  1. ... of his local Yamaha PRO dealership, and states he is here because the engine on his RSTD blew up. The service manager smiles and says, "you are kidding, right?" The man assures him that he is not. Maybe it wasn't an explosion, but there was a cloud of oil and his engine lost power. It was exciting to get to the shoulder from the left lane, dodging between cars in the right. So then the man tells the manager that he and a buddy had seen the hole in a mirror, and it is in the front of the engine, near the seam of the lower and upper case. The service manager is filled with wonder, because he'd never heard of a hole in a RSTD or Venture in his 12 years of experience with Yamaha. Later, the man comes in to sign the agreement to pay 6 hours/$600 if the diagnostic determines that the fault isn't covered by the warranty. He overhears the head technician exclaim in disbelief that there is a hole, because the service manager had just told him so. Clearly both the tech and the manager are excited at the extremely novel problem. The man's friend later overhears the tech in the garage, telling another wrench about the exciting news. The service manager explains that they service bikes FIFO, and that it will be the end of the next week before they can get to the man's bike. He warns the man that it could take over three weeks to complete the repair. The man says that would be speedy indeed, because his club members thought it would be closer to eight weeks. The service manager looks down, abashed, and concedes that scenario is more likely. The man and his friend leave the bike behind, after discussing with the service manager how members of the club would want to lay eyes on the destroyed engine, to see themselves what had happened. This will be done, it is agreed, unless Yamaha requires the parts to be sent for their analysis. Thus ends the opening stages of Roxie's repair.
  2. Seems like everytime I grab one of those tasty little morsels I always get the one with the nasty tasting stuff in the middle. Well this week I got one with the creamy caramel centers. After 5 months of unemployment, during which time I attended and passed a CDL course on Tuesday, not ten minutes before I was to jump into the truck to take my road test i recieved a phone call from another company( not trucking related) that I applied to to come in on thursday for my second interview. Had my first interview the week before, didn't think it went well. So I go back to the trucking company where the school is that I attended and am told to fill out a application with them. Next day I get a call back from them saying I can start as a trainee sometime in the next couple of weeks...What to do, what to do? Well, I went to the interview with the other company ( big box retail company) this morning. The HR manager hands me a slip of paper with a hourly pay rate and ask me if this amount is ok with me. After picking myself up off the floor and pushing my mouth shut , I said I guess it will do. It was way more then I ever expected to be offered. Again, what to do,what to do? So I told her that I just got my CDL And she says, that's great we can use you as a back up delivery driver and a dept. manager.... Now I ask you, what do you think I did?......I start next week with the big box company.
  3. My wife and I rode from Georgia to Johnson City, Tennessee this past weekend. I had a lot of vibration in the front end so when we got to the motel I noticed that I had lost the weight that balanced the front tire. Saturday morning I noticed a Honda, Suzuki dealer so I stopped in and asked the lady at the service desk if they could balance my front tire. She was very nice and told me to go out to the service department and speak with the manager and tell him I was traveling from Georgia he would probably help. The service manager was Brent Mitchel and he said he could put the weight on where the old one came off and I could then ride down the street to see if the tire was balanced and if not he would remove the tire and rebalance it. He said for me to wait in the showroom and he would come get me when he was finished. He came back and told me to ride down the road and see if the tire was balanced. I aske him how much I owed and he said nothing. I tired to pay something for the trouble but he refused. I didn't go back because the tire was better. It would be a better world if every business had people the care like this one does.
  4. We came home from vacation and there is a Harbor Freight on the way home. We stopped to get a trailer to make a tag along. The store we stopped at did not have any sale trailers left. I spoke to the manager who went back to check on another store. We started telling him what we are doing with it and he said he received one tag a long trailer last thursday. http://www.harborfreight.com/600-lb-capacity-78-inch-tag-along-trailer-66771.html after checking on the price I just decided to grab one, I had a 20% off coupon and out the door with tax was 357.00. Last time I checked they were not in the catalog. The manager said it showed 62 in the system as warehouse or other stores.
