I just ordered a couple things from Bikebandit and noticed they are offering a 10% discount on some items if you have a Dairyland insurance policy, or get an insurance quote while logged in to BikeBandit. It seemed to work. I entered my policy which I bought thru member eddidy and got the discount on my order.

Ok so while making the list of stuff we are taking on this ride I see the $$$ of the electronics we will have on board. The Zumo 550 I just bought,netbook,ipad,2 high end cell phones and ipod is almost 2800.00 in "stuff". Yes I am a geek and I consider these things NEEDED. So I called to check our coverage to see if I needed to change anything and was informed that everything but the GPS would be on my renters policy and the gps would go on the bike policy. So 1000.00 in deductibles!?!?! Remind me again why we even bother to carry insurance? I wonder if this is just State Farm or is every company like that? Maybe it's time to change companies? Thoughts? I ride a great deal with groups (mixed bikes) with Coast Riders. I have noticed several riders who will have a beer (just one) at lunch time. There are a couple who will have more than one. I am thinking of suggesting that the Club adopt a strict "No alcohol while riding" policy. I am certainly not against drinking in the afternoon/evening when finished riding for the day. Also, I know we are all adults, and should be able to decide for ourselves whether or not a single beer would affect riding judgment. My concern is that somebody might drink more than they should. A pint of a stronger beer, is quite different from a can of American beer (sorry, couldn't resist). Also to be considered is the health, age, body size and several other factors that would affect the way a rider reacts to that "one drink". People can make their own decisions if they are riding on their own. But it seems to me that there is a greater risk when riding at some speed in a group, and when there is only one second between you and two other bikes. Yes, staggered formation... but that stagger doesn't make much difference when something happens quickly. Any of you belong to a Club with such a policy? Any thoughts or suggestions? Cheers!

To Progressive Insurance Customer Service Department. As a few of you may know, after 10 years on the RSV and waiting for Yama to make a move, I decided to take Snarley Bill up on his offer to sell his 2008 Goldwing. Before purchasing the Wing, I got an online quote from Progressive, my current carrier on the RSV which I thought was very reasonable. Yesterday, I went to see my insurance agent and gave him the info on the Wing. His price for the same coverage from Progressive was a little over $100 more than the online quote. I asked why and he couldn’t say (or wouldn’t) but suggested I call the Progressive Customer Service. So I did. I told Customer Service that I had purchased another bike and wanted to add it to my existing policy, thinking to take advantage of their multi-vehicle discount. After giving them the info, they gave me a price that was still about $30 more than the online quote. I asked why the difference, the rep asked for the quote number and put me on hold. In just a few minutes he was back and explained that my existing policy had renewed in February and they had a PRICE DECREASE in March. The online quote was based on the lower rates. Adding the Wing to my existing policy would put it at the old HIGHER rate. The rep suggested that we write a new policy for the Wing for the lower rate, then after the policy is established call them back and they would combine both bikes on the new policy. By doing this I am supposed to receive a refund from the old policy for the difference in rates (about $15), plus a refund for multi-vehicle policy. He also went through my policy and found another discount I was due and not receiving. Just a few bucks but every little bit helps. Progressive went the extra mile to save me every penny they could, they were fast, friendly, and in no hurry to get me off the phone and move on. I’ve not had to make a claim with them yet, but if their claim service is anything like their Customer Service, then they have a loyal customer for a long time.

I just got the figures from ICBC for my insurance coverage on the scoot and full coverage with $1,000 deductible and max discount will run me $2,038 for the full year. Not being satisfied with that, I did some poking around because I knew that somewhere I should be able to get private insurance beyond the basic ICBC 200,000 PL&PD. I found that I can get it from Coast Capital. Quote Summary: $455.00 ..... Annual Premium $12,500 ..... Declared value of the bike $500 ..... Declared value for riding gear $400 ..... Declared value for helmets $1 million Third party liability $1,000 ..... Deductible $40.57 ..... Monthly payment This is for Collision, Comprehensive, and 3rd party liability to 1 million. The policy also includes Travel Protection (if your bike is stolen or you are involved in accident away from home), Emergency Service Expense, and Lock Re-keying (if keys are stolen). Additionally, if you only insure with ICBC for 6 month's, the Coast Capital becomes a "storage policy" with the exception of the liability which would not apply once the ICBC policy expires. This is a substantial savings and I will definately be getting my extended insurance from them.

Its time to renew my motorcycle insurance policy with Progressive. I have Comprehensive and Collision on my RSTD and liability only on my Triumph and Suzuki. I am going to have to add a 4th bike later this month when I pick up the Millenium RSV I've bought. Progressives base/minimum price for liability only is $75. They are charging me the full $75 for 2nd and 3rd bikes, and I presume the 4th as well. Since I can only ride 1 machine at a time, and the policy doen't cover other riders, I feel there should be a substantial discount for insuring bikes 2, 3, 4, etc. But there's not. Do other US companies provide a better multi-bike discount ( I've seen the horrible charges our Canadian friends are paying..)

I called my insurance company today because I was trading in my 2003 Harley Ultra for a 2010 Ultra. When I tried to change over the coverage I was told that they are no longer writing motorcycle policies in Maryland and that I could use their "General Agent" for the new bike. I have had insurance with them (USAA) since 1972 and have always had a motorcycle on my auto policy. Their partner agency is Progressive and their price was not out of line with what I was paying when it was on my auto policy but now I have two different companies to deal with and pay premiums to. Has anyone else run into this with USAA?

I am sorry to report that as of June 1st, the discount from Motorcycle Superstore has been discontinued. I know that many of you had used it and hopefully there will be something else in place soon. Here is the notice that I received from them today. Hi Don, Due to the manufacturers MAP policy (minimum advertised price) we are no longer allowed to offer general group discounts. However, there are a few brands and exclusive items that are separate from the MAP policy. So yes, I will be sending you a new sort of code, but it will be item and/or specific, which unfortunately isn’t as enticing as a general coupon, but I will do my best to make the offer as enticing as possible. Unfortunately there will be a small delay, I apologize, but I will be in touch as soon as possible. Thank you for understanding.

Well...I know that many of you have been through this already but today I take my 16 year old son to get his driver's license. I have been online getting insurance quotes to add him to my policy. Needless to say, my insurance is going UP UP UP. From what I can see so far, it will triple now with him on the policy. I'm talking about the car of course, not the bike.
