Does anyone have tips and tricks to drop the 4 carb assembly down on the rubber manifolds. I don't like forcing them. The engine is v'd around the crankshaft, and the carbs are in a V setup along the length of the bike, so the manifolds are too close together if you just try dropping them down. Tips and trick. Already tried warming the manifolds with a heat gun..

While working on the bike the other day, I noticed that the reubber manifolds from the carbs and showing some signs of cracking. Bike is an 01 and has 55k on her. Is this comon? I don't notice any problems, have some slight backfiring, (have not plugged AIS yet). but the bike getrs consistant mileage, 35+. Is it expensive/difficult to replace the manifolds?

Jeff: Do you have to remove the left fairing just to get the carbs out??? While changing out the valve cover gasket on 'Bertha' I decided to go ahead and clean the carbs..Number 1 carb is running some of the time, backfires and cuts in and out. I have disconnected all cables except one, used a wood lever to pull the carb set out of the manifolds and I am stuck trying to get the 4 pack off the bike...Any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks, Tommy from Cary
