I am checking the valves on my 96 Royal Star and have 5 shims that need to be changed. There are 2 local dealers who will swap shims but I need the tool for depressing the valves. Does anyone in Canada have one that is available for loan if I pay the shipping? I read in a previous post that Mother from Toronto had a kit that could be circulated but I have not been able to reach him. I live in Oshawa, Ontario. Thanks Doug

Are there any radio knobs available? Or is there a suitable sub? Knob was missing when I bought the bike. The previous owner said someone liberated it from the bike one day.

First time posting. Been lurking a while. I just bought a 99 Venture. The previous owner removed the CB and stereo. The speakers have been changed to Clarion and there are wires run to the right saddlebag for a stereo. I really would like intercom, CB, and FM radio. What are my options? I have a JM 2003 intercom/cb system I bought for a previous bike and didn't use. It has a Harley bracket on it and no headsets. The wiring harness and antenna are there, though. Looking for a reasonably priced solution. Originally thought I could pick up the parts to restore the bike to original condition, but people think they are made of gold.

Anybody here have any experience with r1150gs or r1200gs? I'm thinking about buying one just wondering what owners or previous owners think about them.

Where can one find a shim set for a 85 royale, I have the tool and a couple of shims the previous owner gave me but would like the kit. Thanks

Does anyone recognize what brand this hitch may be? Anyone know where I might find a replacement lens for the flap light and some install instructions? It came off a 88 VR and I am installing on my 90 VR. These pictures were taken by the previous owner.

I would like to have the Black VR Banner at Tail of the Dragon V @ Vogel, but I dont know who has it. I was hoping whoever has it would be coming to Vogel, but it sure would be a great asset to Vogel by any means possible. It has been at all the previous Vogel's it really stands out for everyone to see. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Hi I recently bought a new trunk and it came without lock or fittings. I was checking Pinwall on Ebay but cannot figure out what pieces i need to buy in order to finish my trunk. I was wondering if anyone had some pic's of the inside of their trunk that they could share? It would help me visualise what I need to buy. The previous owner had a complete set of Givi luggage installed and I would like to replace those. I hope someone can help me regards Eddie in sunnybutbroke Ireland

I recently purchased a 1986 Yamaha Venture, and am looking for a couple of things that it lacks from my previous Wing. Driver floorboards for one (with the heel / toe shifter) and a set of arm rests (folding if available) for the wife's seat. I've seen pics of bikes that have the boards, but am unable to locate any information on them. Granted, 25 years is too long for folks like Markland to keep stuff on their shelves, but if anyone has ANY information on MFG.'s or where to look, I'd appreciate it. A couple of other things I want to ask but hesitate since they will make me look REAL stupid. the cover on the left side of the fairing, over the radio, is that supposed to slide? Also, the previous owner has a baggie full of "intercom" equipment that is to be placed in our helmets. He never used them, and has no clue on how they work. Owners manual is also wrecked (ALL the pages are stuck together!) and I'm having no luck finding one on the web either. Any help will be appreciated! Tom Plaska

Got a new to me 06 venture with 29K miles for 9K$...very pretty and have been enjoying riding around this week..the only glitch so far is that sometimes the audio controls freeze up and I can't do anything with it...turning the ignition off and back on sometimes helps, most of the time not...then, for no apparent reason, it works normally again....any ideas?...thanks to all, Mick....previous bike was a 91 wing....

I see ads all the time where there are a lot of Harleys for sale. My curiosity wants to know why. This will apply to PREVIOUS HARLEY OWNERS ONLY!! I don't want second hand info either. I don't want to know about the guy down the street or someone's brother-in-law who may have owned one. I think it would be interesting as to why people give up their Harleys. Is it because of money problems, the bike itself, service, maybe it was because of a death in the family, or whatever else? So, if you have previously owned a Harley and given it up for something else, tell us why. Personally, I've never owned one so this does not apply to me. We all have opinions, but to hear from the actual previous owners is the purpose of this survey. Above all else, THIS IS NOT ANOTHER HARLEY BASHING SESSION!!!!!!! If it turns to that , I'll ask Freebird to take it down!!!

thinking i had messed something up after changing the rear tire and having shifting trouble, i went through the suggestions in the previous thread. man, where does that oil go. last thing checked was the crankcase oil level and it was 1/2 down - and getting dark. what a drag. i was having such fun and then 2000 plus miles roll around and my shifter has to tell me it is time for an oil change. doesn't seem like that long ago i checked the oil and it was fine. I started out spoiled as the previous owner had done all the PM and all i had to do was get on and go. i called him today and asked what oil was in the machine so i could stay the course since i have no whine or chirp. He used Yama lube and 4 ounces of Lucas additive. so off tomorrow i go to round up some stuff to change the oil. I want to thank those of you who gave me suggestions to trouble shoot and i was sooo glad it was an oil change and not something else. anyone use an oil additive? if so, what kind? what a way to start the new year. i am glad i have the time off to take care of this.

