Hi, I did a seach of side stands and mostly found " checking you oil' and "center stands" Anyway, I have lowered my bike with the barons rear kit and lowered the front. I have found a side stand kit after lowering my new Kaw. Versys and want to try it on my Venture. How much should I cut off or what should be the total length of the stand when shortened. I am willing to start with a little cut off and work my way shorter but it would help where to start ? thank you Cb

When i was shopping for this RSTD, met a guy that had his bike lowered and inch. AND had his seat lowered an inch. It was a stock seat. Looked just as thick as the oem. Looked like an OEM seat. So, my question is: Is there an easy way to lower the seat about an inch? I'm getting the seat redone. Probably a Butler seat since he lives about 10 miles from me.

Hey guys. I asked these questions on the Sportster.org forum, but got no responses. Maybe because my avatar is the same one I use here (VMAX). I hope that's not the case. I also went to our area Harley dealer today and spoke to the service dept. He really tried to assist me, but could not offer any measurements either. At least he tried. Now, any of you Sportster owners who can take some measurements for me or answer some of my questions will go straight to #1 on my list. So, below is what I posted on Sportster.org. "O.k. Maybe I was asking the wrong question, or in the wrong way, in my previous post. So, I think I am barking up the right tree this time. Please bear with me on this. My 2003 883R was lowered by the previous owner, but I don’t like the loss of travel and the stiffness. I want a better ride and to return the sporty-ness of my Sportster. I think it was lowered with Progressive springs. Looks like the stock damper rods were probably replaced with shorter ones (from a Hugger maybe?). Now I need stock damper rods (and maybe fork tubes) to install because I want to return the forks to stock height. I have a couple of questions: On the 883R bikes, what is the stock distance between the bottom of the lower triple tree fork clamp and the top of the chrome dust cover ring on the forks? Right now, with my bike in lowered style, that distance is only 3 1/2 inches. Looking at other Sportsters, I think that maybe should be about 5.5 inches or more, but I don’t have any Sportsters near me to measure. So I need some help please. Also, what length are the stock damper rods, top to tip (and if you know, the length of the shock tubes also) of a 2003 883R? And, can anyone offer a source for the stock damper rods? Or, does anyone have any that they have taken out when lowering their bike and they want to part with them? Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks a mucho gazillion!" Rusty

I have a 2005 Venture and a 37 foot 5 th wheel toyhauler. I have lowered my bike rear (Barons) and the front due to my short leges, 29 inch inseam. Yesterday I tried to load my bike and I hit the trailer floor right where the door/ramp meet the trailer floor. I had to back down the ramp without getting into the trailer. Has anyone found a way to change the angle of the ramp ? I would hate to raise the bike back to stock because I am happier with the bike being lowered. I plan of leaving next week for Rockford, Il. then Seattle, Wa. then Anchorage and need to get my bike loaded. Cb

Cb in M/H. Sorry for my late reply. I used all my Wifi data card for last month. The site that has a foot after you cut off the end is www.motorwerk.com . I just tried it and the site worked. Go to Kaw., then the Versys. I purchased the bike two weeks ago and have already lowered the front and rear. I purchased BOTH stand kits ... the large one dosn't really fit the Venture but the smaller foot will. It works on hard surfaces but not too sure on gravel. Any questions plase ask....... Cb

I have lowered the front forks 7/8 inch. Now when I put the fork tree on there is a 7/8 gap from the top of the fork and tree top ? Have I done something wrong or do I just tightened the upper fork bolts and not be able to put air the front shocks ? I have tried to read all the post about front lowering and have not seen this problem ...could someone please put a photo of the tree after it was lowered....thank you everybody. Cb

The previous owner of my '03 RSMV lowered the front by moving the forks up the triple tree one inch. He did this because he was shorter, but I am 6'3" and thought that I may like the bike a little higher. Really, for no particular reason as it looks fine and seems to handle OK as it is. I saw on some other postings that some say the bike handles better with the front lowered like this. If so, I am fine with leaving it as it is. Mine is the only 2nd Gen I have ridden so I have nothing to compare it to and would appreciate any input. :scratchchin:What has been your experience? Does the bike handle better with the front lowered? Thanks! Don

The 05 Midnight Venture I have has been lowered. What would I need to do to reverse this and return the bike to the way it was? I was going to purchase the leveling links from DiamondR to raise the bike back up. Is there any thing else that is needed that is a must to do? Thanks.

Price lowered on RSV, see kd4uvc on 2nd generation ads.

My Venture is lowered and now i need to shorten my kick stand a bit. I was wondering about how much i need to take out of it? I am thinking maybe an inch, does that sound about right? Also to those of you who have cut your stands, did you cut it above or below the loop on the stand?

Just lowered the list on my '87 VR if anyone's interested.

Are quite the opposite when applied to lowering the front of a RSV. Thanks to all of you guys for the detailed directions about how to do this! I got the project completed and lowered the front, one inch. But, mathematically knowing better, I actually envisioned a one inch lowered seating. Big dumb mistake! No one had mmentioned that when lowering the front one inch that the seat would only be lowered by 1/2 inch. Lowering another 1/2 inch now would only give me about another 1/4 inch lower seat, and that's too much work to gain just a 1/4 inch. Guess I'll just add a 1/4 inch rubber sole on the cowboly boots! Ha. So, just remember that what ever amount that you lower the front, the seat will be only lowered about 1/2 that amount. (Guess everyone knows that but me!) Ride safely and watch out for those crazy cars! ___________________________________________________- I should of stood in bed!

I don't need help lowering front end, thanks to Freebird's write up, I already lowered it 1" and think it's great. In fact I like it so much that I am thinking of lowering it another 1/2". So my question is has anyone out there lowered yours 1" and then decided to lower it more, and if so what was your opinion. Is it worth the extra work?

I had my dealer lower the front of my 09 RSV about a week ago. The bike does seem to feel a bit lower on the front and maybe handling is a little better, although I didn't have much problem with slow speed riding before. The main reason I wanted to lower the front 1" was to help flat foot at stop lights. Unfortunately I don't really notice much difference after the mod. I could always put one foot down flat and the other foot was touching except for the heel which was still about 1/2" off the pavement. I'm 5' 11" and not sure what my inseam is. Now I'm wondering if my dealer actually lowered the front (paranoia setting in). I can't remember how they looked before but the top of the fork tubes (air valves) are about 1" above the triple tree....would that confirm that the bike was actually lowered? Thanks guys, David

I Lowered the rear of my bike using the Baron's kit and it did make a difference on my seat height and at higher speeds the bike handles good, but I noticed at slow speeds, the bike gets swirly. My question is, has anyone lowered the front too and if you did, was slow speed handling better? Also, with the rear lowering kit I have to be careful where I park to make sure the bike does not fall over. I'm sure by lowering the front too I will have to modify the sidestand. Please advise.

Lowered the front end 1 inch using tech step by step instructions. (Those need to be better with photos) Now I can't add air to the front suspension because handle bars are touching the air ports. Any ideas besides removing the handlebars to add air?

Hey just wanted to thank all of you that posted forums on how to lower the front end of an RSV. I used the info and lowered mine yesterday....WOW!!!! What a difference! I never thought it would change the handling as much as it did. Someone should contact Yamaha and tell them to sell RSV's w/ shorter fork tubes and Avon tires.

Question for those with highway lights and lowered front end. Do you have any problems with the lowers (plexi wings) hitting? I also plan on putting a spacer on the light bar to move it away from the faring and this will lower it some also. I broke one side bottoming out and am making replacements so I can make them shorter. Thanks Rod 2 days to Utah trip and the bike is in pieces, but they are clean.
