  1. My late father-in-law had a First Gen a long while back - must have installed a CB. I just found the manual. It says, "Yamaha Accessories, CB Radio Kit for XVZ12. Installation Manual." The number at the bottom right corner is 59J-2B19Y-21. If anyone can use this they can have it. Just send me a personal email. If you don't hear back from me pretty quickly, don't give up. I leave for China and Thailand at the first of the week and won't be back stateside until mid-May. Lynn, Missionary Rider Vilonia, Arkansas
  2. Okay, I've done some research on this. I've been looking for a vacuum leak, tomorrow I'm going to pull the air box and look at the butterflies, the choke seems to be closing all the way with the lever positioned off. What I'm running into is that recently the idle has started increasing on its own as the engine warms up. It starts out at about 900-1000, and by the time it's warmed up in about 10 minutes, it's run up to about 2000 rpm. If I goose it quickly, there's no hesitation, and it'll come back down to about 1300 rpm, then ease its way back up to 2000. I don't have any tools to adjust the carb sync, but is there anything else I may be able check on my own? Thanks
  3. I had to bail out of work today, been having pain and discomfort under my ribcage. It has been going on for 3-4 days and getting worse, I didnt think it was my heart, I just had a stress test a couple of months ago and everything was fine, Dr. seems to believe its my gall bladder, sent me for an ultra sound. Dont have the results yet, but I hope they get back to me quickly, Every time if flares up it gets worse and last longer.......and I had a work day scheduled to work on the 83, we were gonna put the motor back in the frame and start putting her back in one piece, now it may be on hold for a little while.........sometimes life really SUCKS!!!!
  4. Breaking down today a first for my 20 yr old bike. I was able to use my smart phone to access this site for help but I had a hard time finding info. People are all different and have different way of describing their problem making it a little more challenging to locate relevant info. I'm proposing a webmd type symptom checker that would help assist individuals to quickly assess a situation and find relevant info to help their situation quickly. It might be something simple and get them up and running quickly. I'm willing to compile the info and various links to accomplish this for 1st gens unless you have something that accomplishes this already. Good idea? Bad idea?
  5. I'm having trouble getting access to a Dodge forum. I know many of you are experienced with other than Ventures/Yamaha. I have a 2005 Dakota, 4.7 V8, 4 wheel drive. Low mileage, under 30,000. My problem is with the power steering. When it is cold, the power steering is "stiff", difficult to turn the steering wheel. It is slow returning to center, I have to steer it back to center. I feels kind of "jumpy" with little surges of power assist. As it warms up, the problem diminishes, and eventually virtually disappears. In warm weather as the engine warms more quickly, the problem also goes away more quickly. I'm looking for suggestions as to what the problem may be. I have limited mechanical resources. I've thought of trying to change the fluid, but don't know how I would get all of the old fluid out of the system.
  6. My Daughter "Hope" aka 4Paws99...... My Geological Assistant .....and.... My Great Hunter.... It seemed just like Yesterday ( and she is 25 now ..Oh How Time Flies
  7. Yesterday while riding to my rally site, I noticed a pickup truck approaching fast in my mirror... He over took me quickly and before I knew it, the idiot threw a beer bottle out the window at me....It smashed about ten feet in front of me.. I swerved around it and my first reaction was to speed up to get his license no. THEN I REMEMBERED DOING JUST THAT ONCE BEFORE WHEN SOMEONE CUT ME OFF LAST YEAR THEN DECIDED TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES WHEN I GOT CLOSE..Fooled me once, but I learn quickly.....ps...guess what kind of stickers were plastered all over his truck.........
  8. I'm not familiar with Yamahas or Ventures at all, but I may be going to look at a used '84 royale within the next few days. It has about 60,000 miles on it. Is there somethings in general or specifically I should be looking for at this bike. I guess to me, the miles are ok, it's the age I would be worried about. How have these bikes held up overtime, what kind of maintenance should I expect to have to do, are parts NOS or aftermarket and accessories still available? Just not sure what to expect I guess, and don't want to end up with a money pit. A little history about me, started riding in the early 90's on a 800 Intruder, quickly went to a gl1500 aspencade that we loved. Had kids and sold it, & haven't ridden in about 10yrs. Just looking for something comfortable to ride to work and some touring with me and my wife on weekends. Thank you so much for your help, Dan.

