Sgt 1st class Donald Shue was brought home today. Donald has spent the last 41+ years as a MIA. We provided an honor guard of nearly 2000 motorcycles today at the request of the remaining family. I am drained, my emotions have been very high all day. Having been in Viet Nam and have seen the carnage, I am proud that I could honor this hero. Rolling Thunder put on a fantastic operation and Patriot Guard was there in force. I could not tell you how many groups were there but it was awesome. I saw Nam Vets, Military Vets, Star Touring and Riding, Sons of Vets and soooo many more. The Army and Marine soldiers did a fantastic job of bringing him home and giving him the honor he deserved. In the 60's and 70's we were received as baby killers and pure trash. His home town of Concord/Kannapolis gave him the "welcome home" that all of the soldiers from Viet Nam deserved. The police and fire departments were out with all at attention and salute. This really made my love of this country come alive, God Bless the USA. I am humbled,

Just sitting here listening to a call in show on the radio taking calls from in-country 'nam vets. During the calls, a common theme developed which got me curious. How many of you still carry a P38. I still do and would really feel naked without it.

Something unique recently happened to me that I thought I would share with my fellow Venture riders. On the Sunday Jan. 31, 2010 edition of The Oregonian newspaper out of Portland there is a picture of some GI's from Viet Nam in 1972. I am the soldier in the middle on the pole taking the flag down. Kinda strange that picture would appear 38 years later in a west coast newspaper and an old boy from Ky. is in it. There is a connection since the GI to my right has a brother that now works for the paper and was also in Viet Nam. But still, what are the odds??? Just wanted to share. Bill

What a joy to wake up and see snow pouring down and actually sticking to the ground this morning. We had several inches across southern Louisiana and Mississippi. School was called off because people don't know how to drive in it here. A friend was driving to Florida today and had to turn back because the interstate was closed down about 40 miles from here due to the snow and then an ice storm. I have lived in Louisiana all of my life (55 this month) except 3 years in the army and probably have not seen snow here 10 times. It did snow a lot the year I was sweating in Viet Nam. My wife made me a snowman and froze it in the freezer until I got home. It was ice then. Glad it doesn't happen often but it is fun once in a while. About half of it has melted now. It is supposed to be back in the 70's by Sunday. What weather we have here. Lyle
