Replacing Front Wheel Bearings
ragtop69gs posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Putting a new 150/80-16 Venom on the front and I feel a tight spot on both wheel bearings. I am going to replace them. I have 2 questions. A search here did not help me much. (1) How do you get the bearings out ? With the inner spacer I see no way to use a standard bearing puller or a drift punch to knock em out, no lip to drive them out. (2) Sourcing the bearing and seal? Yamaha part or from a bearing supply ? Aftermarket part numbers? -
I've got a question for those that have had their stators jump off the crankshaft when they've left the puller on overnight. When I started to pull mine, I loosened the attachment bolt several turns, then attached my puller with 100mm long bolts. I don't see how it could jump off--it still has the attachment bolt that'll stop it in 1/8" or so. You would have to remove the bolt completely for it to jump off, but what would you push on?? Of coures as of this morning when I left for work mine still hadn't come loose. Am I missing something?? Also, what is special about the PCW Racing puller that make it cost so much?? It says that it's guaranteed to pull the rotor first try. The only difference I see is that the bolts that you screw into the rotor have that piece on them that keeps them straight. Frank

Attempting to change my starter clutch however, the flywheel won't budge. OK so, I took the centre flywheel bolt out and inserted the puller's pointy end into the cavity below the washers, so I surmise (hope) I have it against the end of the main shaft. I have the puller tightened up pretty good. I am applying heat with a 1200 watt electric paint stripping heat gun, whacking the f/w with a mallet but it isn't shifting. To tighten the puller, I am levering with a steel bar about 24 inches long in one hand and a piece of iron pipe extending the wrench handle out to about 15 inches in the other. I have pushed this combo till its just about as tight as I can get it, so the puller is pretty tight. I have been playing the heat into the centre of the f/w trying to be even with it around the f/w. Any thing else I need to know? Is 1200 Watts enough heat, or should I break out the flame? Thanks, Brian H.

Ok so I have decided that its finally time to do my starter clutch. I've lived with it slipping & clattering for several years, but now its just causing too much 'will it start' anxiety these days when ever I go anywhere. I'll probably end up doing it my self. I did my stator coil last year so I know my what into the fly wheel. My question is, do I need a special puller tool to get the flywheel off? I have a big puller that seems to be up to the job but I am worried that the hook ends on it might not fit between the fly wheel and the starter clutch gear. Is a special tool needed or recommended for the pulling of the fly wheel, or is a common garden variety puller likely to be useable? Thanks, Brian H. Uxbrige Ont
