Repeating a mod from previous bikes (and as posted a couple of times here), I wired in and mounted my garage door opener today. I put it on the plastic flange/cover just above the gas cap. Just wanted to share this mounting location in case people are looking for options other than mounting the button on the dash. There was plenty of room to stick the opener under there, the push button is pretty unobtrusive and I can get to it easily with either hand. Drilled a small hole in the opener case for wires which I soldered to the switch contacts of the opener. Drilled a 1/2" hole in the flange/cover to mount the push button switch from Radio Shack ($4). Popped everything back together, tightened up the two bolts and it's time to hit the road again. Pics below....

Hey, guys, the manual says to pull the R side faring to get to the relay, I don't see anything that looks like a relay. Can someone tell me where that crazy relay is located? When I push the starter button I hear a repeated clicking (solenoid ?), but starter doesn't do a thing. Battery tests out high side on green scale, after a 45 sec load test it is about 80% on green scale. Monday I went into work early to run some erronds, first 2 times it started like NEW, then it just clicked once and nothing, 4th time I tried to start it, I had to push. Last 2 times it pulled the volt meter down to O, even without hitting the starter button, the meter stayed on O ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I don't get off work again until next Thursday so may not reply till weekend or Thurs. Thankx, Gary C

I wanted to add a couple of new switches, but I wanted the switches to be accessible by my thumb without moving my hand. Two push button switches. 1) for my Walmart special 55 watt really small lights that I hooked to the mirror brackets. This to get the attention of whom ever I feel the need to see me. Its a push switch. Push it, it is on. Let it go, it is off. 2) I plan on adding on a couple of rear white LEDS, with same kind of switch.

well after all that.s been going on in my life this year with 3 deaths. and such and not able to ride and selling the old 1984 .im going in tomorrow to get this left knee replacement done. i know there is a lot of work to do to get the new knee up to snuff. lots of PT and i will end up in a place for 2 weeks after the operation. to help push me along. then im going to push the PT as much as i can stand. i have put away 3 grand for the purchase of a bike for next summer.im not going to go with a first gen as i just cant handle that big boy no more. thinking a vstar? not sure what size? and if i can snag one for that price? i did see a nice one for $2800 and i should have snapped on that one.1100cc and had 24000 miles but my daughter said to wait as she knew i would have taken that bike out before this operation. and either mess up my old knee or the new to me bike/ dang kids where they learn to be so smart? anyways asking for a little prayer that all goes well. and with luck and hard work i might be on the road again next summer. bike wise. sincerly oldgoat

I am a brand new rider and just got my first bike. While learning how to ride at a relatively slow speed, I dropped my bike on the left side (into grass). Nothing appears to be broken on visual inspection, however I can't even push the bike when it is in neutral. Does anyone have any ideas as to why I can't push the bike in neutral? It shifts into first and neutral but not into 2nd or above. I am more concerned why the wheels appear to be locked up even in neutral. Feedback is appreciated

I need some help with my latest project. I have purchased two new Nolan N-com helmets, and installed the J&M 279 speaker/mic setup. I have never used a setup like this, but I expected to be able to listen to the stereo, and then, when I wanted to talk to the passenger, (or the passenger wanted to talk to me) push the push to talk button (which I thought would cut the stereo) and talk on the Intercom. However, when everything is plugged in and turned on, the stereo plays fine, but the intercom is also on all the time. The stereo does not "mute" (maybe it isn't supposed to?). Pushing either push to talk button has no effect. We can both talk over the music and hear each other. But, since the intercom is on all the time, the mic also picks up motor and wind noise and transmits it through the intercom, making the intercom useless while driving. HYPOTHESIS: I am guessing that one of the push to talk buttons is shorted out, or one of the intercom button wires is shorted somewhere. I'm also guessing that the intercom buttons close the circuit that should be open except when the button is pushed??? If the circuit is close all the time and the button opens the circuit, then something could just be unplugged. Please tell me how the intercom is supposed to work. Is it supposed to cut the stereo when the push to talk button is pushed, or is it supposed to work in the background of the music. Do you think there is a short somewhere, and if so, is there a common place that this would occur; where should I start looking? Thanks, in advance. dana

