  1. I have a set of Venture passenger hand holds on my RSTD. I'm getting ready to take a crack at a quick release trunk mount, but don't want to lose some form of hand grip for my passenger. Making the bracket / hand hold bar is no big issue, but what do people use for some form of non slip surface? I have seen the material for tools that you dip the handles of pliers (for example) into it. And, I have seen truck bed liner material in a can. Has anyone tried either of these for hand holds on a bike?
  2. Last week while at B2Dad's M & E I lost a concho off one of my mud flaps so had to look for a replacement. Couldn't find anything matching the originals so ordered some online. I went from a plain concho to a star with engraved ring and also changed the black fringe to red, then found some red vinyl material as a backing for some nice contrast. Minimum order was a 10 pack & since I needed 6 to have a full set of matching that worked out OK. Once I got the replacements done and having a few extra I decided to get creative with the air cleaner. Larry
  3. The black plastic on my bike has white splotches on it. See picture. I have tried various cleaners, rubbing compounds, and polish to get it off but nothing has touched it. Is this normal for the aging material and other than paint, is there a way to get it black again? Ray
  4. I am in the process of digging down to check valve clearances on 02 venture. Want to wait and see if they need adjusted before borrowimg the tool. However, noticed the rubber intake between Carb and head have what seem to me to be substantial cracking in the material. Should I go ahead and replace them or is this semi normal aging Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk
  5. So I've read some of the repair methods/suggestions...if I understand correctly, these parts are made of ABS?? If that's correct, can I use ABS pipe material (used in plumbing) as "filler"?
  6. Hello: Does anyone work around thick plastics? I am looking for a piece of 3/4" solid black plastic material 15"X15" for a motorcycle related project. Thanks
  7. I wanted to show what the Volusia's clutch plates wound up looking like when I took them out. I have two words: Crispy Smooth. The order of removal goes from first one out on the top left progressing right to the last one out (TM-1b) on the bottom right. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6107.jpg Also, ignore the shredded gasket material, that came out after the removal of the plates. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6109.jpg Closeup of 13 and 12. Some friction material, but not much. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6110.jpg 11 and 10, smooooooth. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6111.jpg 9 and 8, also very smooth http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6112.jpg 7 and 6. 7's not so bad Actually had quite a bit of Friction material left. Just cooked. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6113.jpg 6 (again) and 5. Five coulda been worse too. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6114.jpg 4 and 3 http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v281/GAWildKat/Volusia%20Intruder/Burnt%20Clutch/IMG_6115.jpg And finally, 2 and TM-1b. So those are my deep fried, oil battered plates. Whatcha think? Now 5th gear actually feels like a 5th gear with acceleration all its own and not just a weaker version of 4th gear...if that makes any sense to y'all.
  8. Hi!, My name is Larry and I live in the Bootheel of Missouri. A month ago I traded my 1300c for a 06 rsmtd. The 06 had 3300 miles on it and I consider it as close to new as you could get. It does have the loud clutch chirp, which I will deal with later. This site has been a great help in learning about the new bike (to me). I have added the Harley lic. plate bracket and lights and I have a set of RK mufflers to add. My question is: How do you save the soft gasket material that is around the head pipe? or do you just buy new if you decide to put the stock pipes back on. I will be adding more to the profile soon. And thanks for all of your help. Larry
  9. Anyone ever repacked their aftermarket exhausts? Specifically Bub's..., but I imagine they're all similar.. I picked up a set of Bub's from another member in the classy's. They were cheap and as described. The bodies are very nice, but the chrome tips are flaking chrome big time. They're now torn apart and sitting in the office. (see pics) [Gonna try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear here... ] The packing was gone other than a few tufts, and I'm not sure if the tufts are original material or?? I did find some universal fiberglass packing material at Cruiser Customizing that will probably work. The chromed tips look like they have corroded to the point that they will not come off the baffle flange. The tips are aluminum so I think it's probably galvanic corrosion. Any ideas on how to seperate them, or should I leave well enough alone and see if I can scrape the rest of the chrome off and polish or maybe paint??
