Folks, I got a message from a member here telling me that his subscription is about to expire. That concerns me because his membership is good through April of next year and the automated reminders here do NOT go out until a few days before your memberships expire. Has anybody else here gotten such an email way ahead of your expiration date? If so, please let me know. It causes me to wonder if somebody is attempting to scam our members.

This day last year I bought my Gen 1 as a Christmas Present to myself. Today also marks my 1 year anniversary as a Venture Rider. The bike has gone through a lot of changes since I bought her, thanks to the help of members here. Huge transformation from the leaky, dirty, mangy rat I picked up. I want to thank everybody here for the plethora of information, ideas, & assistance. NOW, since today is also my membership renewal date, how do you renew? I don't see a renew membership button. Do you just drop a note to Don? Andy

Would it be possible to have a report abuse button added to the threads ? There are certain people on here that go out of their way to insult others on this forum. Such action should not be tolerated and can only lead to bad feelings and possible loss of our membership. One site I visit has this button. When a member reports an abuse, a moderator views it, decides if it was a verbal abuse, then if it was, deletes it and notifies the offending party. If the same person has to be warned multiple times, they loose their membership.

Yesterday my son asked why I didn't do something useful with my time. He suggested I go down to the senior center and hang out with the guys. I did this and when I got home last night I told him that I had joined a parachute club. He said, "Are you nuts? You're almost 62 years old and you're going to start jumping out of airplanes?" I proudly showed him that I even got a membership card. He said to me, "Good grief, where are your glasses! This is a membership to a Prostitute Club, not a Parachute Club." I'm in trouble again, and I don't know what to do... I signed up for five jumps a week. Life as a senior citizen is not getting any easier.

Hey all, I had a quick question about membership dues. It would seem to me that, with 13,078 members, at $12 per member per year, that's $156,936 per year. WOW! Quite a lucrative business you've got here! I considered it was possible that, of the listed members, only a portion of them were actual paying members, and the rest were a rotating batch of trial members. I don't know how your member counter works. In any case, figuring on the extreme lean side, let's say that only 1% of that total, or 130 members, were paying crew. That would bring the annual funds to $1,570. Not bad for a gig that's essentially a hobby. Granted, that's not accounting for expenses (webhosting, cost of software, upkeep, etc), which, for your average vBulletin board (which are generally FREE access) should amount to about $50/month. That takes but a sliver out of the potential pot of dues coming in. As for the rest... where does it all go?

Anybody seen a copy of one of these videos lately? Trying to figure out where these two (or three?) disks currently reside is confusing, to say the least.....so I thought, out of purely selfish interests, I'd figure out where the one that used to be in Canada went. I went through all the posts (all 340 of them) and determined that the copy that was in Canada back in 2008 was mailed to Australia to a guy named "spear"(Steve Pearson)....(by a guy named Lepapehermann.) Spear mailed it all the way back to "spankym" (Craig MacFarlane, in Buffalo....wow, what a trip), who posted that he received it on April 28th, 2009. Craig/spankym is then instructed by KiteSquid in a post dated May 7, 2009 to send his copy to r12guy...which seems a little strange since there is nobody listed with that name anywhere on "The List" (nor does he exist on the membership list now.) Then, on May 18th, 2009, Craig posts that he "Sent my copy on to r12guy.....hope he enjoys it." (So, apparently there WAS an r12guy back then.) Then, next day, May 19th, Kitesquid instructs r12guy to send his copy "to Annie in Rockingham, Perth Australia". (Wow....this video would really be racking up frequent flyer miles if it HAD been shipped back to Oz"!) However, that's the last we ever hear of this copy of the DVD......or r12guy......or Annie. There is no one listed in the club membership named r12guy. There is no one listed in the club membership named Annie, in Rockingham, Perth Australia. So, I guess whoever r12guy is/was, he has our copy of Ride Like a Pro. Anybody know who he is/was? Thanks for any helpful detective teamwork! Mike

I received my renewal notice email on the 14th of this month (six days ago). Been on the run for the last few days and haven't had a chance to renew or return to the site. So tonight I tried to check in and had a red banner across the top saying that my trial membership would expire in 1123 days. Also noticed that my welcome box said my Private Message box was full. Even though that little box at the bottom of the page said I could reply, edit and post, when I tried to post something I got the screen that I didn't have the proper permissions to perform this action. OK I get the hint...Logged out and sent in my dues. Now all is right with the world. My only thought is "less than Six Days and you're shut off? And for a returning 4 year membership? Geese, new members get more slack than that.

