My rear tire, a Metzeler ME880. 8 or so of the lugs are starting to lift. The damage is visible inside the carcass as raised lumps, but they are too slight to photograph. These tires were on the motorcycle when I bought it so I don't know if they were abused or the mileage. They have about half the tread left.

Last year I had a Metzeler tire start cracking pretty bad. After a 3 week fight with them and threatening to go on every forum in the country and telling about it they finally had Parts Unlimited ( their USA distributer) send me a new tire. I kept it in the original wrapper until about a month ago when the Avon I had replaced the first one with wore out. Now after 2400 miles the brand new Metzeler is starting to crack down at the bottom of the treads. Metzeler has started putting the air pressures on the first page of their website and I had aired it to that recommendation. (45 rear 40 front). This tire and the first tire were both made in Germany. I am going to call and tell them about it but at this point if they offered me 10 new tires I wouldn't take them. My Dr 650 has Metzelers on it but it is so light I'm sure they will be fine.

on our way down to Dons Maintenance day, my friends rear Metzeler tire rubber tread separated from the inner plys. this tire was only 8 months old and had lots of tread left on it. he was very fortunate that it did not let go out on the highway. we had stopped in Fredonia, New York on friday night. when we got up Saturday morning, we pulled out of the hotel parking lot, drove down the road and he had to pull over as there was a big lump of bulging rubber hanging out the left side of the rear tire and the rear end of the bike was wagging left and right. we found a bike repair place, had his bike trailered to the repair shop, had a new Dunlop installed and then proceeded fashionably late down to Maintenance Day.

A while back I posted about a failing Metzeler tire. Wizard said that I was running to low an air pressure. Although I never could access the page he referred to the customer service rep at Metzeler said 49 lbs. the second time I asked. I have recieved a new tire after a battle with them. I am willing to try again at the higher pressure. They need to improve their website. I would have been running at the higher pressure all along if I had known. The local dealer said the tire was defective and then after talking to Parts Unlimited who is the distributer fo the US he changed his tune and was trying to make me buy a new tire and send the old one off for inspection. I already had a Avon on the way so I put it on and and gave the old one to the dealer. We waited for a Parts Unlimited rep to come by and look at it. When he finally did he said it was road hazard and wasn't covered. I took back the evidence and called Metzeler. They said that with road hazard there would be evidence inside the tire. The tire is perfect on the inside and I knew I hadn't hit anything. After I told the Metzeler rep that he finally agreed to order me a new tire. I have come to the conclusion that I personally don't trust Parts Unlimited although it evidently is hard to deal with motorcycle stuff and not deal with them even if your not aware of it. It will probably be next summer before I need to mount the new Metzeler. I will watch it close and I am hoping that eventually I can post that it wore out normally.
