  1. Please excuse my ignorance, I'm a Goldwing owner and not that familiar with the RSV. I'd like to know what are the differences in the later years of the second gen. Particularly in the audio and electronics. I ask this because I want to know if Mic-Mutes works on the most recent model years of the second generation. I haven't heard of any application problems yet but I'd like to know.
  2. Just wanted to let you all know that I will have 4 sets of Mic-Mutes available at Maintenance Day. Bill won't be able to make it this year but has mailed me 4 sets for the RSV if any of you need one. The price is $139.95 so you can be prepared. It is a great product.
  3. I won't be able to attend MD this year, but I sent 4 Mic-Mutes kits for the RSV to Freebird. If you want Mic-Mutes it is $139.95.
  4. Here is a pretty darn good video showing the installation of the Mic-Mute on a Honda Goldwing. Many of us here have the Mic-Mute on our Royal Star Ventures and I honestly think that it is one of the best things you can do to improve the audio system on these bikes. The installation is obviously different on the RSV but the components and operation is pretty much the same. On the RSV, you have to split the fairing but it's really a pretty simple installation. Also, we already have the passenger push to talk switch. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvBfCKVT_PM&feature=player_embedded]Mic-Mutes Install on 2012 Honda Goldwing GL1800 - YouTube[/ame]
  5. Do you have any of these items collecting dust ? I'd be interested in helping you clean out the parts bin. Looking for chrome parts to dress up a 2008 RSV trike. Also looking for mic-mutes (4) Buddy Rich cable (1) Lower Wind Deflectors, chrome rear fender tips
  6. I'm sorry that I can't make to MD. It seems that my wife made other plans for me. I'd rather be at MD than at a family picnic :>( I may be able to get Mic-Mutes kit to Don's house if you act ASAP. If there are 3 or more people interested in having Mic-Mutes kits, I'll deliver them to Don's house on Saturday morning .Call me on my cell phone and I'll see what I can do to get you a Mic-Mutes kit by Saturday. 724-312-3723
  7. I won't be able to attend MD this year and bring Mic-Mutes kits with me, due to my wife making other plans for me. I'd rather be with you than at this family picnic :>( If your interested in Mic-Mutes, get in touch ASAP and I'll have it shipped to Freebird's. There will be plenty of folks there to help with installations. 412-787-1182
  8. I'll have a limited supply of Royal Star Venture Mic-Mutes kits @ MD. I'll also have Mic-Mutes kits for the GL1800 Gold Wing and for the J&M CB JMCB-2003-DU. I'm no longer able to accept credit cards at MD. I can though accept CCs thru a PayPal email invoice or also on my website. Cash is always best though. If you know that you'll want to install Mic-Mutes @ MD. let me know so that I may reserve one of the RSV Mic-Mutes kits for you. I can also bring GL1500 Gold Wing and Valkyrie Interstate Mic-Mutes kits by request, but I don't intend to have those kits if no one asks in advance. Price is: $139.95 for GL1800, GL1500, RSV or Valkrie Interstate. $154.95 for GL1800+CB PTT switch, GL1500+CB PTT switch, Valk+CB PTT switch $119.95 for the JMCB-2003-DU I'm not charging for installation, nor am I performing installations. I'll be glad to help and direct you to do it. Like last year I'm sure that there will also be plenty of others willing to lend a hand as well. Hope to see you there! Bill Morphy www.Mic-Mutes.com
  9. I really need to do something about the constant engine/pipe noise when I'm riding with my wife. I've seen posts about both quiet mics and mic-mutes. Is one better that the other? Is there a preference here to one over the other. Thanks.
  10. I don't have factory fitted CB on my Venture (different laws in Oz)but have Ed-Sets for helmets, and Bill Morphy at Mic-mutes told us how to get around the "no CB" problem and install the mic-mutes too. My question is: How could we install portable (hand held) CB unit on the handlebar of my bike, to hook up to intercom system?????? Can anyone recommend good ones? Then later on would look to have CB set up (linked) on Quicksteps bike for rider to rider communication????
  11. Okay, as some of you know I ordered Ed-sets and Mic-mutes only to discover that Venture's didn't come into Oz with the CB. Bill Morphy gave great help to me so I could still install the mic-mutes. He suggested I get PTT buttons from AirRider. They changed their whole system on site so I could order from over here, and didn't charge enough shipping. Can't go back into their system and send the extra (was done with creditcard) SO:Can someone help me?? I can paypal the funds ($US21.02) if someone can forward it on to the contact there.
  12. As I have posted before I purchased Ed-sets and Mic-mutes for the Quike. I then found no CB on my bike:doh: After emailing Bill Morphy at Ed-sets, he suggested a company where I could purchase CB PTT buttons and still be able to use his Mic-mutes. A member on here, Steve Neal contacted AirRider.com and gave me direct email contact with a Mr Tracy Rogers. I was unable to buy online as their system would not allow me to fill in shipping for Australia. Well, he spoke to their administrator -- and they changed the whole system to allow me to order on line So just wanted to let you know about a good U.S. company :clap2:
  13. Hi All, After purchasing the Ed-set intercom set up and the Mic-mutes stupid me found I don't have the factory CB installed on my bike :bang head: I contacted Bill Morphy by email and asked for advice, and he has suggested a way to still hook up the mic-mutes to the system. I need to purchase rider and passenger "push to talk" buttons from AirRider.com in Ooltewah TN but they don't ship to Australia Their site won't let me create an account Can any one help me to get these.
