"What is the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers? Mechanical engineers build weapons. Civil engineers build targets." I thought this was very appropriate for our family. Matt the Mech. Eng. works at General Dynamics (armoured personnel carriers) and his wife Val the Civil Eng. works for the MTO (Hwy. Bridges etc.)

Hi boys and girls! Been a while for me! I was involved in another car wreck in June 2011, shortly after we had the mini maintenance day. I was in a car, not the bike! Long story short... I have been unable to ride, and the bike has been sittin. I'm sort of at a crossroads with my bike. I either need to try to ride again, and overcome the mental block of something bad is going to happen, or just sell her and let someone else enjoy her. Anyhow, I replaced the battery, and she'll turn over and run, but only for a few seconds. I'm not very mechanical, but I think it may be fuel pump / filter related. I've searched the library, but cannot find a copy of the service manual, only the owner's manual. Can anyone take the time to walk me through where to start ? I appreciate all of your help !! AJ

My searching skills may need some work, but I can't find it. Can someone post the instructions on how to do a carb sync on a 2nd Gen. Please keep in mind my mechanical ability is such that the instructions really need to be written in crayon. Thanks!

Has anyone put a mechanical oil gauge on a 1st gen? Where would be a good place to tap into a oil feed location. I am looking at tapping into the line that comes out of the 'Twinkie' and runs to each cylinder head. Any better suggestion? Gary

I have an '83 std Venture. When it's mid-30ish degrees or below, the tach is very sluggish and won't read above 3K rpm's. This concerns me because I currently commute an hour each way to work in mid to low 20 degrees. I found one other thread about this, but didn't see any conclusive fix. Is the tach mechanical, drive via cable from the drive train, or electronic, driven from the computer board in the dash? Does anyone have a good fix? Thank you!! Doug

Is there anyone here in the Northern Va area that is good at working on the Yamaha's? I'm leery of the local shops and would like to find someone to help with some things. Carb sync and things such as that. I'm willing to pay if you're available.