  10. I took a little over 200 mile ride today. It was about 72º and I had just got my Elite III on the front. It was a bit nerve racking as I had several close calls. I rode down to Knoxville to meet my wife for a meal, who was coming home from a week with her sister in Birmingham, Al. I did not take the approximate 100 miles going down on the interstate as I took the old highway, which now is at least 60% four lane. I came upon about a dozen Goldwings that were riding about five mph slower than I was and when I passed them slowly in the left lane, for about the first three, I waved at them. I gave up and ended up passing all of them and not one single one of them would even turn their head and acknowledge me as I slowly passed. A few miles later I met about a dozen other bikers coming toward me when it was a two lane, and most all were Harleys and I think everyone waved. Go figure. I had two different women in SUV's change lanes in front of me, without using their signals, just as I was about to pass them. I had to brake quickly to keep them from hitting me. I almost ran into the back of a car that had come to a stop real quickly in the left lane because the person in front of him was turning left and did not pull fully out of the lane, even though he had plenty of room to do so. I had just moved over into the left lane to let a pickup truck merge, and had to cut very quickly back in front of him. Luckily, I had room there. When Laura pulled into the parking lot, her left signal light on her Maxima was gone and the panels that go from the front bumper to under the engine were almost dragging the ground. She had just run over a mattress box spring that someone had lost out on the interstate. It done a bit of damage to the car, but it could have been worse. But, overall it was a wonderful 72º day and all is well. RandyA
  11. Well, as some of you know I traded my 89 Honda Hawk in for a 88 Venture Royale about 2 weeks ago. The first weekend I got it I put about 400 miles on it and then parked it, planning on quickly completing a short list of changes. Well between learning more about the condition of the little do-dads on the bike, reading all the magnanimous ideas here and the internet, that short list quickly turned into 2 pages of 'things' to do... hehe.. *sigh* So... Since some of these are ideas already on here and some are my original ideas I thought I would post them all with pics to share. Some are finished and some I will be posting later as I complete them. So here we go!
  12. ON SOAPBOX What's it going to be like when the world runs out of oil. I think we're finding out very quickly. Affordable fuel for transportation is becoming extinct. I just drove buy my gas station and diesel was $4.85 per gallon. Regular is a little less than $4.00 per gallon. Crude is going for $134+ per barrel. The world is being held hostage by the 'haves'. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a 'have not', and can't afford to drive the truck any longer, and the suburban is sitting a lot. It runs the same to fill up the scoot as it did to fill up the family car a few years ago, and it's going to get worse. The big problem is a family doesn't fit on a scoot. The high cost of fuel is also costing us in other areas as well. Everything sold is going up in price. Shipping is quickly creeping up in cost. The US was considered the most powerfull nation on earth, and we're being brought to our knees by our dependence on affordable fuel. All this and wages are stagnant, and even if they weren't there's no way they could keep up with the increase in the cost of living. Our economy is in the dumpster. Have you noticed that there's no mention by the government about the cost of living lately? We used to hear about it all the time. I don't think they want to admit how bad it really is.... I pity the young family with a couple of kids surviving in this economic climate. I pity those who are retired and on a fixed income dealing with their monthly bills. I pity the business owners who are going out of business because they can no longer survive because everyone is stuffing any spare change into their gas tank. I'm not sure what the answers are.... I have my own opinions... but if we're going to survive as a country something needs to be done quickly. Sticking our head in the sand and waiting for the problem to go away just ain't going to get it... OFF SOAPBOX
  13. So, I will add it here. There used to be a little box where the rating column is now (same place where the paperclip is) for posts showing me what I was subscribed to (posted to). I do not see it anymore and I used to to quickly find posts that I wanted to keep up with. Has this moved to another place or not a part of this upgrade?
  14. OK folks....I hope that most of you have received your guardian bells now. I still have a few left and just wanted to make sure that everybody has them that wanted them. I may try to put some of them on Ebay if you are all covered. I'm sure that the rest will sell quickly and it will probably help a few others find our site also. So, PLEASE don't buy them if you don't want them but just wanted to give you an opportunity before I list them.
  15. Up here winter is approaching quickly , I put away my scoot yesterday Its amazing how quickly the Kms pile up. I purchased my new scoot 1988 Honda Super Magna in the middle of July and put on 8386 kms on it and the furthest distance I travelled was Lowell to Manitoulin Island Its a far cry from when I had my Venture when I averaged 40,000 km a season... Ohhh !! How I miss Touring among The Venturerider members