  10. The BUB's on my 03 RSV had been getting louder and this season the packing must have eaten itself because they sound louder then ever. On the Venturers site someone posted a pictorial on how to repack them and what to buy, which I did. I also took this opp to paint the peeling chrome tips flat black. I bought two kits from Moose Products, $25 each. Each kits comes with stainless steel screen material, stainless steel padding and a lot of fiberglass matting. For Bub's, there is way more then enough fiberglass material in one kit for both mufflers but not enough of the other material. It did come with replacement rivets, that was appreciated. $50 though? Not again. Anyway, it was easy, only requiring the rubber mallet and a good amount of persuasion to get the baffle out of the shell but they eventually gave way, then the tips popped off the baffles easily. I expected better results through. 11. First, I would like to thank Monty for the basic idea which I then modified. I have attached pictures of the the final product: somewhat crude but functional..the back plate is removable for winter riding. Currently, vent pointing downward but can be removed and turned 180 degree for warm air upwards..... Material: Aluminum flashing----$10.00 Aluminum Vent-------$ 2.00 Hardest part was making a template: first paper and then basic template in aluminum...and lots of patient and trimming.
  12. Anybody have a set of Baron 4-2-4s that can take a pic of a baffle? Even a description would be a lot of help. I picked up a set of used 4-2-4s last fall. They look great on the bike, but there's one small problem. No baffles. Yowie zowie, those things are loud! There's no way Irene and I can go touring with straight pipes and hear ourselves think five minutes into the ride, much less at the end of the day. I cut off a set of "standard" baffles so they'd fit and added wire extensions that run up into the pipes. I wrapped those with packing material. Now the sound is satisfactory, nearly stock in fact, but I'm afraid I have too much back pressure. I'm considering taking them out and reworking the packing material for more exhaust flow. A little more sound would be ok too. I'm basically wondering if I'm going in the right direction. Can anyone offer any guidance?
  13. has any one tried or sprayed the spray on bed liner on the inside of there Piggy backer trailer??? Just wondering if it would be compatable with the material that the Piggy Backer is made from, I don`t want to turn it to Jello....
  14. Cleaned up the garage today and found an assortment of stuff from my Venture that I no longer need. I make no promises about any quality. It all free to whoever wants it, you pay the shipping or we arrange a meet. There is a larger chunk of plastic that I had used as repair material....probably a litle ackward to ship, although not heavy. Let me know if you want any of it...if not it's in Thursday's garbage pickup.
  15. I have the Hopnel tank bib and trunk bib on my '99 but I have something else in mind and would like to match that fabric. It is a basket weave vinyl material. Do any of you know where I might be able to find some of it?
  16. I am leaving Sunday on a trip from Texas to AZ and the Grand Canyon. w00t! I saw via another thread that some states have requirements for retroreflective material on helmets, and that got me wondering. Are there any laws in NM and AZ that I should be aware of? Dave
  17. Since I started looking for new lids, I have come across Carbon Fiber HJC with both DOT/Snell approvals. They fit well, just looking for any other input related to the Carbon material? Any issues on this rather new material for helmet use? Very light weight is a benefit, Cost is the down side. As always, appreciate the input for the riders here on the site. Thanks,
  18. I ordered a new 14 x 11 inch Seat pad with the " Viscoelastic molded Gell insert " as used in medical and sports applications From: http://www.amspecialtiesusa.com/gelpad.htm This is not the old standard, " Gel " material. Should be here tomorrow, and will get to testing it, and post the results. They also sell 3/4 inch Slabs of the material, for $56, if you want to redo your own seat !! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also: Another project started, ----- I ordered from www.superbrightleds.com -- ----- 2 of their LED packs. 36 bulb, 1 1/2 inch , flat , square 1157 Replacement Bulb units. P/N 1157-PCB-R36 Red Led Lamp, narrow beam, $9.95 each. On my 89, I am going to try to mount them INSIDE, the Center Reflector section, just to the left and right of the Rear Turn Signals. I will wire, Both Sections of the new 1157, To the Brake Lights. This will give me 2extra brake lights, they should be Bright. I'm not sure yet if this will work, but will give it a try. I allready put LED 1157 Replacement bulbs in the OEM Tail light, They seem to work OK, I got those bulbs at local Shucks auto parts. All this if anybody is interested, otherwise have a Beer !!
