Just got my Rider magazine and they have an article on a Royal Star Venture with a Hannigan kit. It is good, but makes a couple of somewhat negative references like no reverse available. But, at the end of the article about information on the Venture, it is suggested to checkout Venturerider.Org. YaHoo!!!!! RandyA

Which one of you grumpy, old crusty farts wrote the letter to American Motorcyclist (AMA magazine) complaining about those young whippersnappers ruining the riding world? Actually, it was a good letter with valid points (with a picture of a beautiful Venture). However, the first reading of the letter had kind of a 'git off my lawn' tone. After reading it again, he was right. RR

Came across this in a magazine recently and was wondering if anyone had checked into it or has tried them. If it functions as described, I might try one on the rear brake of my RSV. http://www.eglidegoodies.com/id254.html

Just curious as to what is everyone's favorite motorcycle magazine/riding magazine? I know there are several out there, but I think best ones are those that don't cater to any particular brand and speak more to the tips, suggestions and articles in a more general way. So basically, as a rider (of a Venture or Gold Wing)...what is your magazine(s) of choice? Wally

OK, I need to find a REALLY good deal on a set headsets for two helmets. The wife thinks it would be a good idea to talk while we're riding. Does anybody know where I can get them cheap? A buddy said he saw some in an ad in Wing World for $69 for two. Of course, he didn't keep the magazine. Help. Mick

I need help in getting a copy or two of the November 2009 Marine Leatherneck magazine. It's not something that I can just walk into the local Barnes & Noble and purchase. There is an article in the magazine called Vietnam: Last Full Measure of Devotion by Dick Camp. This is important to me since this is the first published account and public statment that my brother survived the initial crash and was not KIA as all the officical military records show - other than his medical records. If you read the article my brother was the one found alive in the Huey, although he did die later waiting for medical treatment. Any suggestions and help in getting a copy of the magazine would be wonderful. This is the link to the article if anyone would like to read it. http://www.mca-marines.org/leatherneck/nov09-last_full_measure_of_devotion.asp

Since you asked earlier from a comment I made, the Rider magazine article is in the November issue and is titled Victoria's Secrets. Melborne was his base and he toured Phillip's Island, Mornington Pensula, Yarra Valley, the Mystic Mountains and the Great Ocean Road. Very nice pictures. RandyA

My whole adult life I've been struggling with the question of what I wanted to do when I grew up. Now at the young age of 53 I think I finally know. Yesterday I sealed the deal on a new job which I am hoping will finally put me there. Ever since I got back from my Sturgis trip things have been kinda slow. The projects I've been working on either got completed or petered out right before Thanksgiving and things have been at dead stop since November. Being idle and considering the lousy weather we've been having I have been wrestling with my mental and financial health warding off cabin fever and slow cash flow issues. In the mean time doing my "What Do I Want To Be When I Grow Up" exercises. These exercises pretty much involves making a list of the components of the perfect job and then develop a strategy to find that job and get hired for it. My list pretty much read like this: I want a job that requires me to do the following: Ride my motorcycle Travel to meet other people involved with Motorcycling. Conduct business with people who had motorcycling on their minds, for fun and profit. Attending, covering and participating in motorcycling rides, gatherings and events. Writing about those places, people and events I experienced while doing my job. Getting paid for doing all of the foregoing. Work with other people with similar interest and values. I did not want to have a job where : I had to be stuck inside all the time. I had a set schedule or routine that forced me to combat rush hour traffic daily. I was required to wear a coat and tie everyday. My pay did not represent the effectiveness of my efforts. IMPORTANT LIFE LESSON HERE; Once you decide and can visualize what you want in life, point your nose in that direction and follow it. Eventually you will find what your looking for. So Yesterday, I spent several hours with Jerry McDaniel Owner/Editor of Thunder Roads Magazine of Georgia and as of today will be working for him as a Field Representative for his magazine. Being a field rep includes all of the foregoing but, mostly seeking out Motorcycle friendly businesses in Georgia and enticing them into advertising in the magazine. So, if any of you out there, especially North Georgia members know of any Georgia motorcycle friendly businesses who would like to increase their exposure in the Georgia Motorcycling community through direct market advertising in Thunder Roads Magazine, send me an e-mail and a lead. I'll take all the help I can get to get a fast jump off the line. And do appreciate it. Or, If you have any event anouncements you would like included in the magazine, give me a shout.

Just subscribed to Roadrunner Magazine (the discount was great!). Does anyone know of any other motorcycle magazine that caters to touring? Off and on over the years, I have subscribed to various motorcycle mags, but I just no longer have any interest in "this month's crotch rocket showdown" type of articles. Thanks.

I am working on a story about our trip to Florida for the magazine I write for. I have posted quite a bit of it and am almost finshed. If you are completely bored to death and want to check it out you can got to the "tattootate.50megs.com link in my signature and look for the Florida Story link on the left. Might be a few typos...I havent got a chance to edit it yet. Been kinda busy trying to catch up on all the stuff from our triip and getting wifey AKA MOM ready for her surgery. There is an online link to the magazine if anyone is interested...http://www.thundercolorado.com My stuff is written under the name The Viking. Ride Safe

So is anyone else annoyed by this! I go into the store to pick up a bike magazine hoping to find one that has some tips and tricks that I can use on my bike. I try V-twin because I know that they have a good mix of metric bikes. No luck. They really only have "chopper" style bikes and upgrades. Good magazine but not what I am looking for. I see one called called Sport rider but a quick glance through that one reveals exactly what I thought: it is dedicated exclusively to crotch rockets. Oh, there is one! It is called Baggers. Surely it has some articles on metric touring bikes. Well that's odd. After searching the pages, I now see it caters exclusively to Harley riders. Is there a magazine out there that I might be interested in? Are the only magazines out there only full of Harleys? Don't get me wrong, if you ride a Harley, I have nothing against you. That is what you like and that's fine but what about the rest of us that don't want a bike just like the guy down the street? Is there a magazine for us or are we out of luck? I ride with several guys (not to mention the ones from this site) that have non-Harley baggers and feel the same way I do. If there is not a magazine out there than I think that the magazine companies are missing a huge demagraphic. Hopefully they will tap into it some day. In the mean time, if someone knows of a magazine that they want to recomend, please do. Ok, my rant is done. Brent