I've replaced the 07 RSV I wrecked a month ago. ABS was a must this time around since wrecking in the rain which meant another RSV was out of the question. Maybe in the future Yammie will finally update the Venture and I will be back on one but for now this bike will have to do. It's a 2006. I do still have my '97 RSTC so I'm not completely out of Royal Stars. Here is a pic I stole from the previous owner.-Jack http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b152/bigjack1/wing/wing.jpg

I was one of the first to jump on Condor's MAC muffler offer a few weeks ago. They arrived safe & sound & looked awesome in the box. I had to wait for the never-ending rains to finally move through, and MacGyver some impromptu gaskets as the previous owner (or at least one of the 5 previous owners) had used a metal reinfoced muffler tape in place of proper gaskets. I happened to mention that in my thanks to Condor, via a PM, and lo and behold, the man sends me gaskets ! From California all the way to Ontario ! Thanks again, Jack. I got them today, and had them installed in less than 20 minutes. I think they look world's better than the original stockers I had as they were a little beat up. Worse, they were full of deteriorated baffle pieces and sloshed like 30 pound maracas. The new MAC's sound incredible - it's actually a motorcycle now ! Not obnoxious, but a definite rumble, and I really, really like it. So, the prerequisite pics : I apologize if the quality isn't the greatest - I used a new software package tonight to resize these, and I think the sharpness degraded quite a bit. The first pic is the bike (obviously) with my other new baby, 2009 Dodge Ram Crew Cab 4x4 with the 390 HP 5.7L Hemi (very fun). The second shows a better pic of the muffler. Please ignore the big hack on the bikini panel on the right side of the bike as I am still burning about that (search threads using "pine cone"). Best of all, we finally have a week here that is 100% sunshine. It's just real cold in the morning (about 42 degrees F this morning), but that sure doesn't stop me. Thanks again, Jack !

I am removing the Baron Lowering kit caliper relocation bracket but I need a stock one to replace it with. Anybody got one laying around that they would part with? The previous owner doesn't have it. He had removed the lowering links already and now all I need is to change out the bracket.

My RSV is the first bike I've had that has a windshield and I'm constantly smelling/breathing exhaust fumes, pretty much at any speed. My wife days she can't smell anything from the back seat. I have an aftermarket shield that kinda slopes more vertically toward the top. The previous owner installed a Goldwing vent in it, presumably 'cause he was experiencing the same issue. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

Last July the Federal rear CT with WWs was mounted. It has around 7000 miles on it so far. Today the Avon MT90HB-16 WW rear tire was mounted backwards on the front rim. The tread depth at the middle of the tire is .325". I'll be interested to see how many miles I get out of this tire. I got almost 23,000 miles out of my previous Avon front tire of the same size, and this tire has more rubber on it. Best of all, the new tire's WW width is 1 5/8" where the previous front tire's WW width was 1 1/4". I like WWs.

Just bought some Dunlop Elite 3 tires and man what a difference. In the past I was skeptical when people say they switch tires and have a different riding experience with the new tires. I figure, tires are tires, shouldn't feel any difference between the different brands. I didn't feel the difference between Dunlop 404's and Metzelers on my previous bike. Well I am skeptical no more. The Elite 3's help the bike be very responsive. Since I have been used to the Metzelers (previous tires on the bike) I have to be careful at times. I am not used to the new tires yet and what I consider improved handling.

Thanks for all the great suggestions folks. Can anyone tell me if the carb sync is covered by the warranty on these bikes. I'm relatively new to the venture world. I traded for this '05 RSVM in August. I traded an '03 Valkyrie for it and my previous ride before the Valk was an '01 Magna. Neither of them had vibration in the rear seat and the wife loved both.

Squidley gave me the idea to post this here so here goes. First of all this is to Riders out of Michigan. Last may i bought my 85 Venture Royale from a couple up in Muskegon. They only had the bike 8 months and never rode it much. they wanted and bought a Wing instead. The bike is Brown and Gold and came with a trailer hitch. The trunk on the bike was cracked in the bottom and repaired with fiberglass. The bike only has 35k on it and seems to have fairly well taken care of . It also has a sticker inside the trunk saying that the bike climbed Mt. Washington. The last six digits on the registration are 000110. I was wondering if anyone here may have owned the bike or knows someone that may have. I love the bike it runs great and any information from previous owners would only help to better know the history of this bike. I hope to hear from someone out there. PJ.

Clutch question? Slipping or catching? Vibration?
Guest posted a topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a 2000 RSV and have noticed that when doing my low speed maneuvers I can slip the clutch to a certain point then it suddenly grabs. Is this a spring issue or time to replace clutch plates? It seems to grab more when it is hot vs. when it is colder. I have also noticed when I am at50-60 mph and trying to accelerate I get a lot of what feels like chatter. Maybe it is just a lack of torque, but in order to get any acceleration I have to shift down. The chatter or vibration is so bad it shakes the entire bike. I am thinking about doing a Barnett clutch and springs just to "fix" something, but thought I would check with the experts first. The bike has 30k on it and the previous owner did have a trailer hitch installed on it. Not sure how much abuse it got, but until I got it the bottoms of the floorboards were virgin. I am guessing I work the clutch more doing tight maneuvers than the previous owner would have done pulling a trailer.
