill the aux. fuel tank up all the way, so the max I will put in it is 4 gallons...just to be safe. Even with that additional 4 gallons, I now have a very useable 8.5 gallons, without any concerns for running low. With that capacity, I can run...at speed...for 350 to 400 miles. That is what I am used to, and this will now satisfy my need to go as far as I want to. Take a look at the pictures. If you have any questions, let me know. And to answer the one burning question...my wife rides her own bikes...all set up as solo seat bikes, so I don't need to carry a passenger. Want to give your wife or girlfriend the greatest gift you can...give them the gift of empowerment, by having them ride their own bikes.
13. So what do you all think. Will this pass? What do those who pull a trailer do when the cooler rack blocks the plate. I know I could drill holes in back of the cooler rack, and put the plate there.
14. My ride from Seattle to Las Vegas is on. Needs some suggestions. 1) What bag fits nice on the rear trunk rack, and from the reads I found that 10 lbs is the recommended limit. 2) What bag fits nice on the passenger seat being that I'm riding single. I need this bag to fold flat so I can store it in the rear trunk for my wife will be traveling with me on the return ride from Las Vegas to Vacaville.
15. Anybody have a usable luggage Rack for 89 Trunk. ? Does not have to be perfect. Just need something that will work , Anybody know anything about the JC whitney offering for luggage racks.? Or information on any other good supply source would be appreciated.
16. Could someone post a picture of their MKII Tank Rack. I'd like to see what it looks like to see if I might want one someday. Also any undesirable opinions of it would be helpful.
17. Last fall I posted a want ad for some old used floorboards so between here and the star touring forum I got a pair of them. My first brackets did not turn out like I wanted but this one will do until I get the other one done. Thanks to 99 Silver for being so nice. 18. I just bought an 88 Venture,it was a basket case electrically,I have almost everything working now,but I gat an E6 on the air ride screen, any suggestions on where to start looking for the problem.I have removed the rear luggage rack and have ready access to the air componets, any help would be greatly appreciated, also you guys have a great forum here, glad to be a part of it.
19. OK guys, no laughing but a little serious help. The wife wants the backrest she sees on the grandpa bikes aka the Venture package. I am considering adding a DMY trunk with backrest which brings us a few problems, namely no rack on which to mount one. The RSTC only has a sissy bar rack that is tilted at the end and really doesn't do it for me. My idea is to get the longer sissy bar (the round one that is a stock accessory) and have it bent. Don't care if it messes up the bar as it won't show anyway, if I have to add a flat piece of stock no big deal, but I think it will make a pretty solid platform. No crap about getting the real ride as I have had this bike for 17 years and since it is virtually the same machine I don't need the intercom or the CB or the big out front fairing. I like it the way it is but gotta please the little woman, as I have kept her a tad longer than the bike. (29 yrs) I know I am asking for it...so go for it!
20. I am not near my bike right now, but I have a computer!! Does anyone know the diameter of the bars on the luggage rack that goes on the trunk lid of a 2nd gen? Thanks
21. The old chrome tubular solo rack, pn STR-4NK51-20-00, has been discontinued and there are none for sale on ebay...I have a saved search there though. Couldn't find any on Phat or CustomCruiser Wondering if anyone knows of a part similar for sale? I see some flat steel, eagles and such, but really want the chrome tube fender rack. Looking for the Solo seat rail too....just like these: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=67598
22. I have purchased an older model Escapade Classic Trailer and want to make a cooler rack to install on the chrome trailer tongue. California Side Car who makes this trailer, offers one for the trailer, but I would like to use my own cooler and thus have to make my own rack. Their package is made for their cooler. I did purchase the chrome mounting brackets from them for their cooler package as they sold them separately, but have not seen how to use them to make a rack. It is not self-explanatory (LOL).. If you have an Escapade Trailer with the cooler rack, would you take a couple of pictures of the rack so that I will know how to start making my own... Another reason I didn't buy their package, was the color of the cooler cover. It won't match my bike (2000MM RSV Pearl/Sand). Thanks in advance for your time... BTW: You can email them to me if you don't want to post them on this site... (anelson43@aol.com)
23. I counted the tines and looked at how heavy they were. Surely a Rack for the wall no matter what. About that time he jumped up and took off! I think next time I'll use a gun instead of the Ranger!!:bang head: It was a Rack to remember. Probally dead somewhere!!! Shame and fender, hood, headlight and parking light probally cost more than the meat was worth. I do think I would have mounted that one and invented a good lie!! It was a beautiful rack!! I think the old man that lived close was going looking.
24. I've been thinking of how to use the approx 1 inch square SS bathroom towel rack tube for my rear light bar. I have 3 Custom Dynamic LED lights. 2 amber directioinal and 1 sequental (Back and forth) stop. Each are about 3/4 inch in with and 4 to 5 inches in length. I'd like input into drilling into the chrome trunk rack. That is from the rear of the VR looking at the back end of the chrome rack, just underneath the bottom of the trunk. I'm mainly concerned with the possibility of the chrome pealing off. I could drill three holes, one near each end and one in the middle of the towel rack and corresponding holes into the chrome trunk rack. The hole in the towel rack would need to be just large enough to put a SS screw and a screwdriver into it. With the SS towel rack mounted, I would then from the bottom of the towel rack and in the center drill another hole to accommodate 6 wires for the LED lights to be routed out of the towel rack and connected to the VR under the seat. The LED wires are about the size of telephone wires. I could feed the wires for each light in through the 3 outside holes and the three LED lights have double sided 3M tape. Each light would then mount centered covering the holes. I could not find any square plastic plugs to put into the ends, but did find some round ones. I'm pretty sure I can make it fit. The circular cap covers the end except the oh so small part of the 4 square corners, of which I have some black silicone glue. Maybe I could put some sort of metal bonding waterproof glue to keep moisture from getting under the chrome where the hole is drilled. Have any suggestions? Also I'm wondering about the drilling process into the chrome trunk rack. That is how to prevent pealing during the drilling process. I know that the location is ok, further back would be a little better, however the rear part of the trunk rack does jet out from the rear trunk bolt location and the 1 inch towel rack does bring it out that much farther. Then the observers behind me are a good distance away so it would be pretty much eye level. The turn signals providing directional signals are very eye catching and the stop lamp will be like the Sequential light like in the show Knight Rider. The center red light will sequential back and forth when the brakes are applied. All the light movements are very eye catchy and hard to ignore. The movements of the lights seems to draw the eye balls.
25. I need help finding replacements for the four hard rubber round washers that mount between the luggage rack and the trunk lid on an 08 RSV. I removed the rack to do some power polishing and the washers seemed to have grown legs and walked away. I have checked every local hardware store and those they have are either too small/large, or wrong strength and curl up on edges when tightened. Local dealer says I will most likely have to order another rack just to get the washers. I don't think so! Any help is greatly appreciated.
