HI folks, after doing some searching I have found no riding tips for when your in the mountains dealing with inclines and such. Having never spent anytime in the mountains at all, I am looking forward to this summer as I will be living up in the NE for five months and look forward to spending a lot of time in the mountains, so any riding tips would be much appreciated. I also did some searching on Ironbutting, as I will be making some really long trips this summer also, so any tips for when you are going to be in the saddle all day would also be very helpful. Thanks for your time guys, really do look forward to the advice you have to offer.

Anyone have any good ideas, or something in mind ? Myself and friend JD Holbrooks are looking forward to our Spring ride we are trying to plan. Coming from Morehead,KY South West toward Arkansas. We want to see the Ozark Mountains and Arkansas. Planning on a week to ride, leaving Saturday,May 18 to be back on Saturday,May 24. We usually take the hammer roads (interstates) until we reach the main destination, then back roads and enjoy the scenery for as long as possible. Wonder what the weather will be like during May in the mountains there ? Looks like I-64 to Lexington then Bluegrass PK Way to I-65 to I-40 west then over into Arkansas ? I suppose that would be a good start to see the mountains ? We never plan on to much, other than the first night stay and kinda go from there. If you have any links or roads and maps, please feel free to post or send them. I would appreciate any and all help. Happy New Year, Fuzzy :usa:

Looks like we will be blowing the dust off this Yuppyville North Texas area and heading for Ruidoso, NM. We have a contract pending on a nice chunk of property in the mountains, and if all goes well, we'll be heading out by November 1. Looking forward to some cooler temperatures! The next challenge is gonna be to sell this place in Texas. Been retired for a couple of years, and the DFW area just isn't our idea of a nice place to relax. Haven't had any luck finding the right kinda place down in the Texas Hill Country, so we decided to change venues all together. The new place in the mountains has a great big shop and lots of land, so maybe we'll see some of you out there! Goose

This was just forwarded to me by a friend. I wanna ride it!! Too bad we can't do something like that here in the US. We have the mountains, but we also have way too many safety restrictions.... What a beautiful ride we had this weekend! Met up with Riderduke and TC Friday night in Ashville. On Saturday early morning, Eck joined us after working his Friday shift and riding all night from Charleston. We rode the Blue Ridge Mountains, ate at Pisgah Inn with a gorgeous view of the mountains, (loved all the tunnels), rode through Cherokee, had to stop at DQ. We also saw five hot air balloons in air along the ride. Off through Robinsonville on Highway 74 with a ton of bikes and then onto the Cherohala Skyway. Ran into a little rain along the way but dried out soon! From there we went through Blairsville and then into Elliajay for dinner at Colonel Pooles. After dinner, we took off for Stone Mountain. We checked into the hotel at 9:45 p.m.! Eck was ready for a rest as we were as well! Saturday morning we had breakfast at the Metro Cafe in Snellville and then off to Blackjack's to meet up with Terry and Janis, Muffinman and Margaret. Sling and Peggy arrived not too long after. Konnie, Eck's wife met us at Provinos. Then Gray Ghost and his wife and another couple arrived to join us for lunch. It was a great place to eat! We left with Eck and Konnie, Rick and Peggy. We got home last night around 7:45 and just taking it easy today! Here are a few pictures! http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y262/venturerider/Sleeperhawks%20Mechanic/2011/Sleeperhawk%20Mechanics%2020110903%20Georgia/

Well, the wife and I just got back from a nice trip. We left NJ on Monday morning and went up along the Delaware river into Port Jervis, NY. then up 209 to around kingston and up 9w (depressing) and some other back roads and stayed just north of Saratoga Springs. Next day it was doing some sighting in the area and then up to Vermont and then south through the Green Mountains and into the Berkshires of MA. Then back to NY for the night and then home to South Jersey. Nice trip. It only rained 4 or 5 times. Mostly on top of the mountains.

I am sitting in a hotel lobby in Lake Point (just west of SLC) unable to continue riding because of the snow. I can probably make it to town if anyone is interested in catching a cup of coffee. I may be here for a while until I can find a clear way out of these mountains. RR

Peggy and I are just back from a five-day vacation in Townsend, Tn. Went up just to ride the mountains for a few days. Had some very heavy rain for two days but the sun did come out eventually for the afternoon hours and we got in plenty of riding. We rode through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Lots of tourists even midweek. It is beautiful beyond words there, even in bad weather and the pictures do not do it justice. Had some slight issues with the trailer that had to be resolved. Fortunately, it fits through the door so it spent several nights in the hotel room with us!! Rode home today through the park to Cherokee and lots of back roads most of the way. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

I want to thank Jack for my best riding day of my life. He kindly offered to ride with me into the mountains while enroute to Vegas. WOW, amazing scenery and the twistes out of this world. For me anyways. It was my first time riding in the mountains and pulling a trailer to boot. No pictures to post as I am on my iPhone while camping next the Colorado river in glenwood canyon. So much beauty. It is breath taking. I got to see Squidleys old bike. Jack is putting lots of miles on it and loving it. Have a great summer everyone. And thank you again Jack for an inredible day and ride.

