This guy is located on highway 20 east of Smithville. Just came back from purchasing a jacket, quite happy with a textile Himilaya with two liners for $135 including taxes. He has really grown and I recommend the guy wholeheartedly. He is a rider and has opened a building on his farm, so low overhead and low prices. If you're riding in the Niagara direction, make a point to drop off and see Ed, you'll be glad you did. (Closed Mondays and Friday opens at noon) http://tonsofbikegear.com/

Looking for route options from Niagara Falls Canada to Pigeon Forge. The last time we toured down (for the Honda Hoot a few years back) we followed 219 (from just outside Buffalo) pretty much all the way. Round trip we are looking at about 7 days (to bad the Gap is outa commission, got my fingers crossed it will be clear by the second week in June..I hope). We are more interested in the sight seeing/twisty kinda routes than burning up the interstates(we tend to save that for the trip home). Any suggestions would be most welcome.

I think this might be fun .... not sure if it has been done before. Imagine one of your fellow Venturerider buddies is coming to visit for a day, and you are going to take him/her out for a ride. The rules are: near YOUR house total ride no more than 5 hours show them the area, and your favourite roads If we piece them all together, we'll have riding nirvana! Mine is: Out of Dunnville heading towards Lowbanks for the shore ride along to Port Colborne. Show them the optical illusion on the beach. Take Hwy 3 to Fort Erie and now north along Niagara Parkway, passed Millionaires Row. Passed Niagara Falls, getting damp at Tablerock and checking out all the tourists. Just as we get to the town limits of Niagara-on-the-Lake turn left on Rd81 so we can go drop into Chocolate Effects (yum). Take the route passed Niagara College and then through the tunnel under the Welland Canal. Now onto Decew Rd, through Effingham area and then onto Twenty Mile Rd (RR 69). After a short trip down RR 4 its back home in time for supper.

Just recently I had submitted an entry to Niagara Contest and won a third place prize for a $100 gift certificate towards a local merchant here in Niagara. Fist place prize was a new furnace (installed), 2nd was a fridge and stove. Unfortunately (depending where you live) the contest was only open to Niagara residence. Well, they’re hosting another contest and this one is open to whoever wants to apply! All you have to do is to write a little blurb about ‘What you are doing to beat the winter blahs’! Submit your stories and 'you' will have a chance to win! Stories will be published online and will not include any personal information (name, phone number, email, addresses, etc) and will be assigned a contest number, they will reply with your entry number. I have talked with Walter, the CEO of Shop Niagara and he has informed me that you do not have to live in Niagara to submit an entry. So who better to write about "Winter Bla-ahs" then motorcycle enthusiasts!! Simply go to www.shopniagara.ca and click on ‘CONTEST’, it’s near the top right of the page. Once you’re there click on ‘Contest rules’ and it will give you details such as prizes and contact information for any questions. First prize is dinner for eight at ‘Oh Canada eh’ (dinner theater/comedy). Get your stories in, have some fun with it and good luck!! Perhaps you’ll win and the weather will be nice enough to ride in to beautiful Niagara Falls with your scoot to claim your prize! You folks in the 'sunny south' might struggle a bit with this!

Let's assume for the moment that the weather is going to co-operate. That being the case we are intending to ride. Leaving Caledonia at 9:00AM and having a leisurely ride along the Grand River followed by some more kinda slow and lazy roads following Lake Erie shoreline where we will get to see a cool optical illusion then off to Ft Erie and follow the Niagara river to Niagara on the Lake. Then back to Caledonia through Caister etc.... The Count (Steve and Michele) are coming along with Robin and I. All are welcome to join us. We should be back by dinner time but I'm not gonna PROMISE that.... It IS going to be a relaxing ride with some stops. Wayne

