Shipped my Road Glide seat off to Rick Butler this morning. I have put some miles on it and was pleasantly surprised with it for a stock seat. I've done a Saddle Sore and a Bun Burner on it so I know that I can do a thousand mile day on it with no major problems. There is still room for improvement though so I figured that with the snow on the ground, it was a great time to let him work his magic.

Just recieved my insurance renewal. Hard to believe They INCREASED it $200.00 over last years to $900.00 for the year. This is for $1,000,000.00 public liability ONLY .(No collision. No personal Injury. No loss). How in the world can they justify such legalized highway ROBBERY. And this is through RIDERS PLUS who are supposed to be motorcycle friendly. I am convinced that there is a secret agenda by the Government of Canada and the Insurance Companey's to rid the world of Motorcycles. Am I ticked off .....you bet I am. I think its long past due that All Motorcyclists launch a MAJOR PROTEST.

I figured since many of you have been helping me with this bike, it's only fitting that I show you the progress so far. When I bought her last month she was running strong. The major thing was cosmetics. This is how I picked her up. She needed some repairs but a lot of cleaning and plastic work. One of the first things I did was buy a new seat. I found this one on EBay for $50. The original seat had a rip by the gas fill & was covered with stick junk. I've since read this is protectant breaking down & quite common. I understand that when the original owner died & the bike sat for years. A major part of my work so far has been tearing her down & cleaning, scrubbing & polishing. When I took her apart, you could not imagine the amount of dirt I found. The next thing I did was slap a trunk on her. When I bought my 81 Honda CB750, she came with K&G hard saddlebags & an aftermarket trunk. Since I pulled all the bags from the Honda, I decided to recycle the trunk. This is how it sits right now. I'm going to start the plastic welding on the fairing and other ABS parts. I will make videos of the repairs & post them so that anyone else looking to try their hand at plastic welding has at least a heads up to what to expect.

Is there someome here named Scott Crego? Possibly from North Carolina. I have someone by this name attempting to join our Facebook Venturerider group. His profile pic is of an RSV. When I tried to add him to the group, it said he was already a member, but when I check the group roster, he isn't on it. It will not let me use the "ignore" function, nor will it let me add him. So, it's just sitting there, asking me to add him, but I can't do anything with it. It could be a major glitch, or he could have some kinda weird privacy settings that is preventing it. Did one of you guys add someone by this name? Is this the name of a member here?:think::think:

NO SEX Since 1955 A crusty old Marine Sergeant Major found himself at a gala event hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of extremely young idealistic ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the Sergeant Major for conversation. "Excuse me, Sergeant Major, but you seem to be a very serious man. Is something bothering you?" "Negative, ma'am. Just serious by nature." The young lady looked at his awards and decorations and said, "It looks like you have seen a lot of action." "Yes, ma'am, a lot of action." The young lady, tiring of trying to start up a conversation, said, "You know, you should lighten up. Relax and enjoy yourself." The Sergeant Major just stared at her in his serious manner. Finally the young lady said, "You know, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but when is the last time you had sex?" "1955, ma'am." "Well, there you are. No wonder you're so serious. You really need to chill out! I mean, no sex since 1955! She took his hand and led him to a private room where she proceeded to "relax" him several times. Afterwards, panting for breath, she leaned against his bare chest and said, "Wow, you sure didn't forget much since 1955." The Sergeant Major said, after glancing at his watch, "I hope not; it's only 2130 now." (Gotta love military time) Andy

I've had my Voyager Kit for a while now (got it the week before Rolling Thunder), and we love it. When we bought the kit we did not order lights because I don't care for the stock Harley lights they use. My friend has a Voyager kit with lights on his RSTD, and because the sun washes them out, they are useless. What I'm looking for are lights that I can mount on the fenders, but I don't want to do a lot of sheet metal work. Drilling a couple of small holes is fine, but I don't want to have to perform major surgery. I would like to use LEDs, but I'm not opposed to incandescents..... Any input will be greatly appreciated... BTW: I've looked on Super Brite LEDs dot com, and their lights require cutting major holes in the fenders...... Thanks.

I need some "forks for dummies" info. Never taken a fork off a big bike like this in my life [and it has been a long one]. Looks like a big job if they come out the top when taken apart. Do they come apart from the bottom? I need to rebuild the left side which developed some major squeaks.

OK folks, I've started re-programming the countdown to our events page. I've added "Spring, "Maintenance Day" and the "International Rally" so far. If you have dates to other events, see some that won't be held this year, need to add other major ones, please post the info here so I can get it updated. Thanks for your help. Here is a quick link to the page: http://www.venturerider.org/rally/

Anybody see any major change?

my RSMV was totaled a couple weeks ago, now I'm looking for another one. What would be a better deal, an 06 with 20,000 miles, or a 99, at half the price, with 18,000 miles? Are there any major differences between years?

