new rear tire with about 800 miles on it. please look at pics. don't think it went straight in, i think it just caught the edge. with the luck i had last time with a nail( none at all) i will listen to sound advice on this one. i pulled the nail out without any air leakage. is there anything to do or just ride it. just don't want to loose another one at 82 mph with two up. the pic with the nail and paper is how far it went in.

Inspecting the bike in preparation for our 4 day weekend camping trip (putting our Leesure Lite trailer to it's firt test) into the interior of BC and what do I find??? ... a f&^%@ nail in my rear tire! New Elite III just over 4000 miles on it. Pulled the nail out and it's about a 2 inch brad. Decided to plug the hole coz it's pretty small ... waddya think? Am I gonna be good to go? (figgure I'll get a few conflicting responses to this Q ) If I have to replace the tire before we leave, it will set us back by at least a day and as a result, we may loose our camping spot. ggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sunday I stepped on a rofing nail around 1:0 and with my periferal neuropathy I didn't feel it. I noticed it around 5:30 when I came in for the day and my sock was stuck to my shoe. As I was walking across the floor I noticed I was leacving a small blood trail. Monday morning all seemed reasonably well so I went to work. Big mistake. As the day progressed I felt sicker and aicker, and when I got home my toe that got the nail in it was all inflamed. Called my doctor last night and he gave me a prescription for some antibiotics. Went to the doctors today, and it does not look good. They gave me a shot of a second antibiotic and a prescription for a third antibiotic. I'm staying home the rest of the week on DB, and have to go back to the doctor's on thursday. I really do not want to loose another toe, this one is on the other foot, so please pray for me!!!

I had surgery on my toe today. I had an ingrown toenail on both sides of the toe so i went in and the doctor killed the sides and clipped the nail. Then the nail grew out AND DOWN!!! So i went back in and he clipped it again. Same result, except this time i tried to let nature heal itself and the nail was really close to breaking on through to the other side (mind the doors referance). Well the doctor said that it was so infected that I'm lucky it didn't infect the bone, and he said that it was so deep he couldn't believe that i dealt with that much pain. He also didn't believe me that my toe wasn't numb, and he gave me 8 shots. My toe was swollen at least twice the normal level and he said he couldn't get anymore numbing agent in. It hurt quite a bit! Doctor said i can be riding again in a week BUT according to the weather, i wont be for at least awhile longer. My nail wont be growing back anytime soon, and hopefully not at all. I went in there with him thinking i was a wuss, and left with him saying i had one of the worst ingrown he'd ever seen. And he's a foot specialist!

well susan's ins comp. said they are dropping me at the first of the year, so on sept 29th, i'm going ahead and have my knee done and after recooping from it, i'm have my left leg fixed where it didn't mend after i broke it in my venture wreck in '05. it'll take about 5 or 6 weeks to recoop from my complete right knee replacement. on left, doc will take out old rod or nail as he calls it, ream out the bone and drive a bigger nail in. then he will clean out around the break where it didn't heal and put bone stem back around it to help it heals. 4-6 weeks recoop from that. i'll be out about 3 months if nothing goes wrong on either surgery or therapy. i do have short term disabilty that pays 60% of my pay and i have some vacation days to cover the first 7 days that it don't cover. have been putting back a little $s to carry me over hopefully. hope all goes well and i can still ride after it's all over, wish me well. thanks for your support, don.

I have a very nice '99 RSV, but I am getting the most annoying rattle and vibration from the area of the backrest, speaker housing or trunk that I cannot identify. I've tightened every bolt and screw I can find, lubed the trunk lid hinges, removed and reinstalled everything from the front seat on back to the trunk, and still cannot find the source. I've had my wife sit backward on the rear seat while we rode up and down the street to try to isolate it, but even she can't nail it down. The speakers work OK at all volumes, so I don't think it's them, unless it's inside the housing itself. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Thanks.

I found a nail in my beloved E3 today. Dang. I was doing some routine checks before a ride and found the front tire was down to 15 psi...oooops...not good. So I ordered a new E3 from one of the sponsors here, Motorcycle Superstore. This tire probably has about 3000 to 5000 miles left on it, treadwise...but its going to die an early death. The bike is sitting in my garage, with a very slow leak now due to the nail. I think this the first time I have EVER had a nail in a front motorcycle tire. Yep...there is ALWAYS a first time!