Just got back from a great day of riding with Venture members, J. Gorom, SpankyM, Niagara 135, and his wonderful daughter, my co-pilot Taters, along with Valkayre members Big D and Little D, and friends, Don and LouLou. Started off meeting and having lunch at our favorite restaurant in the Southern Tier called "Earls". Proceeded East thru the land of windmills and headed into Letchworth State Park where Niagara 135 met up with his wife who had been camping there. Leaving Steve...Niagara 135 in good hands, we proceeded for ICE CREAM!!!!!!!!!!!. After frozen bananas, custards, banana splits and other dairy treats, J. Gorom led our pack to a wonderful Amish Store selling a variety of Bulk foods, cheese, soups, candy, pies and breads along with various other treats. Guess James thought I was in need of more food. Great Store.....Thanks, James! Heading out with a saddlebags full of food snacks, we followed James north thru the city of Batavia, where he broke off and headed home.... At this point we decided that another refreshment stop was in order, so we stopped. But this time only liquid refreshments....coffee break....what did you think I meant? With coffee in hand and conversation ... the bull flying....we soon headed west toward home. With Don and LouLou safely on their way home and Taters and I tucked in...the only one left riding was SpankyM..... Yes I know the rule about pictures, SpankyM has officially been voted in as group photographer and poster of pictures. I'm sure they will be posted shortly......Our WNY group of riders is getting stronger and (CHUBBIER) and we hope that more Venture riders in the area will contact one of us and join our little group.... Sorry BongoBob and Becky you were away and unable to join us. You were missed.

The wife and I do an annual wedding anniversary ride. Last year we did Macinaw, year before that Serenity Springs, and this year is Niagara Falls. We are staying in the Embassy suites in Ontario. We are leaving from South Bend, IN. Trying to decide which is the better ride, taking the toll road stateside all the way there, or going through Canada. Does anyone have an opinion in either case - anyone have any suggestions, advice, good places to stop, etc? Thanks!

I live in Dunnville, commute to Hamilton. So I know of a couple of nice ones to ride. Here is my list in no particular order: Hamilton area: Scenic Drive- check out the homes and the view Ridge Rd- killer views and a few twisties Niagara area: St Anns Rd (RR 69 I think) nice twisties Effingham Rd - twisties but a little bumpy lately Niagara Parkway - Millionaire's Row nice road and great views, even worth the ride through the mayhem of the Falls area. I like to go from Fort Erie up to Niagara Lake Erie shoreline: from Port Colborne through to Lowbanks, and then from Dunnville to Selkirk along the shore too. Second is a little bumpy but both nice rides. Thats what I've got for now.... anyone else want to add ......feel free! Always looking for a new ride!

Wednesday will be a ride down towards Port Dover. And back early for the Supper. Thursday for those that are still here this will be an all day ride up to the Muskokas. early start- late return. I hate posting a "ride" here in the watering hole, but I am looking for maximum exposure to the locals of this area.. Hope this is OK.. Sunday May 19, suppose to reach mid 50's for temp, I am planning on at least a 5 hour tour(maybe longer). Starting at Tim Hortons in Smithville(10 am) and perhaps running out to Niagara on the lake, then back to the escarpment, along some not so well known beautiful roads, then along the Grand river close to Brantford, then across a few more hidden treasure roads to get to Ancaster, then finish up in Dundas..So let me know if your interested, either here, email, private message, whatever.. Brian.

...of the '83 VR's? When I first perused the owner's manual, I misread it's fuel capacity listing as 5.0 gals, when (just looking back into the booklet) I see that it is 5.0 quarts. At just 1-1/4 gallons (unless that was a typo) it's no wonder that I get the fuel gauge readings that I do. I could have sworn that the fuel capacity would have been greater than that. Don't get me wrong: I am not complaining - just remarking . I did get the chance to do a little riding, tonight. I filled up, and left here for Lewiston, NY. I rode back to Niagara Falls, to get myself a coffee, and saw that my gas gauge was reading empty - so I filled up again. I then headed back to Amherst, but decided - after getting back - that I didn't want to put the bike up, just yet. So I decided to take a run out to Springville. Once I got there, my fuel gauge was devoid of fill-level bars, so I pulled over to fill it up. I am guessing that the venture from Niagara Falls to Springville - the way that I made it - was no more than 80-90 miles. I am probably way off base, here, but I had assumed that I should be able to get pretty darn close to 200 miles, of highway riding, out of a tank of gas. If this is to fall under 'wishful thinking', that's OK: It will just mean more frequent fillings .