From time to time it is necessary to negotiate payments with bill collectors. I am talking about those unexpected medical bills that can pile up from just a few visits to the clinic.I have learned to negotiate quickly with these people since they have the power to file judgments, garnish wages, and even send out private investigators to find you and your assets. Our major medical insurance is just that. Major medical with a $2500 deductible per person. So those normal routine services and minor medical procedures are billable.I called today and negotiated a payment plan for 3 accounts from last month. The good news is these negotiated payments are interest free. The bad news is I'm paying for inflated services. After all a clinic is a business and those who don't pay and have nothing of value their loss is past on to me. At least thats the way I see it.Nothing like unexpected bills to crash the budget.

Mother-in-law was in the garage today and stepped wrong and fell. When she went down, she hit her left eyebrow on the highway peg of the RSV. No broken bones, just a major shiner and 50 stitches. RSV-1, Mother-in-law-0 She is already laughing about it, so all is well.

The pin-striping that Yamaha installed 25 years ago... well it's glue penetrated the plastic and causes major issues when I sprayed a primer coat to smooth a bit better. I had to switch to a non reactive nasty cynocryalate based sealer to bury the mess that the pinstripes made in the plastic to make it go away. The problem happened on every location on the bike where there was a pinstripe. IF you leave the pinstripes there and are fine with a bump under your new paint this will not be an issue, but I wanted it right so I razored off all pinstripes, sanded everything smooth and started the painting. ugly crinkles appeared, reappeared, reappeared until I found something that would not react and bury it. now the parts are as smooth as glass and ready for paint. Oh another note: most of the emblems on the bike are there to hide major ugly casting marks when the bike parts were made. if you want everything smooth, you have to use flexible plastic filler to fill them and make them disappear.

http://www.ridesafer.com/Motorcycle_tire_pressure_monitoring_system_p/tpm-20.htm Has anyone ever tried one of these devices and if so an opinion. It really looks interesting and possibly may give enough time to avoid a major mishap. Tom

Gary and I went riding yesterday. I have a 95 1100 Virgago. Anyway, I notice an oil ring about an inch wide on my left front fork. He thinks it's the seal in it. Anyway, took it out and noticed it wasn't "feeling" like normal", so I had him drive it. He definatley thinks it's the seal in the front shock. So, here's my question. Is this something we can fix ourselves or does the whole bike have to go into the shop? (I consider myself lucky, as I've had the bike and have never had a single problem) Just hoping this isn't major surgery. Any advise would be appreciated!

Hello I'm new to the forum because I am considering the purchase of either a left over 08 or a new 09 Venture. Now this is some what my idea and some what my wifes idea. I presently own a 08 Yamaha FJR1300A. It is an amazing motorcycle. This is why I have reservations of getting a Venture. However, my wife likes the Venture "seat" and the more touring like ride of the Venture. I like the addicting power of the FJR. What to do? I once owned a 1999 Venture. I thought it was a nice bike. I liked it better than a Goldwing I tried and HD---well. Anyway, can anyone tell me any major improvements to the Venture since 99? I have not kept up with the changes if any as far as the Venture is concerned. I don't see that much difference from the 08 to the 09 version although I haven't seen much info on the 09s. Thanks and I have to say this is a great site for information on the Venture.

Took the time to put on saddle bag rails, both top and bottom. Thing is with everything i have read on here i was expecting problems. But for some reason everything matched right up , has a great line with the bottom of the bag. Hardes part of the whole job was making sure i mesured and drilled the holes for the top right, fighured if i messed that up i was in for a major problem. But all and all it is nice to know you can come here and find help with your problems. Just maybe someone from yamaha comes here and reads this stuff as well. Thank you all

Well we sruvived the storm. Had to work at Bogalusa PD the last two days and the internet went out yesterday and just came back on. We were with out power yesterday morning until just a little while ago and the phones have not been working right. No major damage here just mainly small limbs all over. Had some tornados around and it was kind of rough last nite. Thanks to jrichard and trich for calling and checking on us.

Somebody posted this at Touring Hogs and I thought I would put it out here also. I hadn't heard anything about Harley releasing a new factory trike but that's exactly what they have done. I think it's a very smart move. Even available with an optional reverse. I'm really surprised that Honda, Yamaha and other major manufacturers haven't done this also. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/HD_News/triglide_pr_popup.jsp?locale=en_US