  5. We've all talked to this guy. At last, a picture of him. Mujibar was trying to get a job in India . The Personnel Manager said, 'Mujibar, You have passed all the tests, except one. It is a simple test of your English language skills Unless you pass it , you cannot qualify for this job.' Mujibar said, 'I am ready.' The manager said, You must make a sentence using the words Yellow, Pink, and Green .' Mujibar thought for a few minutes and said, 'Mister manager, I am ready.' The manager said, 'Go ahead.' Mujibar said, 'The telephone goes green, green, And I pink it up, and say, Yellow, this is Mujibar.' Mujibar now works at a call center. No doubt you have spoken to him. I know I have.
  6. Well back on July 24 I laid my motorcycle down. Here is a post of the damage. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62041 It was on a Sunday that it happens. With the dealers being closed on Mondays and me living on the south side of Indy I sent email to Dreyer Honda South. I told them I had a Yamaha RSTD and what had happen. Ask them if they could get the parts and fix it for me. I got a call that Tuesday morning from there service manager. He said they would love to do the job that they could get the parts. Well in a few days after that I had the check from the insurance company. I told the service manager that when they had all the parts in there dealer ship to give me a call and I would bring it in. Because I could still ride it and did not want it to be in the shop for a few months. He said Yamaha had all the parts in stock and it would take a few weeks to get them in. Well about two and a half weeks later they call me and said they have all the parts in but the front headlight ring. That if I could bring it in they would get the parts on it. Now they had down that it would take 6.5 hours labor. So I drop the bike off and I ask the service manager when it would be done he said this time next week. I told him I need the bike that next weekend. Well after they had my bike for a week I called them to see if it was going to be ready the guy that answer the phone went to look and came back and told me all the parts are setting next to the bike in the box. Well I said they have not touch it yet. I was not a happy camper. Then I find out they was still missing four parts. Well after me telling them I was not happy with them for having me bring it and saying they had all the parts but the one and plus that we talk about me bring it in when they had all of them and ready to do the job. I got my bike back the next evening with the parts they had in on it. Then the service manager tells me that when the windshield, front headlight ring, and reflector for crash bar for saddlebag was in I could bring it back and they would put it on while I waited. So I get a call yesterday and they said the rest of the stuff was there. Could I bring it in and they would put them on. I said you get them on while I wait today they said no we will have them on by Friday. I said that’s not want I was told the last time I pick the bike up. So I told them I would bring it in today. But that I need the bike Friday because I had a field meet to go to this weekend. Well after we had talk on the phone. I got to thinking they had not done good on their word has far timing. So I went up to their shop and got the rest of the parts and brought them home and put them on myself. I got the parts on in about two hours. Bike is now all done and back looking like it should. So I would have to say I give them a grade of D. The work they did was done right it’s just what they tell you and what really happen is off .
  7. Now I have done this before and have never had an issue. But I got to know, am I doing it wrong? First I stayed at the Frontier Motel in Marquette, Iowa and asked the manager if I could hold a block of 8 rooms for a while cause I was having a ride. He told me YES he would hold them, I asked how long "HE SAID TILL 5-14-11" (Ride was on 5-21-11). I said that would be fine what ever did not get called on he would then "sell / rent" . On the 21st two couples call motel from the M&E and ask for rooms "Manager" ask if they were with me, couples ask my name and say YES we are with Bryan. Manager say that is the last two rooms he has. We get to motel and "Manager" is pissed that I did not call to cancel extra rooms??? (To my understanding he was to rent them after the 14th so why would I call? If that was not enough earlier call from other couples said that WAS LAST TWO ROOMS? SO again, why call?") And he didn't even give the two couples any of "my" rooms even when HE asked and they said YES they are with me! Anyway after we all headed home Sunday I get a call from "Shazam" debit card corporation saying there are "MANY" charges from said motel starting at $390.00 and going down $20.00 after each charge is denied. I am asked if these charges are real to which I say NO! I only owe for ONE room at $73.50. (Which I fully intend to pay, I did stay there and I am NOT trying to get out of my dept.) Monday I go to my bank and tell them the whole story they check it out and I now have a total of 14 charges from said motel. (I only put so much money in this account so I don't get burned, to bad.) My bank is cool with it and says HE is wrong but they want to cancel my card and issue a new one. NO CHARGE, which I did not argue with. My question is did I do something wrong? Any other time I have done this if I was told they would hold to a specific date then after that date rooms were gone and I did not have to call. Is that how it is suppose to work? Just thought there maybe a motel / hotel owner here that could tell me proper way I should have handled it?? Thank you , Bryan

