Given the risk of injury we face as motorcycle riders, it is comforting to know the technology available to today's orthopedic surgeons. This is a great animated film. Anyone have medical insurance on their motorcycle policy? Vaguely remember hearing about one for an additional $100... Just how good/what is covered on this?. Paying for my own coverage but have 5000 deductable with 80/20 split after that, so, a medical bill of 105,000 would end up costing me $25,000...

Bubba walked into a doctor's office and the receptionist asked him what he had. Bubba said: 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his name, address, medical insurance number and told him to have a seat. Fifteen minutes later a nurse's aide came out and asked Bubba what he had... Bubba said, 'Shingles.' So she wrote down his height, weight, a complete medical history and told Bubba to wait in the examining room. A half hour later a nurse came in and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, 'Shingles..' So the nurse gave Bubba a blood test, a blood pressure test, an electrocardiogram, and told Bubba to take off all his clothes and wait for the doctor. An hour later the doctor came in and found Bubba sitting patiently in the nude and asked Bubba what he had. Bubba said, 'Shingles.' The doctor asked, 'Where?' Bubba said, 'Outside on the truck. Where do you want me to unload 'em??'

The other day I was going through some old photos of me in another life and came accross one of me at 18 just made me wonder about life and how we go through it and never really stop and wonder how we got here. I thought I was worldly then but that was before Nam and a life time of work and relationship friends and family. The things we learn and experiance can never be fully communicated. Now at 60 there are medical issues that gives me pause about the future. One thing for sure I'll ride till I can't throw a leg over. Thanks all for listening and being in my life.

As a couple of you may know, I was laid off my job Christmas week 2009. I have tried everything I could think of to find a job with almost zero luck. I worked a few weeks on an assembly line putting together electronics items for military hummers. Very hard work... very low pay... I just could not find anyone who was willing to hire a 55yr old, over qualified, over experienced, over eager medical imaging engineer. So I decided to make a go of it on my own. The opportunities were good, but the bureaucracy was greater. How do you float a 4 million dollar liability bond when you are unemployed? You don't. So that cut my opportunities by 90%. Still I managed to find enough work to keep my head above water. I had secured a contract to work for a local small service company that has kept the lights on and food on the table. Today that contract turned into a full time job with the company! It is far from the six figures I was making but will certainly turn into an adequate salary. With this will come medical insurance and the ability to allow my Navigator to retire. Just like so many others, it has been a hard 10-12 months. Finally, some breathing room...

It seems most states are considering medical pot and a few legalization. I am not a future customer because I have enough trouble remembering where my keys are and I never want to listen to the Beatles White album again. I have been in public safety for 30+ years and honestly, after going to 1000's of medical calls, I cannot remember a single call as a result of marijuana usage. Although I have gone to vehicle accidents with pot involved, trust me though... nothing causes as many accidents as cell phones and texting. We go to calls every day for all other sorts of drugs including alcohol. We have a very big prison here and I would estimate 20% of the inmates were incarcerated for a 2nd or more pot offense. It seems to me not all these people need to be in prison. What do you think http://shellgames.files.wordpress.com/2008/11/old_hippie_very_old_hippies_1.jpg

I need help in getting a copy or two of the November 2009 Marine Leatherneck magazine. It's not something that I can just walk into the local Barnes & Noble and purchase. There is an article in the magazine called Vietnam: Last Full Measure of Devotion by Dick Camp. This is important to me since this is the first published account and public statment that my brother survived the initial crash and was not KIA as all the officical military records show - other than his medical records. If you read the article my brother was the one found alive in the Huey, although he did die later waiting for medical treatment. Any suggestions and help in getting a copy of the magazine would be wonderful. This is the link to the article if anyone would like to read it. http://www.mca-marines.org/leatherneck/nov09-last_full_measure_of_devotion.asp

From time to time it is necessary to negotiate payments with bill collectors. I am talking about those unexpected medical bills that can pile up from just a few visits to the clinic.I have learned to negotiate quickly with these people since they have the power to file judgments, garnish wages, and even send out private investigators to find you and your assets. Our major medical insurance is just that. Major medical with a $2500 deductible per person. So those normal routine services and minor medical procedures are billable.I called today and negotiated a payment plan for 3 accounts from last month. The good news is these negotiated payments are interest free. The bad news is I'm paying for inflated services. After all a clinic is a business and those who don't pay and have nothing of value their loss is past on to me. At least thats the way I see it.Nothing like unexpected bills to crash the budget.

Been looking at Medical ID's thinking about buying one for myself (hypothyroidism). Also thinking about purchasing one for my Mother who is diabete, taking Coumadin and other meds. After doing some looking found temporary tattoos That are said to last around 3 days. http://www.medawareid.com/. Plus now have the idea of just getting a real tattoo with the medical symbol. Instead of having to remember to put it on. But where to place it. Is there a special place that emt and doctors look? just a idea.

Attached is a medical info form that we should all carry in case something happens to either yourself our passenger. This form can save a life Please use it.... :223: Here is a quote from an Ironbutt rider that was in a serious crash (He also happens to be Vice Admiral & Surgeon General for the US Navy). "I carry all my emergency personal and medical information in the left chest pocket of my Aerostich and have written “Emergency Info This Pocket” on the flap. The paramedics and hospital emergency staff said this helped them a lot, especially before I regained consciousness."