  14. Are all of these work together? I have just purchased the Zumo and ordered the buddyrich cable to use with te cell phone. I was considering the mic-mutes before going to the rally this year, but I want to make sure the I can still use the Mic-Mutes with the buddy rich cable.
  15. I'm going to buy a set of mic mutes at maintenance day. I asked Bill Morphy with mic-mutes if he would help with installation. He said he had only installed on a gold wing. Anyone with mic mutes on their venture be willing to help?
  16. I'll be on hand to help install Mic-Mutes @ MD. I'll have 10 or so Mic-Mutes kits with me. www.Mic-Mutes.com Bill Morphyu
  17. I was wandering if I could get some feedback about how to eliminate background noise such as engine whine and wind noise in my headsets? It seems like the noise at times is worst than others. I have read earlier about some riders using the product made by Mic-Mutes. Is this the best thing to use or is there other things I might need to do? Thanks:mustache:
  18. Ok, I talked to Bill Morphy who builds the Mic-mutes. He says I have microphonics!!!! This is not life threatning , nor will I need antibiotics. But I'm P.O.'d nonetheless. This is a follow up thread to the mic-mute one I did a couple days ago. I did a test in the garage. Turn the key to accessory, leave motor off, turned on the stereo, turned down the sound of the music audio to zero. Turned the IC up to 20 with helmet plugged in and then toggled the PTT. The mic would mute but there was still a ton of white noise (background noise, static, whatever you want to call it) Would those of you with mic-mutes try this test and tell me if you have this same noise. I'm about ready to get ahold of Yamaha mothership if my case is unique and ask about warranty replacement. Your help with this test would be greatly appreciated. Look forward to your input. P.S. if your interested......look up "microphonics" under google or more bike specific to a "goldwing microphonics" search. Thanks for your input. Jim
  19. We had a Great Ride yesterday, 246miles:cool10: My face got blistered, so must have had a great time... Dummy me, had the sunscreen in the saddle bag..didn`t know I had to actually put it on.... any way, all was great except for the wind and road noise through the headsets was real bad, bad enough that we finally just unplugged them. Well I ordered the Mic-Mutes this morning.. no more unwanted noise, I hope, and all that I have heard about them, is that they are great.... If it makes Lil Tex happy then everyone will be happy:). When I get them I will use Dons post to install and let ya`ll know how it goes!! Have a Great Day
  20. Mic-Mutes Installation Mic-Mutes is a product designed and marketed by VentureRider member Bill Morphy. This is a fantastic product and one of the best things I have done to my audio system. The one thing I have always disliked about the intercom system on the RSV is the fact that the mic is always on. In order to communicate with my wife, I need to set the IC volume on at LEAST 14 and that is borderline if you are in a noisy area or running at freeway speeds. Any higher though and the wind noise picked up by the mics is really a bother, not to mention that it severely degrades the music quality. Mic-Mutes solves this problem with a totally integrated system which allows you to toggle the mics on and off by using the push to talk buttons for the CB radio. Operation is very simple...just press and release either button (front or rear) to turn both mics on. To turn them off, just press and release either button again. To use the CB...simply toggle the mics on and then press to talk as you normally would. After using this system, I can honestly say that no RSV should be without it. This is a quality product at a fair price and not difficult to install. The hardest part of the installation is stripping the bike down and getting it ready. This is not difficult but a bit time consuming. You will need to split the fairing, remove the seat, remove the gas tank. The Mic-Mutes comes with a small black module that will need to be placed either under the seat or near the battery area. I placed the module just behind the battery. Look carefully and you'll see it in this picture. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic10.jpg The wiring is pretty simple and mostly plug and play. Under the rear seat, on the left side, you will see a 5 pin din connector. Simply unplug the connector and plug one of the included headset adapters in line with the separated plugs. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic1.jpg Now you will do the same thing with the 5 pin din connector inside the fairing. There are 5 of these connectors inside the fairing, you want the one that is marked with the red tape. Simply unplug that connector and plug the other headset adapter in line as you did on the rear. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic2.jpg Integrated into each headset adapter, you will see the telephone type jacks. There are two control module cables that come out of the black module. You will want to run the long one to the front jack and the short one to the rear jack. The best way to run the cable is along with the other wiring going to the front of the bike. As you can see in the following picture, there is a guard over the top of the wire way that you will want to remove to run the wires to the front. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic3.jpg After the wires are run, just plug them into the jacks. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic4.jpg http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic5.jpg Now that the headset adapters are installed and connected to the control cable, we have to connect the module to the passengers audio controller. This too is done under the rear seat. On the right side of the bike, near the trunk, is a 6-pin connector. Mic-Mutes supplies a tap slice connector to make an easy splice to this wire but I prefer soldered connections. Whichever way you decide to do it, you want to splice the yellow wire from the Mic-Mutes module to the green wire of the bikes connector. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic6.jpg The next picture shows my connection soldered. Then just tape it up well and this part is done. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic7.jpg The last step is to connect the power to the module. Most of you know that there is an unused power circuit under the seats of these bikes. It is located on the left side of the battery on the left side of the bike. It is simply two wires with a white connector which is not connected to anything. This is the easiest place to connect the power to the Mic-Mutes module. Again, Mic-Mutes supplies tap splice connectors for this splice but I chose to just cut the factory white connector off and use butt splices to connect the power. Very simple. http://www.venturerider.org/micmute/pic8.jpg That's it folks. Just put everything back together and test. Mine worked perfectly and does exactly what it is advertised to do. Try it, you will like it. For more information or to order, check it out at http://mic-mutes.com/
