Thank you Eck Last Monday a friend and I arrived in Welch WV at about 6:30 PM, with no motel reservations. My friend had miss placed the motel info and the motels were hid from site. We stopped at a couple gas stations, but didn’t get good direction. I remembered reading Eck’s post on his upcoming trip to Welch. I managed to get a call through to him, which was a miracle with no bars and a low battery charge. Eck gave me the numbers to several motels in the area. We were less than ½ mile from one and it was a nice place. Thanks Eck for the help!!!!!! Earl:clap2:

Sunday morning I was on my way back from Key West when my wife and I stopped in Port St Lucie to eat lunch at The Cracker Barrell. All seemed well up to this point. I had been cruising along at about 70-80 mph for the better part of the morning. After we finished our lunch we got back on the bike and started pulling out of the parking lot. I noticed that the bike felt kinda squirlly, so I pulled over under a big oak tree in the back of the lot and got off to take a look at the rear tire. It was almost flat. The tire gage wouldn't even register!! I normally run about 42 psi in the rear tire. So, I get out the air compressor and get it to going. The tire pumps up to 50 psi(this is the max cold tire pressure on the side of the Avon Venom). I listen, can't hear a thing. We decide to give it a few minutes(maybe 5) and recheck. The pressure is down to 47 psi. I roll the bike back and forth looking for a nail or something but can't find anything. Hook up the compressor again and pump it up to 52 psi. We get on and go looking for a place to stay and maybe a place to get some help if needed. After stopping for gas along the interstate I check it again and the tire was still holding 54psi ( partly from heating up on the road). We take off again on the way home and stop in Daytona for the night. I check the tire again at the motel and it has 48 psi but it has also cooled down a little. I took it across the street and topped it off at 55 psi( taking into consideration that the tire is still a little warm). We go back to the motel and go to bed. This morning before we leave, I check the cold pressure and now it's at 47 psi, so after 10 hours and cooling down completely, I tell the missus "Let's go". We leave Daytona and ride from there home which is about 5 hours. When I checked again at home it has 51 psi in it. So, tomorow , off comes the tire for inspection and possible fix or replacement. The tire has less than 2500 miles of which 1440 were on this trip. Now for the question. What do you do as far as getting a tire replaced if, like this, it happens on a Sunday and all the shops are closed on Monday? Just stay in a motel until Tuesday?? A hole in a tire, I'm prepared to fix temporarily on the road. But what if the tire is beyond fixing?? I had the Venturerider list, but you know, I didn't the first time think of it!! Haven't looked to see if anyone was even near to where we were. Has anyone had any experience with the roadside assistance provided by Yamaha??

... and using your credit card along the way, (or for that matter, any time you use your cc) ... monitor your statement closely. If you have on-line banking, do it daily. As some of you know, Nina & I travelled to Cody and return with 2 other riders. En-route, I arranged our motel reservations. Chekking my Visa account today, I found that the last place we stayed charged me twice (the others were to pay their own) So, I called them ... the first person I get says ... it was the reservations system ... they apply the amount to your card to hold the room and it will be deducted within 10 days. (B/S as far as I'm concerned). Anyhoo ... I tell her that a) they're using my money for which I will pay interest on, b) when they go about reversing it, will I be given the exact same US-CAD exchange rate, and c) this is a policy that is not acceptable to me and I want the funds refunded tout-suite! She tells me they don't have the capability to do that and I'd have to call Visa. (more B/S). I finally get a manager on the phone and after some digging, she discovers that the second charge was for the room one of our riding companions was in (the motel somehow screwed up). Thankfully, they did take his credit card so the manager is able to credit me and charge him (no names here but guys, check your credit card statement in case they bill you twice). Other than that, all other charges appear legit (so far )

Now I have done this before and have never had an issue. But I got to know, am I doing it wrong? First I stayed at the Frontier Motel in Marquette, Iowa and asked the manager if I could hold a block of 8 rooms for a while cause I was having a ride. He told me YES he would hold them, I asked how long "HE SAID TILL 5-14-11" (Ride was on 5-21-11). I said that would be fine what ever did not get called on he would then "sell / rent" . On the 21st two couples call motel from the M&E and ask for rooms "Manager" ask if they were with me, couples ask my name and say YES we are with Bryan. Manager say that is the last two rooms he has. We get to motel and "Manager" is pissed that I did not call to cancel extra rooms??? (To my understanding he was to rent them after the 14th so why would I call? If that was not enough earlier call from other couples said that WAS LAST TWO ROOMS? SO again, why call?") And he didn't even give the two couples any of "my" rooms even when HE asked and they said YES they are with me! Anyway after we all headed home Sunday I get a call from "Shazam" debit card corporation saying there are "MANY" charges from said motel starting at $390.00 and going down $20.00 after each charge is denied. I am asked if these charges are real to which I say NO! I only owe for ONE room at $73.50. (Which I fully intend to pay, I did stay there and I am NOT trying to get out of my dept.) Monday I go to my bank and tell them the whole story they check it out and I now have a total of 14 charges from said motel. (I only put so much money in this account so I don't get burned, to bad.) My bank is cool with it and says HE is wrong but they want to cancel my card and issue a new one. NO CHARGE, which I did not argue with. My question is did I do something wrong? Any other time I have done this if I was told they would hold to a specific date then after that date rooms were gone and I did not have to call. Is that how it is suppose to work? Just thought there maybe a motel / hotel owner here that could tell me proper way I should have handled it?? Thank you , Bryan

I have been thinking of going this year, any information would be helpful. Either tent camping or motel, wondering which would be best. Though of bring my camping gear but staying at a motel during the show. Thought maybe the rowdy's might make camping less fun. I would likely camp one night on the way up from Virginia and then after the show go on over into New England camping for a few days, Thoughts and comments appreciated

We are planning a trip down to northeast Iowa/Southwest Wisconsin in the next several weeks for a ride along the Mississippi river. Can anyone recommend roads, places of interest, a nice old style motel? We did the river ride from Hastings, MN down to LaCrosse earlier this summer and it was wonderful. Stayed in Fountain City, WI one nite at an older style motel that was completely refurbished. The motel owners were just wonderful. They hung out with us outside in the evening and chatted.

i have got two weeks vacation starting labor day week. i went to meramec state park in sullivan, mo. this morning and checked the motel status in the park. it will be vacant on friday sept.10, and saturday sept.11th, 2010. i will be hosting an event there if i get enuff interest. let me know if you are interested. the riding, and sight seeing is incredable in that area. float trips, trout fishing, wineries, histroric sites and towns, etc. the weather should be perfect and cool riding that time of year. if interested i will post the motel info. the park motel is deep in the woods and has tremendous privacy and view. if we get five couples it's a meet. this may be the one i do every year in september. believe me it is an awesome area. bill

When Ramona and I travel I try to book ahead looking for those discount rates for early booking dates. We always look for free wifi, Indoor pool, king size bed, microwave, fridge, etc. Also some of the motel chains serve a really nice breakfast which we enjoy. Having a cracker barrel close is also a plus. Thursday night everything was great except that was the hardest bed I have ever slept on. We both complained of back pain and hit the pain killer early. Which brings me to my question. What motel chains do you recommend for mattress comfort?I mean this was a business class suite but the bed was hard as a rock.Maybe they sleep on rocks in Pennsylvania I don't know?

Hate to impose on anybody but after doing some research and still making a mistake, would any fellow VR's be available to give a lift from Greenville Marriot to Inman SC on the 27th of Dec approx 30 miles? Thought I'd save some money and do the Priceline thing, got a decent price for room but come to find out taxi from Greenville to Inman is going to be astronomical. Would be glad to pay for gas etc but they wanted 70.00 ouch. If I'd known the motel was going to be so far away and in wrong direction... I know, I know, those 2nd gen owners... Appreciate any help with this one. Thanks and God bless. Mike

Just got off the phone with the Motel 6 where alot of us stayed last year. Their web site was showing now available rooms. However, I was able to book one, (LA we are covered:thumbsup:), If we can get a total of 12 rooms booked there they will give us a discount also. If anyone is interested, PM me and I will call back and talk to the Manager, Trina. NOTE: The gal I talked to said she thought that was Oberlin College graduation day so rooms around there go really fast Jay

i just recieved a pm from a member wanting to know what kind of events will take place at the 09 rally in arkansas. so rather than just tell him, i thought i would post on here for people who have never been there. first off the area we will be in is some of the most beautiful and best riding country in the usa. since we are expecting such a large turn out we will have maps available for various rides so people can group up and go sight seeing on there own. eureka springs is about 40 miles away and is one awesome tourist area.there is so much history and unique things to see in the old town area. the hub where the host motel is is a motorcycle resort with a nice motel, restaurant, meeting hall and is the starting point for many good rides away from town. the hub motel is full of our people exclusively and the resort will be ours for the meet duration. there are motels listed in nearby harrison ,9 mile from the hub, and they are listed under rides and rallies. we will be in the heart of the arkansas hill country and the scenery is unblievable. bring your cameras the picture taking is endless. we will be close to beaver lake, taneycoma, bullshoals, and branson is a nice day ride for anyone wanting to head up there. as for shopping the area is a shoppers paradise. you could spend days in eureka springs alone. there are ferry rides, eateries, and craft and antique shops everywhere. i could go on and on and not cover half of the things to do. if anyone else who knows the area wants to chime in and elaborate on the stuff i have missed or forgot. please do so this will be a big help to the folks that are trying to decide whether or not to make it next year to hopefully the biggest event the venture riders have ever had. we are expecting a record turnout for this one so we are giving it our all. any questions chime in and some one on the site will have an answer if i don't. looking forward to meeting alot of new people and seeing my old friends. bill