  9. Can anyone tell me how to contact the Yamaha Warranty Service Rep. As some of you will remember my RSTD ran hot. With some assistance from my friends here we pretty much feel assured that it has a blown head gasket. The bike has been in the shop going on 4 weeks now with very little being done to get it repaired. The 1st week the service manager told me he had couple of big jobs in front of me so it would be the following Tuesday before they could get started. I'm not thrilled buy am okay with that as I know how these shops work. He also tells me until the last few weeks he has never had a RSTD in his shop for repairs which does make me feel better about the quality of the engine. Anyway... Three more weeks have passed and they have yet to diagnosis the problem. Their reasoning is they do not have the proper size fitting for the radiator pressure tester. This is a Yamaha dealer, they should have the proper tools. He says he has been trying to find one but to no avail. I just can't believe that in 3 additional weeks they can not lay hands on something they should have in their service bay. Then after he does diagnose he tells me it will be an additional 2or more weeks for them to get the warranty approval and then order parts and then do the repairs. I think I have been more than patience but that is quickly running out. So how do I light a fire under their backside. Who do I call? I have a call into the manager now but I want to go higher than that. Thanks.
  10. An elderly lady decided to give herself a big treat for her significant birthday by staying overnight in one of London 's most expensive hotels. When she checked out next morning, the desk clerk handed her a bill for £250.00. She exploded and demanded to know why the charge was so high. "It's a nice hotel but the rooms certainly aren't worth £250.00 for just an overnight stop without even breakfast." The clerk told her that £250.00 is the 'standard rate' so she insisted on speaking to the Manager. The Manager appeared and forewarned by the desk clerk announced: "the hotel has an Olympic-sized pool and a huge conference centre which are available for use." 'But I didn't use them," she said. ''Well, they are here, and you could have," explained the Manager. He went on to explain that she could also have seen one of the in-hotel shows for which the hotel is famous. "We have the best entertainers fromEdinburgh, Glasgow , and Aberdeen performing here," the Manager said. "But I didn't go to any of those shows," she said. "Well, we have them, and you could have," the Manager replied. No matter what amenity the Manager mentioned, she replied, "But I didn't use it!" The Manager was unmoved, so she decided to pay, wrote a cheque and gave it to the Manager. The Manager was surprised when he looked at the cheque. "But madam, this cheque is only made out for £50.00." ''That's correct. I charged you £200.00 for sleeping with me," she replied. "But I didn't!" exclaims the very surprised Manager. "Well, too bad, I was here, and you could have." Don't mess with Senior Citizens:mo money:
  11. A woman looking desperately for work goes to the toy plant where they make Elmo dolls. The Personnel Manager goes over her resume and tells her that he regrets that he has nothing worthy of her background that he might offer her. The woman replies that she really needs work and will take almost anything. The Personnel Manager thinks about it and then says that he does have one job that requires very low level skills -- on the Tickle Me Elmo production line. The woman is thrilled at the opportunity and happily accepts the job. Then the manager takes her down to the assembly line and explains her duties to her. She replies that she thinks can handle the job, and agrees to report for work at 8:00 a.m. next morning. The next day at 8:45, there's a knock on the Personnel Manager's door. The Tickle Me Elmo line manager comes in and starts ranting about the woman just hired. After the line manager screaming for 15 minutes about how badly backed up the assembly line is, the Personnel Manager suggests that the line man show him the problem. Together they head down to the line and, sure enough, Elmos are backed up from here to kingdom come, as far as the eye can see. Right at the end of the line is the woman just hired. She has pulled over a roll of material used for Elmo's furry exterior and she has a big bag of marbles at her side. Both managers watch as she cuts out a small swatch of the material, takes two marbles and begins sewing them between Elmo's legs. The Personnel Manager starts to kill himself laughing, and finally, after about 20 minutes of rolling around in hysterics, he pulls himself together and walks over to his newest employee. "I'm sorry," he says to her. "I guess you misunderstood me yesterday. What I wanted you to do was give each Elmo two test tickles."

