I'm getting a little oily on the bottom of my speedo cable. What could be leaking from that? Any particular fix suggested? Here's a pic. http://db.tt/LkvwHh7f

Just noticed this morning that I have a small leak right under the engine...I haven't checked it out yet, but it feels like oil. How frequent is it for the newer bikes to spring a small oily leak. I am hoping it is either from the filter or the plug...just not tight enough. I will check out this evening. Wally

I just got my 83 a few weeks ago....after not riding for about 20 years....and I have already had an "experience" (sigh) I was in the middle of no-where going to do a job at a clinet's cottage ...puttin' along at VERY low speed on their laneway...turned a sharp corner and the front wheel washed right out on me...turns out it was soft sand under the grass! Thanks to soft sand and crash bars there was no damage (except my pride). ANYWAY....2 questions 1)is it possible for the clutch fluid to have leaked out while it was on it's side? It was on more than 45-50 degree angle for about 20 min (until I could get it up...is there viagra for heavy bikes?) After I got it upright, the clutch wasn't disengaging properly...checked the fluid when I got home and it was almost empty! Had to refill and bleed the system. 2) there is an oily residue on just one of the carbs, (I think on the intake side) is that an indication of blow by or something major? (rings, valve seals??)

I'm hoping someoene has an opinion. I have my 2007 venture in my garage and have been going over it so it is ready when the snow finally goes away. There are 4 hoses which appear to be vent hoses exiting just left of the rear shock pointing to the ground. The two that are cut at an angle have an oily residue coming out of them. Is this normal???. I followed the one hose up and it goes under the gas tank. I can take off the tank and follow it but wondered if the residue is in fact normal. The bike ran fine when I put it away. As always any opinions or help is always appreciated. Thanks Jim

OK, received a message from a member about using Pledge and Pam to deal with the (love bug) removal, and can`t get back in touch with him, as he is in East Texas on a ride, any way, I use Pledge on my bike, but what about and how or when do you use the Pam?? seams like it would make an oily mess.... Guess I should have taken some pics, but I'll try to describe what I saw. I had the gas tank off... replacing the handlebars and cables. There is an air box on each side on top of the carbs with a piece between the two with some foam between the pieces. The left side foam was oily with more oil toward the rear carb. I also noticed more oily dirt on the rear of the left box. I took the left side off to look inside. Both front and rear carbs looked the same. The rear might have had a little oily feel but if it did, it was not much. The box was more oily to the rear. I didn't see any oil up front, coming from the filter boxes. I keep my oil level about half-way up the site glass. My gas mileage has never been very good and has been worse the last few months. There are three vent tubes underneath on the left near where the center stand is mounted. Two are pretty heavy with oily dirt. One was venting a lot of gas fumes and an occasional drop of gas. Any guesses? I sure don't won't to put it in the shop.

Change the plugs in my "06" today and I notice the area around the carbs on the left side (on/off fuel valve side) had alot of oily film, that plastic box that sits on top of the carbs, I removed the top was the same, on the left oily and normal on the right. Don't know what to make of that? Any ideas? Some kind of blow by????

Yesterday as first time on the second year I have the bike, I noticed that there was some oily cover on the area of the rear fender close to the plate holder. Is the rubber hose that is on the area comming from the engine or some other part? I never noticed that before, but is this a meaning the the engine is sending oil out? or this is normal for the bikes? Thanks for any opinions, :detective:
