  1. After reading the material on these units I am very interested in purchasing one. I would like to Hear from any of the members that have purchased these units. I also have a question which mic do you prefer either the solid mic MH10-10 or the MH10-11 the slimmer one which fits inside the helmet? I have a HJC modular SY MAX 2 flip type helmet. I look forward to hearing your opinions on this unit whether it be pro or con. Thanks Dana
  2. I have been in helmet shopping hell for the last few weeks. My RF1000 has had it after 7 years and with the RSV being more comfy I have noticed a lot more pain trying to do a little longer rides. I was really hoping to get into a modular helmet. First I ordered the Scorpion Exo 900 modular. Great helmet...feels solid, nice fit and finish with great features. But the 3xl was too small front to back and my chin touched the chin bar. Second was a Icon Aliance in 3xl. Not a modular but great price at 160.00. Still a great looking helmet and would have been great but too snug and more for a round shaped head. We found an Arai Profile in xl and RX-Q in 2xl. The Profile was too small but crazy comfy and probably would be great in a 2xl. The RX-Q in 2xl did actually fit pretty well. The problem with these two was price (Profile 480.00) (RX-Q 525.00). I don't mind the dough but I am still hoping to find a modular someday. So after seeing a review on the new RF1100 I liked the 5 different shell sizes, venting, improved sealing and removable liner. Found it locally in 3xl(hair too big) and xl (hair too tight). Looks like the Qwest is a cruiser version of the RF1100, venting changed for upright position and non removable liner. The Qwest comes in cheaper at 315.00. I decided to order the RF1100 in Metallic Black, 415.00 from Revzilla. Good service and awesome helmet. It's early yet, only have a quick 50 mile ride on it but no hotspot at all. Nice padding and washable liner. Even has nice pockets molded in for headset speakers. It seems to be quiet and possibly good airflow (hard to tell behind the windshield). When I poke my head out of the air bubble I can feel air moving. Fit and finish are excellent, the visor is like butter and you can feel it suck shut when closed. So if you have a larger hard to shape head, give this a go. I see lots of comfy miles in my future. Frank
  3. Ok, to start this off. Those who don't know me should know that I have a rather large mellon on my shoulders. So consiquently it's hard for me to find a helmet to fit properly especially a full face or modular helmet. Every one I tried on would push back on my chin uncomfortably so I have worn a 1/2 or 3/4 for the past 6 years. After going over the 100,000 mile milestone on my RSV I got to thinking just how lucky I have been not to have been in a major MC accident or a minor one for that matter. The wife has been talking lately about going to a half helmet because of the heat or at least a 3/4 and I am somewhat ok with the 3/4, I am adamatly against her wearing a 1/2. Being the hypocrite that I am I used the excuse of my abnormally large "MELLON" as the excuse for my choice in helmet. Putting all that together and I decided to get a Zeus Modular helmet and give it a try. Several years ago I tried on a Zeus XL at Myrtle Beach Bike Week and although it was a bit snug it did have chin room, more so than any other helmet I have ever put on. So after much deliberation I pulled the trigger and ordered a 3XL (told you it was a big mellon) Zeus ZS 508W helmet and here is my take on this $90.00 Modular helmet. The helmet came with two helmet bags and extra hardware. Right out of the box I noticed that it had a pretty good finish on it. The flip mechanism worked easy and I was anxious to pull it over my head. The helmet slipped on like it was made for me, plenty of room inside(in fact I had to wear a schampa head rag to get that perfect fit feel). Now for the real test, closing the chin bar. When I dropped and locked the chin bar I was surprised to find about an inch to and inch and a half distance from the helmet to my chin. So far so good. Next thing I noticed was there was a lot of room around my ears, enough in fact for a headset with room to spare. The helmet feels sturdy as does the locking mechanism. Rode to work this morning and although it took some getting used to I really enjoyed the helmet. Lets get the bad out of the way first off. Over 55MPH I started getting wind noise, it wasn't terrible but it was noticable and coming from around the face shield at the top. I closed all vents to make sure and it made no difference at all. Like I said it wasn't terrible but after things being quite for the low speed it was noticable. I usually wear ear plugs with my half and 3/4 anyway so no big deal for me. That was it for the bad. The Good: No wind buffeting at all. (Most of my helmets have moderate buffeting) Vents seemed to work well, I could feel cool air on top of my head with them open. Chin vent directed air to face shield and kept it realativly fog free. Face shield has several detent and locks securely in each one. Fairly large view port so you don't get that claustraphobic feeling. Plenty of room for sun glasses. No undue pressure on your ears. Easy one handed operation. Optional Dual Lense Face Shield Optional Dual Lense "Electric" Fog Free Face Shield If I were to give it an overall grade I would give it a A-. Here is a link to a review of thier first gen modular.http://www.webbikeworld.com/r2/zeus-helmet/zeus-helmet.htm I just read on their site that the 2009 model is SNELL certified. That's a first for a Modular I do believe. Here a a few pics of my helmet minus the neck roll. I hate those things. http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/c72b7a22.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/7b213680.jpg http://i227.photobucket.com/albums/dd227/SaltyDawg83/c3bc19e9.jpg
  4. For those of you with a modular helmet AND headsets...any problems with radio or intercom because of wind noise? I've always worn a full face & just bought a set of HJC Symax II modular helmets. I knew modulars had more wind noise than a fullface, but after a test ride tonight in 20mph breeze, there's quite a bit more noise...so much in fact that I'm wondering if installing new J&M headsets is going to give decent results or be a waste of time. I'm guessing others out there are using a similar setup successfully but just wanted to verify while I can still return the helmets for refund if I choose.
  5. Ok, my question is simple,I think. I am presently using a VOX modular helmet and will soon be going to a gmax modular helmet. Do I need a specific type of headset or will any work for both helmets. I am also not sure if I kneed a headset for a 3/4 helmet, full face helmet or what. Any info would be greatly appreciated. David

  7. I have a 3/4 and a full face helmet that I wear (one at a time of course) depending on the temperature, etc. But recently I have been considering a modular. Any of you ride with one and how do you like it? Thanks
  8. Anyone have an XL modular helmet they don't like/want?