A lot of your memberships are coming due during this month and next. I'm getting quite a few emails from people asking me when their dues are due. If you go to the UserCP and then scroll down and click on "subscriptions", it will show when your current membership expires. You should receive an automated email a few days before your memberships are up for renewal. You may renew anytime you wish though. If you renew early, you will NOT lose any months. A year is just added to your current expiration date.

Well, I went and switched to a GL1800, I've had it about 10 days now. Lower seat and center of gravity, a lot easier for me to handle, especially two-up. Maybe more about that later. Now to the subject of this thread. I signed on to a couple of Gold Wing forum sites, looking for hints, advice, places to buy safety chrome, etc. So I started a thread at this one site with the subject box content "Wingstuff.com". I proceeded to ask if anyone used them to buy goodies and what they thought about their prices, service, etc.--- Same kind of stuff we discuss here all the time. HAH! I got several decent responses, then all hell broke loose. It seems as though the reason that there is no membership fee (in other words free) is because the site is owned and paid for by a big aftermarket vendor. Yes, I said owned. They are a full blown "have almost everything" vendor. On the home page their banner shows as a sponsor, not "owner", with some smaller banner sponsors also shown. The smaller ones are not directly competitive with the owner, that is not allowed. They offer different goods and/or services. Now comes the good part. The moderator works for the vendor! So, along with him, several members unloaded on me for daring to mention a competitor on their site. After a lot of bantering, name calling and expressions of ill will, the thread got deleted. Some of the other members expressed some support for the "newbie" and some thought the others were way too harsh, but the end result is you must conform to their rules. My way or go away. Be very pleased and happy to pay your $12 a year and have a site that is "by the membership, for the membership"! This site occasionally has some minor conflicts and the boss has to step in, but believe me, this place is wonderful compared to what I have just experienced. I know that there are some really good guys on that site, but I ain't gonna be there. Congratulations to the members, moderators, and administrators of this site. An enjoyable place to visit. I have totally enjoyed being a member here. I'm done.

When I look at the "Current Active Users" I'm always surprised by how many "Guests" are logged on. I would think that for a lousy 12 bucks they would become active members and enjoy all of the priveleges of full membership. I suppose we all started out as "Guests", but it seems odd that they out-number the members by such a large margin. Just sayin'.

Wow, it's been a short year! I just logged on after a 5 week out of town trip and there was a message at the top saying that my 'trial membership' has expired! I thought it was just a fluke and it would go away the next day. - Wrong. So, I got to thinking about it and I just KNEW that my membership couldn't have expired, I just did it late last year. So, I was going to contact Freebird and let him know that my membership is logging wrong. - But, just for giggles, I checked my PayPal receipts and sure enough, my time was up. So, I paid my dues and am ready for another year! Time sure does fly when you are having fun. craigr

I'm not a computer wizz by any stretch. I'm much better with a wrench than a keyboard but, I've picked up on some computer words that "make me wonder". Could an exploding "cookie" be placed on a non-members computer so that on the 13th day it would disintegrate filling the hard drive with crumbs and disabling the "disk cleanup"? A warning of an upcoming chocolate chip disaster could automatically be placed on a "pop-up" that would give time for the user to "up-date" by sending $12.00 for membership. Should the non-member disregard the "pop-up" and the impending 13 day "cookie" doomsday occurs, $12.00 could be sent and upon recpt. an automatic "disk cleanup" could be sent saving one a very expensive house call ! "Makes me wonder" Come'on folks, $12.00 is only 3 Latte's and and a "whole cookie". Renne

What gives..... Mini Stats 5,976 0 Members Entries 18,933 0 Threads Reviews 180,340 17 Posts Polls 0 0 Content Files 51 0 Links Ads

While mooching around on the web...yes I do go to other sites once in a while... I ran acrossed this chart on the IIHS web site. Interesting and eye opening. I realize the info is a couple of years old, but the percentages seems to stay about the same over a 5 year period even though the numbers have increased. In the cruiser catagory, the largest group represented, and crunching out the numbers, we had 1,583 deaths in 2005. And if that holds true in our 5,000 membership board we can potentially expect a little under 3 to die. In the touring catagory, taking an estimated WAS, we'd loose 1. Not a pleasant thought. So be really carefull out there......