    Checking In

Sorry Girls. Letting some of you down by not being on here helping with the men. Things have been crazy at work. New owners took over March 8. Little General out of Beckley WV bought all 4 stores that our owners had. Been going though alot of changes. We now sell beer. Replaced all shelving. Totally changed the store in the inside. I am currently considered the 1st Asst Manager. They bought the manager up from the BP which they also own to manage both stores. Been seeing if I am going to like it enough to stay. Can say that I am watching Schedules etc. This week I do not like what I am seeing. The first couple weeks was ok. Say some Prayers Please. It is depressing when you sit down and see that you have been cheated out of promotions at least 6 times and you know how much work you have put into it.:bawling:Are the moods that I am feeling. Could use some time with the FAMILY and on the bike.
  13. I have ALWAYS worked on my own bikes. But they were Harleys and I knew them from top to bottom, easy bikes to wrench on. I just bought my Royal Star and since I have my big trip coming up here in a couple of weeks, I decided to take it to the dealer for the 16,000 mile service, just this once... The reason I have always worked on my own bikes dates back to the first time I took my first Harley into the dealer for a simple oil change. I went to pick it up and low and behold, there was a scratch on the tank. When I brought it up to the service manager, I was told that it was there before before they began to work on it and was looked at like I was trying to pull a scam. Needless to say, I raised hell but still only ended up with a free detail and did not pay for the service. I was able to buff the scratch out when I got home but that set the precedent for me. Take bike to dealer=get screwed. Back to the story at hand though... I took my bike to the dealer and spent a good half hour talking to the service manager about the pride and care I take in my bike's appearance and that I expect to come back to ZERO scratches/dents when I pick it up. The service manager ASSURED me that he would take extremely good care of my bike, there was nothing to worry about. I dropped it off Saturday for the service and a new rear tire. Well, I swung by today as they are only a couple of miles from my office to see how it was coming along. When I arrived my bike was parked about 10" from the bike lift, which had a dirt bike on it at the time. The mechanic who was working on the dirt bike had to repeatedly walk from the lift to his tool box, each time literally squeezing past my front tire and fender, his jeans actually rubbing on the fender. I immediatley walked over and moved my bike back about 2 feet. The mechanic asked me who I was and told him I was the owner of this bike and that I was not comfortable at all with how close it was where he was working and walking. He looked at me like I was crazy. I then looked at my front fender and big surprise, there is a small scratch right smack on the front of it!! I got more than a little upset and asked him how this happened. He looked at me and shrugged. I asked to speak to the shop manager and all he did was walk to the phone and over the loudspeaker, asked for the shop manager to come to the shop, customer waiting. When he arrived, I showed him the scratch and told him this is exactly what I was talking about! He rubbed the area with his finger and said it felt smooth and that he didnt think the scratch was new. This is after we had already walked the bike on Saturday looking for scratches and dents. As we were discussing this, the mechanic had pulled the dirt bike off the lift and had pulled my bike on and was taking my hard painted bags off. The first thing he did was set the bag and lid on a metal counter, no towel or anything down! That was my breaking point. I went from talking to yelling instananeously! " That is EXACTLY the sh-t I'm talking about!!" and I stormed back there, grabbed the bag and lid and walked right back to service counter where the manager was standing, mouth agape. I grabbed a couple of shop rags that were on the counter and put the bag down on top of them, latched the lid and turned the bag over. Thank god there werent any scratches, but still! At this point my head was pounding so I took a couple of deep breaths and then slowly tried to explain that this is the reason I don't usually bring my bike in for anything, it's not his bike so why, other than pride in workmanship, would he care?? The service manager looked as confused as I've ever seen anyone look in my life. I asked him what his plan was because I'm not happy at all right now. He asked me what I would like him to do. I told hime I would be much more comfortable if he would personally oversee the sevice of my bike, which he agreed to do. He promised me that my bike would be done today. It's 2:15 right now so at 4:30 when I leave I'm gonna head back over. Do you guys think I'm being over the top here or does everyone value their stuff the way I do? Be honest!
