I just bought a '99 RSV, and the original owner had replaced the ignition switch, leaving me with a different key for the rest of the locks. My question is, since they are double-sided keys, if two locksets can be cut on the same key? I know there are more pins/tumblers in these locks, but on older Ford vehicles you could cut 2 different vehicle ignition keys on one key, one on one side, one on the other, it would require a blank key to start out with. Just an inquiring mind thing.

Can someone tell me what size the handlebars are for the cheap cruise control throttle locks on the 83 ventures? 7/8 or bigger.

My radio is giving me trouble and it is not always the same symptoms. Often is locks up completely or locks up partially. At times I will not be able to change channels or change settings. It does not seem to follow any pattern although I think it is better when you shut the key off and back on. Sometimes it will not play at all. Often times FM or AM stations will cut out when I open the throttle and immediately come back on when I let off (kinda sounds like a loose connection on this symptom). Any thoughts? Ryan

Hey.. how do I remove the bags from an 83 without the key ? The bags are open, but seem to be locked on the bike. I need to get the bags off so I can remove a hitch from one of my part bikes. I don't want to damage the bags. Do I drill off the locks inside ?

OK.. with the Hannigan conversion you loose the helmet locks that were mounted under the top trunk. What's everyone doing with their helmets when your fully loaded down? I had to replace my helmet from the accident last year and the new version is slightly higher on the top and will no longer fit in the top trunk either. I looked at a couple of other lock mounting systems but curious what everyone has found to work for them. pa_don

Anyone have some helmet locks laying around they are not using? The previous owner of my 06 RSV took them off along with many other things and I would like to have some back there. Of course I would need a key to go with them. Let me know what you want for them and I am sure we can work something out. Thanks Mongo

Hello everyone: I have a project I'm working on. I am trying to put an 87 trunk onto my 84. The color matches and I have almost all the 85 hardware to make it work. The only things I need are the two pieces of steel that hold the trunk to the locks on the rack. If anyone has an 85 trunk that is broken or in bad shape and would be willing to part with some of the hardware I'd be extremely happy.

Any help appreciated the radio on my 08 RSV locks up randomly - can't change stations or enen shut it off for that matter. Only thing that will do anything is the volume dial. Until I pull into the dealers lot and park then works normal! Frustrating! Ken!

Hi Guys, how are you all. I went on holiday camping over here in the UK, while i was packing to come home i closed my pannier boxes and boot lid on my RSV and guess what i locked my keys inside, even worse was i didn't know which box i locked them in. I had no tools as they were locked in box so i was knackered. I called our national breakdown service and after waiting 4 hours ( because England were playing ) they could not help me. So another 2 hours passed and we were relayed with bike home about 3am. I managed to pick the locks with a pair of manicure scissors ( not mine by the way ) but i had to remove the thin chrome covers. ( see photos ) Then i took the helmet locks to pieces and removed there chrome covers and put them on the pannier locks. What i am looking for now if possible is anyone who has 2 helmet locks so i can get the chrome covers off them,( you cannot dismantle the pannier locks to get chrome covers of but you can fit them on ). Reason is they look crap without the covers and i still want to use the same key all round bike. If you can help i will pay for items and postage to UK. I lost one of the Helmet Locks off of my 2003 Venture. Bought a new one from Yamaha and took it to a locksmith to get it re-keyed to match my other locks. It could not be done. Yamaha has replaced the old lock with one that has an opposite key shape. The old key will not even fit into the new lock. Does anyone have an older lock that they want to get rid of or do you know where I can find old stock?

What are some of the LITTLE things you have added to your bike that most people might not have thought of...either ornamental or practical? For example, I have the License plate grifter plate: http://www.bikesax.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=ACCGRIFT01&Category_Code=ACC-ESS This little gem locks and can keep your paper work...extra keys, a small flash light, fuses...and best of all, it locks. It is not really stealth...but you do need to know what you are looking for. Anyone else? Wally

I have locks on the saddlebags and trunk for my 07 RSV but, I do not have the key. These bags were installed after the bike had been wrecked. Can these be rekeyed? Or, locks purchased that match the ignition?

I finished my Garmin install and took some time to upgrade my rear lighting. I did the L.E.D. upgrade to my trunk lights last year. They work great but tend to wash out in full sunlight. I liked the undermount bar that many folks are installing on the 2nd Generation bikes. So, how to get that 15" bar under my trunk? The answer, remove the helmet locks and put an aluminum bar in their place. I countersunk places for the original screws and then mounted the light bar over top of them. On the ends of the aluminum bar I reinstalled the helmet locks. Tapped all of the holes and applied some blue locktite. Now, I have a bright running/brake light unit just above the tail light. It looks like it blocks the original unit, but I can remove the lens to change the bulbs with the bar in place. JB -

The set includes: Keyed ignition switch trunk mounting lock trunk lid lock 2 saddlebag mounting locks 2 saddlebag lid locks 2 helmet locks dashboard lock One original yamaha key that fits all locks Anyone interested PM me.

Two of the locks holding the bag on the bike are not activating meaning I can't take them off. (The third has a new(er) lock w. separate key) Are these things repairable? Does someone have two (preferable 3) replacement locks? Or do i need to buy new ones and if so where? Thanks!!

Hey all, Can anyone tell me the size of the steering head nut I need to loosen to adjust my steering head? Don's got a great write up in the tech section, but I apparently don't have a large enough open end wrench and I don't want to use channel locks and risk messing up the bolt head. Thanks for the help.

Wow, I just gave my little girl away in Marriage. It's kinda hard to believe how quick our kids grow up! My son Kyle lives in Ballard. It's an area that has locks that allow travel to lake Union and Washington. Would appreciate some feedback on what VR's do to secure their scoots when overnighting on a ride. Do you use disc locks, cable locks, ordinary padlocks, etc. and if so, any particular brands that are better or worse than others? Not too concerned about price, I just want something that is not too bulky and will ensure I've got a bike to ride in the morning!! Thanks for your feedback.

Do you have these? Do you leave them dangling on the locks when not in use? I USED to until today. I was cleaning the bike this evening. Lo and behold, there are numerous marks and nicks in the paint on the truck, right above the locks. They now have a permanent place in my truck if not hanging a helmet. So, if you have them hanging, you might want to check and take them off. If you don't have them, take heed.

my parts list is winding down. the list under 'parting out '83' is now on page 10 and is getting smaller. however, the carbs, saddlebags, and trunk are still available due to a buyer ceasing contact. the carbs are in surprisingly good shape and all linkages function the trunk has typical stress cracks. there is some corrosion/crazing on the metal parts, but not too bad. locks work saddlebags have some corrosion as well but are still in good shape. the upper locks work, but the ones that attach the bag to the bike are frozen. i havent had a chance to work on them further. make me an offer, im tired of this stuff taking up garage space!!!

First i would like to thank everyone who helped with my starting problem. Second to everyone who offered to take it off my hands. If i ride it and don't like it i will let you guy fight for it. The winner gets it for the same price i did free but it must be a fight to the death to be webcast here live or no deal. Now the problem i have is the lids practically need to be pried open to get in. The locks push in and when opened finally the hinges work well. I am afraid i'll rip a top off opening one it takes so much pulling to get it open. Any ideas