OK, folks, I want to be sure that everyone in any proximity (near or far!) to the greater Atlanta area (you know, that great big city that all roads lead to in the S.E. United States!) considers this an Open Invitation to attend this Special Event. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=46466 The riding in this area of the country is absolutely stellar, so come on along, get your bike right, and go for a delightful ride in the North GA Mountains. There are accommodations available, either with Forum members in the area or at nearby motels. Make it your Spring Fling! Steve and I look forward to seeing you there! In the meantime, be sure to visit Steve at: www.wagnercustomproducts.com TERRY

I'll be bringing home a few souveniors from the mountains. We explored today a geological find at a construction site in the mountains of West Virginia. We were at about 2500 ft above sea level and found fossilized rock formations with sea shells at the dig site. Guess like they say at one time we were underwater.I guess the beach is closer then you think.

I just got word that an old friend of mine is retiring from the Air Force in mid-October. I'm thinking about riding the bike (from San Antonio) to Colorado Springs. I'm concerned about the weather that time of the year. I realize it is not in the mountains, but I wonder what the temperatures typically run at that time of year. Appreciate any input.

We just got back from the Smoky Mountains. 1700+ miles round trip. We rode the Dragon 3 times, saw lots of deer and wild bear at Cade's Cove, rode practically every mountain road in the National Park and Foothills Parkway along with the Cherohala Skyway. We had a great trip other than my wife having a fender bender with a truck that stopped at a green light - she is ok but her bike has a few scuffs and scratches. It was absolutely beautiful country - we've seen it lots of times before but not from our bikes.

I am trying to put together a Ride-Meet-Eat for the 12th of September 2009. Destination will be Leavenworth, the Bavarian Village. As usual this will be weather dependent, not that we mind riding in the rain, but Seattle cagers seem to aim for us when they have to use windshield wipers! The current forecast indicates partly cloudy and high 70's to high 80's on the east side of the mountains...but this is the PNW and it could change by Wednesday. I am open for suggestions on a meeting place/time/fuel stop/and food destination. Just add to this thread and we will see what happens. Larry AKA: Silverdeer

I was going to a meeting with a sheriff in Avery county NC, and I was on 70 going to the mountains when some one lost some stuff off there truck. I thought I missed all three piece's but #3 took a bounce and hit my bike. I think it was a piece of metal it hit my left rear turn signal caught the corner an chipped the chrome an took the amber lens completely off. If any buddy has one they can part with let me know, I will check Ebay also. The trip to the mountains would have been perfect I will be working with the sheriff the ride was great except for the piece taking out my turn signal out. Thanks, Dale

If you find yourself passin through or near Lawton Oklahoma, me and my wife would love to show you through the Wichita Mountains and Mt. Scott. Then head over to Medicine Park for some grub!! We also have an extra room if someone rides from far away and needs a place to crash. Just email us in advance maybe a couple of days so we can make sure we are here. Army has me busy 6 days a week so gettin to go far is hard for us to do, but we love to ride. Thanks, Shane n Linda

I am not being nosey! Just wondered where every one is planning on riding to this summer. I know where I want to travel; I am never sure if it will happen or not. I want to go the Smokies again, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and probably down in Kentucky to take some of the distillery tours. I also would love to go to some Blue Grass Festivals. Of course, to Freebird's MD. Yama Mama

Hey, riders, I have a friend - Elgato - who just joined here today. He has a bike (dark side ) and wants to get it out here to Nor Cal. "The bike is in San Antonio. Was thinking about I-10W to LA, and then up to here.". Any idea on how he might be able to do this? He would encounter snow in some mountains wouldn't he? Thanks in advance for any help.

From a ride on Sunday the26th of October. Three of us on our Tour De Luxes headed out through the Dragon, over to Maggie Valley and back through Smoky Mountains National Park by way of the Blue Ridge Parkway. In Maggie Valley we went to Wheels Trough Time, a great little museum!

Pennsylvania Route # 6 plus Catskill & Adirondack mountains Bike Trip
Guest posted a topic in Watering Hole
Myself & 3 other biker buddies from Ontario Canada are planning a road trip (first week of June) along Route #6. Weather permitting we will be camping. I have been researching this area with the Pennsylvania Tourism Bureau. Curious to know if anyone else has experienced a bike trip along Pennsylvania's Heritage Route. We are also considering our travels through New York State with the Catskill & Adirondack mountains. Any information you could share would be very appreciated! Thanks in advance. -
We made this trek this summer- an absolutely unforgetable ride. Hwy 34 East out of loveland/Ft Collins area. Make the trip in the AM so you can enjoy the climb and decent. The mountains tend to cloud up and give late afternoon showers.