Hi. My linked brakes have been weird for a while. I posted how I found the rear caliper worn and grooved which hung up one end of the pads, and I figured I had found it. I fixed that (write-up to come) and the linked brakes are better, but... When I first push the pedal, the brakes work pretty well and the pedal is pretty firm. But if I let up a little (maybe 1/8"?) and push again, as sometimes happens when you stop gradually, the pedal drops considerably, sometimes all the way down and I get very little braking until I let the pedal all the way up and push it again. This "resets" them and they work fine again. I don't think this sounds like air in the system as that should always cause a squishy pedal that gets a little firmer with pumping. That's not what's happening. I'm thinking a bad master cylinder - do you agree? I don't understand the metering and proportioning valves very well, so I dunno if one of those could be the culprit. FYI, I thoroughly bled the system with a Mity Vac at the rear, front and metering valve locations. Help! Thanks, Jeremy

Replaced a burned out passing lamp on my RSV and now both lamps are not working. Put a voltmeter to the lamp connections and there is nothing so it must be a fuse (I hope!!!). Now the fun part. It looks like a dealer installation, but all other systems (At least those I can check.) are working. I thought it might be connected through the fuse for the accessory terminal under the seat so I tried to check that fuse. And here is where I have a problem. The owner's manual says to remove the upper and lower screws at the front of the right side cowling and "pull outwards" on the bottom to remove the cowling. However...mine seemed stuck and when I looked closely, it seemed that the screw on the housing at the back of the cowling was also holding the cowling. As well, the quick connect fastener on the lower part of the cowling is at the bottom and doesn't look like the push on type. It looks like the type that you have to push or screw in at the center to get it to release. Have I badly misread the instructions or are things not quite as described in the manual?

Ok I have a very odd problem. It is not so much a problem as it is a nuisance. If I use the kil switch ti shut off the engine then when I want to start the bike up I have to 1) turn the switch to run 2) push the starter button 3) turn the kill switch off then on again and then start it. If I just flip it on then off then on again then I will be push starting. I have to try to start it before turning it of then back on. Any ideas? It is like some possessed anti theft or something. Hello everyone. Hope someone would please help me with a Radio/Intercom problem I'm having on My 1988 Venture Royale ?. I have owned this Venture for 10 years with no Audio problems untill now. The headset push button on the Amplifier Controller Function, just below the Radio, will not turn off the Intercom ( green light stays on all the time ) and only plays Music or CB through the headset. I can not get Music or CB Audio to play through the Speakers. Sprayed a little contact cleaner into the push button, but did not help, also checked the mute and other buttons with no help for this problem. Has anyone ever had this problem? Please help Me with any suggestions You may have. Thanks, Russ

Riding in the tail of a group tonight and not watching my gauges. Radio started cutting out. Then at a stop the bike completely died. Turns out the connector between the regulator/rectifier and harness had melted apart. Fortunately some digging pieces out of the molten nylon with a pocket knife and a bit of electrical tape got it patched up. A push start later and I was rolling. In hindsight it's kind of obvious this one needs to be cleaned and tightened just like the stator plug.........

Well, we have the didg now. Alan has started watching the DVD and doing the exercises to strengthen his cheek muscles So, puff up your cheeks full of air, then slowly push it out through a small hole in the lips [as if your are whistling] Push out under pressure...your cheeks will ache as if you have laughed too much. Maybe practise using the vaccuum cleaner hose :rotf::rotf:

This thread might get moved and if so I apologize in advance. I bought my 2004 Midnight RSV in November of 2010. I have done considerable work to it just to get it where I want it to be. However that being said, the small, black push to talk button that is on the passengers intercom control is missing. I have no idea where to look to get a replacement. The PTT still works, it's just the button that is missing. If anyone knows where I can get one, has a part number or even may have a spare one sitting unbeknownst in a junk draw or jar hanging in there garage somewhere I would pay you for it along with the shipping. Thank you in advance Chris in Red Deer, Alberta
