I just retired from full-time work and will leave San Antonio TX for Springfield IL...round trip of about 2500 miles. My question...how many miles can/should I REALISTICALLY plan on covering in a day? I've never taken a long trip on the RSV. I did ride from St. Louis to Wichita Falls TX back in 1977 on a Honda 450...but I was much younger then. I know many of you can ride a thousand miles in one day...I am 62 and I need to plan for what I really should try to cover. Thanks in advance for any input. Jim T

I plan on installing an aftermarket stereo. Looking for a how to for wiring it. My factory radio/cassette work fine, but only one speaker works and just doesn't have the sound quality I would like. I saw a 4x6 speaker install that I also plan on copying. My bike came with a blank that goes in place of the stereo which I plan on installing an aftermarket head unit in place of the stocker that I remove.

My rear tire lost a chunk approx 8 to 10" long today! My wife and I were on the interstate at approx 70ish when I felt her go! I pulled over right away and once my wife told me what was wrong, she rode home with a fellow rider and since it lost no air, I puttsed it home max 25mph for approx 10 miles. Now I don't know What to do. We plan on converting to a Trike this winter, so I don't want to buy a new tire, but I also don't want to stop riding for the year! I'd really like to get a used tire for next to nothing, just to ride the rest of the season. I know that an Angel was looking over us and kept the tire from blowing completely! We could've very easily have gone down. I plan to take a pic and email it to Dunlop, for wat it is worth. They are 2 years old with Im guessing 10K on them, so I'm sure Dunlop won't care, but I am going to send the Pic anyway. This should never happen. Craigr

Anybody have a good handle on when we could experience fall colors? We had an early spring. We had a hot summer. Not much rain this year, kind of dry around here So does all this effect the fall colors? We're seeing spots of color already here and there. Want to plan a ride,,, but when?

I put a deposit on a new 2010 demo bike some exec at victory had today so I'm selling my venture or going to trade her. I have loved this bike since I first seen it and it's either a love it or hate it bike. I have yet to talk to one person who has one that has a bad word to say about them. I still plan on getting on here when I can since I'm busy now that I have custody of the kids and getting them straightened out! But it's getting better!

I live in Georgia (gainesville area) and my brother who I have not seen in almost two years lives in Michigan. I got a text from him on the 4th saying to make surer I was off on Thursday and Friday because he would see me later that night. WOW! What a great surprise. Come to find out, he and his wife were on the bike and made the 780 mile trip down in one day. After mapping out some trips, and after some much needed rest, we set out for one heck of a great ride. We rode the blue ridge parkway, all around the foothills in Helen, GA and Blairsville Etc and made it all the way up to the Virginia line. The scenery was wonderful and since I have lived here for almost 11 years now, this was the first time I had ever riden with my brother. What an awesome time. Took many, many pics which I wll upload soon and I hope to be ridiong mine up to michigan in fall. Although, I don't think I'll plan to do it in one day. I of course was riding my '86 venture and he was on his '04 venture. We turned some heads and got penty of compliments when we stopped. just thought I'd share our good time. Maybe some of you guys are close here in Georgia and week and plan a meet and eat. Take care, Jay

I figured that I would come here and ask you folks a question as we have a lot of different knowledgeable people here. Lonna and I have cell phones through Walmart Family Mobile. They use towers from Tmobile for their service, but Tmobile doesn't let them use all their towers, only certain ones. At the new house here we have terrible reception, so bad to the point that we dont call out unless we absolutely have to. This is a huge pita as I know there are times I just want to grab the phone and chat with folks, some of them even from here :/ The thing that I like about the Walmart plan is, well, there isn't a plan, or a contract such as it is. I absolutely hate having to sign up for anything now these days and have a 2 year minimum requirement So my question to you folks is this, do they make some sort of antenna that will help me get better reception here at the house. AT&T has great reception here, but "Their" plan is another 2 year deal, and will cost me more money. What say you brethren, am I looking for a unicorn?

It seems like the 1.st gen front tyre has an odd dimension (for a front tyre): 120/90-18H 65H. I have a hard time finding a front tyre form my XVZ12 I plan to fit a Michelin CommanderII at the rear so what could be a suitable rubber in front?

I wasn't going to do a trip thread this time, since this is a lot like what I did last year, but Karen doesn't visit this site much, and needs to know where to look to find me. So here goes... Bike is already loaded. Planning to leave from work tomorrow afternoon and riding down to Rick Haywood and Shirley's for a little BS'n and maybe a few beers, and a place to crash. Wednesday's plan is to head south to Sparta, IL to visit an antique engine collector and then get near (but not into) Memphis for the night. Thursday's plan is a ride over to SW Arkansas and spend the night at Playboy's place. Friday's plan is to ride with Playboy to the SE TX MD at Kregerdoodle's and maybe stop and see another antique engine collection in Tatum, TX along the way. Planning to stay at the MD till Sunday morning. Then it's off to Luckenbach for Sunday afternoon music, probably ride around the hills Monday and spend another night in Luckenbach. (I really enjoyed Luckenbach last year, can ya tell ) Probably start heading back northerly on Tuesday morning, and wander my way back towards home the rest of the week. Maybe see you on the road, Scooter Bob

I'm looking real hard at the Wally World $45.00/month cell phone plan. I'm currently paying AT&T about $200.00/month, for 3 lines. I still have the "old" unlimited plan, but I hear they are beginning to FORCE us off of that plan, by throttling down the speed. 1st question is will it sync with an exchange server for email? Currently I use a 4YO Blackberry but have to pay AT&T extra a month for "Enterprise Activation" for connection to the company Exchange email server. 2nd, from the looks of it at Wally World there is only one "phone" for sale for the $45.00/month plan. Will other "phones" work on this service? (I really like my current BB! Yeah this old dog don't like new tricks!!!) 3rd, For those that are using this Wally World service, what do you think? How is the coverage?