  19. I was just doing some research on Driveing, and Fog Lamps. I stumbled on this web site, which has some very good basic Information concerning Light Bulbs. May be of Interest: As refference material. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/products/products.html
  20. I would like to replace the walls on my little camper that I pull behind the bike. It is a Travelite, I believe, and I think they are no longer in business. I probably need about 12 square yards. Any suggestions on what would work good and where I could get some material? RandyA
  21. Hey folks, I'm the Safety Manager here where I work. We are a foundry, and I buy Kevlar coats and chaps for the guys to prevent burns. The supplier sent us some chaps that were too long so I had to cut a foot off of them to make them fit. I was thinking that this material would work great for someone to make a pair of draggin' jeans if they were skilled with a sewing machine. The material is Carbon/Kevlar and is 12"x26". Should be enough to cover the seat and knees of a pair of jeans. If you want it, I'll be happy to send it to you free of charge. Figured it beats throwing it away. 22. Question: ??? OK, I have a Corbin Seat for my Busa. I like the Shape of the seat, but its just to Darn Hard !! Only good for about 2 hours of rideing ( even at Busa Speeds !! ) I bought it on E-Bay, for a good price, so I don't have a fortune invested in the thing. I'm looking at the seat, and realize it won't be to hard to remove the Cover ( which is very good material ) and Replace whatever padding material is in there. Anybody out there have the Answer as to What type of Material I should try to use to replace the inner padding material with. Foam rubber, ?? What type ?? Where to get it ?? Is there a someplace on line that sells Seat padding material ?? I'm all Ears, if anybody has any suggestions -----
  23. During the maintenance day at Don's, a few folks were telling me about some material that could be used to repair the plastic on the Ventures. I did not take any notes and memory being what it is (or in my case - isn't), I do not remember what the stuff was called or where you could get it. Anyone out there remember this conversation or the material mentioned? Thanks ahead of time.
  24. I was just given a set of Bub Sleeper Mufflers that are in great shape except for the chrome end caps (Chrome peeling). I have taken them apart and removed the end caps. I have (2) questions. 1) Does anyone know a good way to remove the chrome ? It doesn't look like it was applied correctly in the first place. I am looking to have them powder coated w/ a high temperature black satin finish. I think it will look sharp on my 05 RSTD (Black/Gray). 2) The packing material inside was almost gone, what is the material used ? Can anyone help with this ? Will
  25. Hey Folks, I have been wanting to talk with all the 2nd Genners who are interested in the Roadking muffler brackets. I have been out for a while and not able to make any since the accident. I have had a few that needed finishing, but they have been spoken for since the beginning of the year. I want to talk about the brackets themselves for a minute. I went to order some more material to make them. I have been using 10 gauge Stainless steel, but the price of it has jumped 3 fold Now I dont want to raise prices as I believe that $40 for the complete set is about as high as can be reasonable expected. I make these for the purpose of pure convienece, there isn't a lot of money in them when it all is added together with buying materials and shipping and whatnot. I have looked into making them out of Aluminum, it's plenty strong enough in the 3/16" thickness and will give years of trouble free service. To say the price of material is a lot better would be an understatement. Tell me what you folks think, I dont want to buy a sheet of Aluminum to find nobody is interested....I await your responces