  14. This morning I picked up a nasty that kept popping up and warning my computer was infected and did I want to scan etc. The little sucker couldn't be killed. It's known as Antivirus System Pro It was preventing me from opening the windows task manager so I could wring it's filthy little neck. Finally I logged off and back in and started the windows task manager before the malware got started. I was able to kill the processes and go after the damage it caused. If course I was aggravated and went after it with an axe and didn't really think about documenting what I did. My best recollections here for anyone that needs to rip it out: It had created a folder in "My Documents" named "Program Files". All it's nasty executables were in there. I deleted the folder. I use a hosts file to suppress ads. It had re-written the hosts file so it could phone home via a fake web name. I fixed the hosts file. I used CCcleaner to clean out the registry. For anyone using a hosts file the following entries should block it from phoning home: 127.0.0.1 winwarepro.microsoft.com 127.0.0.1 winwarepro.com 127.0.0.1 http://www.winwarepro.com It probably overwrites them, so you might have to re-add after an infection.
  15. So I was reluctant to post this question about a strange noise that I was hearing on the bike. I used the search feature, and read many threads but nothing was remotely close to what I was hearing. I really couldn't put into words the odd sound. So after enough research, I began to poke around the bike. I tightened to spec everything that had a screw, nut or bolt or clamp on the bike. The noise continued. It only would get real loud at the upper rev limits of each gear until I shifted. I couldn't determine if it was in the motor or in the radiator, but I knew it was up front. I've been on the hunt for the problem for a few months, fixing, then riding, repeat. So today, I decided to ride over to the dealer and drop it for a front to back, top to bottom inspection. As I am out there with the service manager and the bike running, I throttle up and say - see there it is. He hears it as does my buddy who followed me over to drive me back home in his truck after I drop the bike. So the service manager takes over from me and starts throttling up and I move in front of the bike. All three of us have our eyes peeled and ears to the motor, looking at every possible weakness. That's when I see it: that damn plastic chrome colored snap on covering that goes on the center of the light bar below the headlight. It's jumping up and down like crazy. I pop it off and a miracle happens. The noise stops. After my buddy and the manager give me the evil eye, I ride the bike home and it rode lie a whole new bike. What a difference. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem or the same experience, but now you know the inexpensive fix. Check that thing first before anything else. Not sure if I am gonna keep it off or find a way to tighten up the connection and eliminate the rattle. In any event, I am relieved that it didn't cost me $$$. Ride safe TTW
  16. A little bit of a long story, but avoid or be very careful with Carlock Powersports in Jackson TN. At least when we raised he** with the manager he made them do it close to right. While we were at the bikefest, the back tire dwindled quicker than expected so... Off to Jacksonville, TN to find another. Ended up at Carlock Powersports (The local Yamaha/Kaw dealer) A. The didn't have the right size rear AT ALL. B They only had the Bricks. After being told by the parts dept. that they had nothing, I asked one of the other workers out front if there was anyone else that might have a tire (Had already checked Honda and Harley shops) At least this guy realized that we need a tire BAD. He says surely we have something close enough! so, back in we go. Found a 130/90-15 (close enough at this point) Service guy asks what bike and I told him a 06 TD, he says it will be $70 to mount it - (YEAH, we're off!). Pulled around, he looks at the bike and says Oh, that will be $140 to mount. They knew we were from out of town, they could see by looking that we NEEDED the tire and decided they would get some extra to go play. I argued with him for a bit, he went to the service manager and came back and said it was a hard tire to change due to shaft drive and all(Guess other 06 TD's aren't shaft with bags) and it would be 120. I told him straight out that he was gouging me :headache:and my normal guy charges $55. But go ahead since we gotta have it. We then went and found the manager and told him they were gouging us since our guy can do it in 45 minutes and this places labor rate is $80/hr. Manager at least went back and checked, then came back and said well, they should have said it may take a couple of hours and he was sorry they didn't make it clear but they would charge the hourly rate. (I had already clocked them when they started. Took the guy 45 mins - they still charged $89. But at least it wasn't $120. I told the service kid that he needed to learn how to explain to customers that the hourly rate is X and we think it will take this long but may be up to that long and the charge MIGHT be Y. He didn't seem to care. I know, will get rid of that 130 Brick ASAP:8:. Forgot how noisy those suckers are, at least it does have tread and does stick to the road. You would think that a dealer would welcome someone from out of town and try to be gracious and show a little compassion for someone stuck on the road. Got back to bikefest and someone else told us you really have to watch them, they like to charge outragous prices and take a really long time to do simple stuff. Other than that - the people of Jackson and Lexington(especially) are VERY NICE people and a great bunch. The bikefest was to raise money for the battered childrens shelter and they do a great job.