On my way back from Texas, the bike decided she wanted new shoes as we were passing through Monroe, LA. Fortunately I was able to get to the local dealer, they had the sizes I needed and they did some reworking of their schedule in order to get me out that afternoon. There was a little bit of a wait, but they took me over to the nearby Mall so I could get some chow. I wasn't happy with the bike picking up the nail hitchhiker but Bayou Motorsports made it a lot less of a hassle than it could have been. Oh, and did I mention that Thursday through Saturday were COLD for riding across the south?

Ride On Tire Puncture Sealant Test Did an experiment today with Ride-On. The Ride-On was introduced into the tire from day one of tire replacement. Before replacing the rear Avon Venom @ 20,000 Km I decided to find out if Ride-On actually worked. Since I’ve been using Ride-On from Day 1 of purchasing my 05 Midnight, 90,000 Km and 5 tire changes later I’ve never experienced a flat or puncture. Was the $14.00 a bottle peace of mind justified? I decided to find out. The experiment was conducted at my dealership where I get my tires replaced. The dealership owner and I conducted the experiment. Ride-On introduced into new tire. Rode the tire for approximately 20,000 Km with Ride-On in it Tire pressure was 41 lbs @ start of test With bike on center stand a roofing nail was hammered into a groove on the contact patch. With a chalk line around the nail insertion site, the nail was removed Slightly audible hissing sound could be heard by both of us and you could feel air escaping. Started the engine and spun the tire for 5 Km. as per instructions from Ride-On. Shut the bike off and checked the tire. We could no longer hear any hissing or feel any air escaping. The nail hole seemed to have sealed up. Tire pressure was holding at slightly less than 41 lbs Still holding after 10 min So we tried hammering in a ¼ in. sheet metal screw with a hammer but could not get it to insert. We then used an impact gun to drive in the metal screw No air loss Used the impact gun to reverse the screw out of the tire (as per Ride-On instructions) As the screw was reversing out of the tire we noticed a shot of spray from the hole left by the removed screw which stopped almost immediately. Rolled the tire so the puncture was at the lowest point. Did not have to spin the tire as the leak had already sealed itself. Total loss was less than one lbs. of air After sitting for an hour the tire was still holding air pressure at 40 lbs before tire was removed for replacement. Observation: with Ride–On in the tires I had not added any air to both front and rear tires since I stored the bike last fall in an unheated garage, then rode it up till now 15,000 Km later. After the test the dealer was so impressed that he asked to keep the nail and screw to show his customers. Conclusion: Ride-On does what it proclaims to do. Now if only I could figure out a test to see if Deer whistles really work :whistling:

Back a couple months ago I had a new tires put on. So I purchased some ride on and added it to the tires. This evening I went out to take a ride and the rear tire was flat. Checked and found a small nail in it. So pumped up the tire and pulled the nail out but it did not seal itself. According to Ride On's web site. It's suppose to seal up to 1/4" diameter. The nail is very close to the 1/4". The rear tires on the Roadliner are not cheap! But you can't ride without one!!!!

I rode to work this morning, parked the bike, covered it and went to the office. One of the other guys that rode today came in and told me that I had a nail in the tread of my front tire. I have Ride On in my tires so---Do I pull the nail out or leave it there? Should I wait till I get home to do it, just in case it goes flat? HELP!!

I have been riding for a litle over 37 years now and I have never had a flat tire. Well so much for luck, I have one now and the bike only has 2700 miles on it. It doesn't supprise me with all the new houses going up in this area. I have picked up dozens of nails and sheet rock screws in the road while out for walks. Looks like my rear tire found a #8 nail. I'm in the market for a new rear tire, does anyone recommend a dealer with good prices and fast shipping? The local stealer wants $198.00 for a Bridgeston, he's NUTS!

Bike has been parked all winter. Discovered that the rear tire was almost flat (yet it was around 45lbs when I parked it). Checked the tire and noticed a piece of metal like a nail embedded into the tread. Haven't tested for a leak yet but will later tonight. No idea how long it might have been there but recall air pressure dropping about 10lbs over a 2 month time span last summer. The tire is good and is a Avon Venom-X so I really don't want to replace it yet. Can such a thing be fixed? We used to (and probably still do) put plugs in car tires. Can this be done on a m/c tire or what?
