well, between work and lack of available cash, I didn't get too much done on the 83 over the last couple of months. I DID, however, get all the parts, finally, that I need to fix the rear brakes, so that will be getting done as soon as I get home from the 2 stroke meet this coming week at Deals Gap. Anyway, my job as a cable guy has me running all over the county, so I see quite a few bikes and cars for sale. I was offered a 1985 Venture Royale for a very small sum. The bike has had part of the plastics removed for some electrical work. The plastics are in fantastic original condition, completely unlike mine. My question is, will all of the 85 venture Royale plastics fit on my 83 standard Venture? If so, the plastics are worth the asking price as it less than the cost just for the paint and bodywork on my 83. I'm not concened about the 83 not being the original color. The 85 is either a dark burgundy or dark brown...light wasn't great when I saw it. Thanks in advance, Jeff

So my wife works for a guy who produces golf training aids (orangewhiptrainer.com). They are trying to find a better way to adhere a rubber mat to a plastic shell. Seems to me there should be something out there which will create a permanent chemical bond other then glue. Anybody out there know anything about plastics? Btw, I'm asking on my own, not at the request of my wife or her boss. Thanks

Loctite Threadlockers and many plastics lead to very sad owners. With ABS plastics it slowly disintegrates the plastic which begins to crack, then crumble. Never EVER apply Loctite directly to plastic, and I strongly recommend you NEVER use it on any fastener that even passes through plastic and into a metal part. It is just not worth the potential grief. We report this information in various threads here every year, but inevitably we see sad stories from some people who just do not get the message. Goose

Is there any chemical that will strip the paint off these old plastics and not harm the plastic its self? If not, I have years of sanding to do.....

Well it took long enough but I have my new tall & wide & vented (and grey) Clearview windshield installed on the bike after waiting a month or so for the delivery.. Mind you, they notified me it was shipped and it showed up within the week here in Nova Scotia. What can I say about it? Damn thing is HUGE.. wow.. you don't realize how much plastic is going to be in front of you until you sit behind it lol.. there is NO looking over the top of this one if I can't see through it.. Wind: My head is no longer buffetted side to side with wind slaps to the side of the head as before. Since getting this bike, I've had to wear ear covers to protect my ears from the wind buffetting. But now it's all gone. My Radio Audio is turned down by 2 notches as there is less wind. However, I now notice more wind coming up my legs onto my lower face. My impression is that when it rains, my legs will be soaked instead of just my knees. Overall the wind situation is better, smoother and more ejoyable. Noise: you can hear better for sure, less wind... you can hear your engine and exhaust better. Visibility: I was quite impressed with the clarity of the plastics used. There is "some" distortion in the peripheral areas but you quickly adapt to those. I haven't tested it in the rain because though it's raining a lot these days, just not while I can go riding. Night time visibility is OK, no noticable difference. Cleaning: Always spray a lot of water on your plastics before rubbing anything on them to remove any grit.. I used poly polish and Plexus to clean it off, using a new microfibre cloth.. Plexus removes the static charge off the polycarbonates to repell dust and other light schtuffs.. Important to keep several clean cloths to avoid rubbing grit into the new plastics. I haven't used any RainX on it yet, haven't gone biking in the rain yet. Installation was a breeze, remember to leave the protective film over the windshield during installation. Two rubber seals fit under the wide wings on the ends. Over all? Though it's only been a day or two since I've gotten it and haven't yet ridden in the rain.. I find the price is right and thus far it lives up to it's expectations. More later as I get more ride time with it.. Cheers

fairing and plastics help?
woz111 posted a topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I've finally repaired most of the fairing and side plastics, they were in a hell of a state, some were snapped into 3 parts and one side had no tabs left to screw the sides onto. I managed to sort this out with a product called Plastex if anyone's interested. I bought it from here:- http://www.repairproducts.co.uk/page20.htm in the UK. I'm now trying to buy the screws and support clips (the metal clips that push onto the 3 fairing tabs each side) Anyone know where I can buy these from in the UK? I've looked in a few places but no luck yet, or will I have to buy them from Yamaha?file:///C:/Users/Warren/Desktop/04052008047.jpg -
Hi all. I want to fit the front fairings and plastics to my 1983 Yamaha XVZ1200 Venture Royal, to make sure every thing's there, where do I start and what screws rubber mountings do I need as I know I'm missing most, if not all the mounting screws etc, I've just got the fairings and plastic inserts. Thanks all.
