I have 3 accessories. 1) Markland Trailer Hitch; 2) Lower Chrome wrap around lights; and 3rd) the Lower Chrome Side bag protector guard. My question is can I mount the Markland Trailer Hitch and the Side Bag Chrome Guard first and the Lower wrap round lights later with out taking off the Markland Trailer Hitch?

Since I have been unable to find a receiver hitch for my 1st gen MKII, I decided that I will make one this winter. I have a Markland hitch that I acquired off of eBay and I will use the two front tubes from that for attachment to the bike. I have designed a new part to replace the big chrome platform that Markland uses. Once I have this done and am sure that I will not need any dimensions off of the chrome ball mount, then it will be up for sale. Here are the cad drawings for the receiver to replace the stock Chrome ball mount. I still have some dimensions to finalize but this is the jest of what it will look like.

I needing to locate longer bolts that go thru the bottom of the side bag to accomodiate the spacer and then the washer & nut. I went to McLendons Hardware and they have items that most hardward stores do not carry. They do have the longer bolts in metrics however because there is a nut welded for the original bolt the longer bolt needs to have more threads towards the nut head and these do not. What have others with MKIIs installing Markland hitch done. I will try Home Depot and Lowes tomorrow but I'm not too hopeful.

Hi All, Does anyone have info on the Markland cruise control? I have an 83 VR1200 (1300 86 engine,) and it doesn't work currently. I would like to find some info, schematic, etc. on the electronics on it. When I got the bike, it would work intermittently. I took apart the head, and resoldered some connections that looked iffy, and then it worked fine. I rteplaced the wheat lamps in it, and it lights up, but now there is no response from the cruise unit, it does not pull the throttle cables like it should (not at all). This is the aftermarket one, not the factory VR cruise like the 84 on has. Thanks in advance!

I need the 2 bars that slide inside the mounts and the hitch. I also need the 2 vertical brackets and U clamps that come up from the chrome tabs. Any one have these or know of a source for Markland parts? If I really have to I can fabricate all of these parts, but it would be a lot easier to just bolt the right stuff on.

I saw a thread that I cannot find now. It was a handy step by step instruction with pictures for a Markland hitch install for a 1st gen. There are some details in the install that I just can't quite recall. Iowa Guy

I have friend with an '83 standard that has come up with a Markland backrest in pretty good shape. The problem is that he does not have the mounts. I seem to remember from mine that the Markland mounts actually provided a small "ledge" that the rest sat and pivoted forward on, and it was held on by a center screw on each side, unlike the Ventureline that has clips or clevis pins. If anyone has the old mounts that they can part with please PM me with details and I'll get with him... Thanks! Don

Ok.....I'm about finished piecing together a Markland backrest I've been working on. The pivots were my problem and I got it worked out to what I show in the pics. My question is did the Markland use a knob and stud as a tightening device you could do by hand or was it just a bolt to hold the pivot together like I have done. Can anybody provide a pic or two of the pivot? I used a threaded spacer bushing with nylon washers on either side of the pivot disk on the support arms and metal washer that fits over the smaller side of the bushing to compress the nylons a bit. No rattle, smooth tilt action, but is it the way it should be? Trying to get it right. Mike

I recently purchased an 83 Venture, which has an after-market cruise control installed, and the only info I have about it is its name: Markland. I have tried to find any info I can about the company, but so far I haven't had any luck online. I was wondering if anyone has heard of Markland cruise control systems, or where I may locate a wiring diagram, or just a website/phone number. This system uses magnets attached to the rear brake rotor, with a sensor mounted on the rear caliper bracket. the control on the handlebars says MARKLAND across the top, and has 3 buttons, SET, RES, and ^OFF. I am really hoping it's just a loose wire, or a bad vacuum line, but before I start I wanted to get more familiar with how it is installed. Any help is really appreciated!