  17. I not knocking harleys but just had to tell you all this story. A friend on mine bought an 07 street glide. He paid $400 for a sprocket that harley says will eliminate the vibration. After installing the sprocket the vibration moved to a higher rpm instead of going away completely. My friend went back to the local harley dealer and told the service manager he wasn't going to pay $400 for something that doesn't work. The service manager said lets go back in the shop and talk to one of the technicians. When my friend explained his problem to the certified harley technician the technician replied, "It's a damn harley it's supposed to vibrate." My friend is very upset.
  18. the way things have gone for us the last year, why shouldnt it continue??? I'm torn as to what to do about my job. we were gone to Ohio for Dales dads funeral upon my return home I knew I was scheduled to work friday and sunday. Knowing that I had saturday off Dale accepted work for saturday. I go inot work friday afternoon and see that she had put me on the schedule for saturday. I asked her when she did this and she explained that since the new hire didnt work out ( show up) she had to put me on. Well I explained to her i could not work because Dale had to work and I do not have a babysitter. She ( the manager)asked me when he would get off so maybe I could come in later. I didnt know what time, we never know what time when he works saturdays but usually its 10 - 8. It would be no use for me to come in that late as my shift would end at 10:30. She said that she had had to work for some others so she guessed she could work for me also. This is where the conversation ended. Well guess what.....she didnt show up for the shift saturday.......neither of us did. But guess who is getting blamed for it? As soon as I heard what had happened I tried to call her, both her cell and home...she wouldnt answer. I left a message. I called the assistant manager and talked with her. She told me the manager took me off the schedule and she ( the manager)wouldnt talk to me til monday , when she was back on her regular schedule!!! So I called the manager monday and she pretty much layed blame totally on me for what happened. I appologized and said obvioulsy it was miscommunication.she tried to tell me the last thing said between us was what time does dale get off so maybe you can come in late....and since no more was said, she figured i was just going to come in. She appears to not be taking any responsibilty for what happened , which really upsets me. It was obviously a miscommunication and I have admitted to my share of it and appologized to her and to the person who had to come in and cover the shift. On our phone conversation she said she would talk to the District manager and tell him we had spoken and see what he wants to do. Well I havent heard anything back. I contacted the owner and let him know what had happened and how I feel im being treated unfairly....the general manager them contacted me and said she wants to get this straightened out between us that maybe I should go talk to the manager and she would come also if I wanted her to. I'm so frustrated, I have always worked when asked to, helped out by staying over some hours into the next shift when someone couldnt come in, worked overnights to train a new person....i have missed one day in the last year, other than the time i had to take off for the funeral, always busted my butt for them ( in fact I was in for a raise) This is a new manager who has been there for 1 1/2 months now and I have gotten along fine with her, no problems til now. We do have some other issues going on about me switching back to overnights because of Dales schedule now, which I was told I could have because the night guy was going to be transfering to another store to be assistant manager, well some probs have come up with that and we dont know if he is leaving or staying now. Because of this thinking i was going to overnights I turned down my chance for the after school program for haylie that ive been trying to get inot since school started, I told them to give it to the next person waiting because i would be going to overnights. So now I have no child care for afterschool so I cant work the shift i was on. What a mess. I have even agreed to cut my number of days down for a while and take the 2 overnights available and wait to see what happens with the other guy transferring. sorry about the rambling but im so frustrated, cant afford to be without a job.and really dont know if I want to go back there now.........
  19. Last Tuesday I left my bike at the dealer because I don't have a whine, it is a scream. The service manager called me this morning and said he finally got to test drive my bike and it "screams like a banshee." He doesn't think it is the clutch basket but thinks it may be the rear end. As most of you know from my previous post I am on my fourth rear diff now. The service manager has asked someone from yamaha to come in and see what they can do. The rep will be there tomorrow. If they can't get my bike back to normal I am starting the battle with yamaha to get a new different bike. The service manager did tell me that he is seeing more and more ventures with the chirp and whine problem. I like my bike but can't take the screaming anymore.