I sent my bike to Florida this year with a friend who was taking his truck and trailer down with him to his winter home. It will be down there until April when he will bring it back, unless I ride it back. His home is in the Titusville area. We plan on flying down a couple of times through the winter, the first one being in early December for around 10 days. So I am hoping there are some Florida members or others who could offer some suggestions for routes and neat things to see (other than the normal Orlando stuff). We plan on doing the Florida Keys for sure and wonder whether following the Atlantic shoreline down would be worth it or if we should simply follow the Florida turnpike or I-95. We are also considering heading North towards Jacksonville and Savanah Ga and then over to Macon, Ga and back down. I always try to avoid interstates, so if anyone has any ideas for routes to and from these areas I would love to hear from them. Thanks JR

The bikes are soon going into cold storage. I read someplace that it is good to wash and dry the bike (dedicated to the bike leaf blower) and then use spray wax. You do not wipe it off. I plan on using Ice wax. Yeas or nays? Just to save the responses I also plan on an oil change and Seafoam or Stabil in the tank.

I turn 65 next month, and my current medical insurance policy terminates when I become medicare eligible on the first day of December (the month of my birthday). What a complicated lawyer and accountant sucking system this is. With the govt paying a significant part of my hospitalization and subsidizing out patient type care, my personal insurance costs are more than tripling from November to December. And there are plans, and parts, and copays, and deductibles and exceptions out the wazoo. I've spent a couple weeks trying to make sense of it all and have decided a lot of it will never make sense. Prices from one insurance company to the next vary a lot of $$$ I've had medical with the same HMO for 35 years, but my zipcode isn't in the table they gave to social security as being in their coverage area, never mind that they have a doctors office and major hospital only 20 minutes from my house. So after going round and round with them, the HMO will file an exception (of some kind) on my behalf so I can stay with them. I have to move into their Medicare Advantage HMO Plan at age 65 I did come real close to jumping ship and getting a medicare plan F supplement policy from an insurance company, it would be slightly more costly, but a bit more flexible than my HMO. But after 35 years with the same plan, I'd prefer to stay pat. And my HMO has their own pharmacy, so I wouldn't need a Medicare Plan D for pharmacy insurance. Dental insurance at age 65 goes up 50% even staying with the same company (nothing to do with medicare). My advice to those age 64, is start to read everything you can about the system instead of waiting until the last month like I did. and. try not to take this thread too political.

a group of us have decided to ride to Newfoundland next summer. There will be three couples on five bikes we plan to spend 6 or 7 days there, about three to get up to there and three back for about two weeks total. Are there ferry services at both ends of Route 1. what are the must see places, will we need to plan carefully to avoid running out of gas or are stations spaced reasonably close, last summer on a sunday morning we ended up running on fumes looking for a gas station (that was open) in the cape bretton area. In nova scotia we never bothered to make hotel reservations, we were able to ride untill something or someplace caught our eye and rooms were always availible. Can we expect the same in Newfoundland? Some Newfie want to plan our trip for us? Al

I currently own an 89 VR and am very happy with it. I really thought this VR would take me into the sunset for it only has 26,500 miles on it. Then I found a 91 VR with only 6700 miles from the origional owner. I just couldn't pass it up. So I purchased it and plan on transfering all my accessories from the 89 to the 91 and plan on selling the 89 probably spring of 2012 for it will take some time to move all the accessories over. But for the right reasons I could keep both VRs but then that would mean 2 licenses fee, 2 insurance, that is if I plan on riding both. But I do not see why for the 2 are the same bike. I do see many of you have multi MKIs or multi MKIIs, and so I'm courious as to the following questions: 1) Why do you have two of the same make and model and sometimes the same year. 2) What made you initially decide to pick up the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and so on VR. 3) Does all of your VRs acturally run Some answers could be the following 1) Have too much money 2) Picked up the other VR as a parts bike then decided to fix it up. 3) Because they are old and consider Collectables. 4) Only one of my VR runs all the others are parts bike. Please do not limit to the above reasons. Thanks

I got a truck with a 6 ft bed. Was thinking if I needed to haul one of these beasts it has about a 7 ft footprint. If I took a 8 ft 3/4 inch sheet of plywood and cut it to fit inside of bed could I load one of these things on it with the plywood sticking out over the tailgate without busting gate? Plan to fasten winch to front of plywood. Maybe run a band of 2x4s around perimeter of plywood and screw them down good?? I need sleep!!!
