Here are a couple of Gems we have down here in the Southern Tier in NY. Anyone who has been to Spragues Maple Tree Farm knows how good the food is. And I'm just letting everyone know their making maple syrup now. On weekends in March you can check out the process and the suger shack as well as have a great meal. Another gem down here is Cartwrights Maple Tree Inn another family owned maple syrup maker and they have a resturant thats only open from Febuary 14 thru April 15. There you can get all the buckwheat pancakes you can eat and try their maple syrup products as well. I attached the links to both places if you can check them out you won't be sorry you did. And Spragues is a favorite stop when the WNY Gang rides and well as our 3rd Angelica M&E in May. Thanks for checking them out http://spraguesmaplefarms.com/ http://www.cartwrightsmapletreeinn.com/

I had two large silver maple trees cut down in my front yard about four weeks ago. Today, I was splitting the last of the big trunk pieces. I looked down at the wood pile and saw a bright, metallic green bug crawling across one of the logs. It was nearly an inch long, almost too big to be an ash borer, but it looked exactly like the pictures I have seen on the internet. I have been splitting and stacking this wood for four weeks (been busy with other stuff too) and this is the only bug I saw like that. I do not know if the bug was living in the tree (i haven't seen any evidence of the bug before) or if he was just crawling through my yard and I happened to see it. I tried to kill and collect it, but it slipped between the cracks fo the log pile before I had a chance to get at it. The local news networks are talking about how the emerald ash borer has been discovered in Clayton county, about 5 miles north of my house. Is there anything I should do? Is there any other bug out there that looks like an ash borer?

Anyone had this years maple syrup yet? Went up to my brother-in-laws tonight. He is making some very light colored beautiful stuff right now. Nothing better on pancakes.

I went to the Maple Grove Speedway NHRA nationals on Saturday and it was awesome. First time for me and I'm glad that I brought ear plugs. I cannot get over how fast and loud they are. Television just does not give it any justice. 300MPH in the 1/8 mile in under 4 seconds, that's fast. It is unbelievable as to how much money sponsors pay for these guys. John Force (Castrol) was there (what a blow hard) and he had five (5) tractor trailers there, two of which looked like living quarters, one for selling apparel, and the other three were for his cars. I realize what all he has done for the drag racing scene and he is one of the best, but when he opens that big trap of his, it just goes right through me. His daughter was racing too and she really good too; in fact she was ahead of him when qualifying. I would have liked to have gone up on Sunday for the finals, but was unable to. Anyway, I saw a 2000 millennium in the free parking area. Was that anyone here?

Ok, I love riding my bike which is a summer thing. That being said there are other things to do which are only done in the winter. If the winter is snowy enough we like to build snow sculptures in our front yard. This endeavor requires many hands, shovels, rakes as it takes. Meaning any nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts or friends help for about 4 to 6 hours to transform a lump of snow to whatever we all agree upon. Try that in the south. Another winter endeavor we have is the fun {thats right fun} of sledding down a 1 mile hill. Their is nothing else short of riding our bikes that will put a smile on your face any quicker. Tonight I went to my brother -in- laws. He has been making Maple syrup for 12 years but tonight the conditions were perfect for fresh snow and the first batch of maple syrup. If you've never had this concoction you will never know the explosion of taste that this will leave on your mind. It's no wonder that making Maple syrup goes way back in time. Even though we b-t-h about a ice storm I have to tell you there is nothing more beautiful. When the sun shines upon everything covered in ice.... Its like mother nature adorned in diamonds. Cold, When you first step out into a bitter cold morning and take that first deep breath. Your definitely awake! That all being said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! WINTER SUCKS!!!!!!!!! IT LASTS TO LONG!!!!! ITS COLD!!!! THE DA_N SNOW JUST WON'T QUIT! ISN'T IT BEAUTIFUL!!! :confused24::rotfl:
