How are you mounting them??? How are you weatherproffing them??? No need to re-invent the wheel. Looking for ideas that are working and pictures if possible. Im going with this set up unless someone has a better option. This looks like a nice clear install that will protect it nicely. I visited all I could in here through search feature and rthough this is a old post it looks to be the best option. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=55068&highlight=garmin

I pulled up beside a guy riding a custom Harley yesterday, he looks over at the Venture and says "Good looking bike" , I replied thanks and before I could repay the compliment he says "Is that one of those Kawasaki-Yamahas?" Dumb founded I had to compose my self before I answered, figuring there would be this big fight right in the intersection if I said what I was thinking. I nicely said "No this is a Yamaha Royal Star Venture". The light tuned green and I got a very nice hole shot jump on him and left him in my dust wondering what just happend.

My wife loves her 08 Lincoln MKX. The local Lincoln dealer has a leftover 2011 and had it discounted 8,500 so we went to check it out. Before we walked out he dropped another 3 grand. It is not the totally loaded model but is very nicely equipped. Actually, the price is less than what we gave for the 08 2 years ago and it was a low miles used one. I think my wife will be sporting a new ride next week!

I have consulted the WS manual and found that the CV join can be pressed apart and that there are 4 needle bearings in it. I now have bought a (-83) XZ550 with an extra engine for nearly bicycle money. The CV joint (I assume it's a similar construction, only smaller) flexes nicely in one direction but not in the perpendicular ditto. I suspect one of the needle bearings to be shot (rusty). Has anyone any experience of servicing the CV joint?

Over the last two days, I decided to jump in to the "project" before the pretty weather arrived so a few thoughts to share..... Dunlop Elite 3 tires from SportTour in Cincinnati for $117 and $119 seems to be a pretty decent price. They also have a nice website with lots of good things at rather decent prices. No real problems changing then at all and the rear needed no weight to balance at all. While I was in to it, and since I had the Super Brace and some new Progressive for springs, it was only logical to do that at the same time, so I jumped in. The archives on this website were absolutely critical in being able to complete this task with little to no difficulties. To all those who have shared their experiences, I offer a humble and heartfelt "Thank You" Here are a couple of things I learned while doing this project....... - a 5/16 hitch pin clip works just fine in the rear axle nut( had one in the parts drawer) - AutoZone has a set of hex bits in 12, 14, and 17 mm for $9.95 that will be a great addition to anyones tool box. They are 1/2 inch drive and the 17 is perfect for the forks. Anti seize on the threads helps them go back in very nicely. - on the recommendation of a racer friend, I used Mobll 1 full synthetic in the forks. We'll have to see how that works out. - a 3/8 inch impact works nicely for helping remove all kinds of bolts and nuts that have never been touched. The hammering action helps break up corrosion on threads without the fear of breaking things. It doesn't take a high setting at all to move things. After I got everything back together, I just had to go out for a bit to scrub then new tires in a bit. Even with being quite cautious to no get too excited with the new tires, I was astounded with the difference in the feel of the bike. The little voice in the back of my head kept saying "where are those guys on the Ninjas?" but I did my level best to ignore him. Weather or not, I am riding this fabulous machine a bunch this year, starting tomorrow.....

In this area we have a big problem with tailgaters period. But when they tailgate us when we are on the bikes we run into another problem. See my son's thread ( Friend killed on bike) The last 3 years I have been confronting the tailgaters nicely when I have the opportunity and nicely telling them the problems involved when they tailgate a bike. Don't know if it helps, but some do say they are sorry and didn't realize. Once in a while it turns into a confrontation, but oh well, they need to be told. What do some of you do? I thought about ball bearings,etc--but I'm more afraid of causing an accident and getting someone not involved hurt. I'm talking about the problem tailgaters where slowing down, waving them around, etc don't help.

Last week i had wrote stating i bought some of those yamaha branded highway foot pegs for our bike & was asked to let ya'll know how i liked them. with my size 8 shoe/boot & a short (28") inseam, the pegs are great for me. i have them angled inward and my boots fit in the stirrup section quite nicely while my heel rests on the floorboard. if i need to stretch some to catch a bit more breeze or find a different foot placement, the spike end of the peg rests nicely in the middle of the ball of the foot. i tend to shuffle around so i am always moving from floor board to peg. others who are larger in stature wished me luck with these & i am satisfied with them. I can see where a larger boot print and longer legs would not like these pegs. a big plus is that they do look great on the bike in replacement of the universal foot pegs that came on the bike. thanks for all the input & from the differences in pricing stated in the previous post, i only paid 5 bucks more than necessary. of the other shopping blunders i have experienced - 5 bucks was a bargain. Well, I finally installed my edset, and it went ok. But - it seems like I have to crank up the volume way up to get a bit of sound out of them. She who must be obeyed says when I intercom her it comes through nicely for her J&Ks - she has to turn her volume control down and I have to crank mine way up to hear her. Any idea about what gives here?

Hi Folks: Does anyone know if the antenna mount from an 86 or newer will fit or bolt up to an 84 trunk bracket? The 86 has an S bend in it that lends nicely to having a right angle adapter in place while the 84 is just a straight pipe. Wayne

I have an XM radio in my truck and love it. Of course I'm very interested in having XM on my Venture as well. Now I'm debating on what way to go. One thought is to buy a Pioneer Inno and connecting it through my speakers on the bike. I'm thinking that this would work nicely because it's compact and I can use it in my wifes car as well. Has anyone else done this? Pros/Cons? Thanks, Bob
