[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN3MFLwlsEg&feature=player_embedded]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN3MFLwlsEg&feature=player_embedded[/ame] One of the oldest and most respected motorcycle races in history has been the Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) race. The race is held on the Isle of Man and was part of the Motorcycle Grand Prix World Championships until safety concerns caused it’s removal from the series in 1977. To preserve the race’s status, the Isle of Man TT races became part of the TT Formula 1 Championship from 1977 to 1990. From that point on the Isle of Man Department of Tourism conducts the race as part of the Isle of Man TT Festival. The race started in 1907 and has always been a time trial format on public roads. Between 1907 and 2009 (at the end of 2009 TT races period) there have been 237 deaths during official practices or races on the Snaefell Mountain Course.

OK...I finally got a few minutes tonight to see about putting my bike back together as a refresher....1988 VR, replacing the steering bearings. So...I put the bearing races and triple tree in the freezer to "shrink" them Races went into the neck just fine! I was told to put the bearings in the oven at about 200' or so to expand them, then tap them on with some PVC pipe. Question....how to I pack the bearings? Before the heat...they'll just melt the grease out of the bearings and make a mess. After the heat?...Still, will the grease not just heat up and run out? And by the time I pack them...will they not cool off too much?

I posted this up in meet and eats and here to see what happens. 9147.1 http://www.barbermuseum.org/admission.php thought i'd post this up and see if any out there wants to come over to barber's and have a little fun on oct 7th, 8th, or 9th. if so i'll look around for a motel with a good rate and post it up for ya'll. i hope to camp out at lest 1 night with my grandson and watch a few races and wander around and look at all the folk at the swap meet. it's gotten pretty big now with several thousand bikes and all kinds of parts. i found a venture owners manual last yr and got it for $3. let me know soon, i'll try to set up a place to meet and eat some good food too.

Need some proper info on tightening the steering nut such as torque specs, procedures, etc. I installed new races and bearings top and bottom. Im attempting to install the tree and, following the shop manuals tightening procedures, it just seems to be a bit off. It calls for tightening the nuts to 37 ft lbs but when I tried that it tightened up well before it even would have clicked, which it didnt. The whole tree was way too stiff and hard to turn. Now, just to clear stuff up: the races are fully seated, bearings are fully greased with Honda Moly 60 and im using the machined spacer that SkyDoc sold a while ago to replace the rubber "washer". So, any suggestions?

Id like to get in touch with someone here who actually replaced their bearings and races in the front fork. Its due for a repacking but I figure since the front end will be down I might as well go ahead and replace the bearings and races. A phone call will be better than going back and forth with e-mails, etc. Thanks....

On Sat 6/21 the AMA flat trackers will be at Mountain Raceway in Maryville TN.! This just happens to be a stones throw from the Tail of the Dragon! This looks to be a pretty big event. I am planning on riding up Sat afternoon, doing a lap at the Dragon, getting something to eat at Deals gap and heading over to the races. This is all "weather permitting" of course since they won't be racing if it rains. I will be leaving the Blue Ridge area around 3 pm. The races start at 7. That should give us time to run the Dragon and grab some grub before the races. Anyone interested? Here's a link to the event.-Jack http://www.mountainraceway.net/AMA_info.html

Got the frame cleaned off finally, got a couple of questions on the center stand bracing. To me, it looks like somebody has welded in triangular braces already. These welds, especially the one on the right side of frame (straight triangle, looks like left side, frame upside down), does not look like factory weld. Do I need to do additional bracing while I'm in here? No cracks are evident, will wait till I sand frame down (or get it sand-blasted) to check closer. Word of wisdom, as is evidenced at the kick-stand switch, leaking hydraulic fluid will eat the crap out of your paint job! Maybe I should just paint the frame w/ brake fluid to strip it! Next pic is again from the battery acid fumes due to no breather vent hose on the bike. Also noticed in the neck bearing races, looks like bearings have "set" themselves in one area. Should I replace the races and bearings as a set? Middle 2 shots-- my "wash-down" area (keeps me out of the doghouse-eh Dragonslayer?!) and the project I had before I got the Venture. Will get to it sometime! Thanks guys again, Dan Sorry the pics aren't that clear, still trying to learn this camera!
