Just heard that State Route #130, a toll road between San Antonio and Austin, TX, are changing the speed limit to 85 mph! Now that should be a good way to clean out your carbs! Yama Mama:225::225:

While out today, I encountered a fairly new 911 type convertible Porsche moving thru some traffic in front of me on the split four lane. He went around some slow traffic coming out of a red light and nailed it a bit. I followed him with him having a run on me for a couple of seconds and then we quit accelerating at about 65 in a 55mph speed limit. I ended up pairing off with him at the next light, about 3/4 a mile later, and was curious as to what he would do. As we sat waiting for the light to change, I did a quick 360º view so see what was around. When the light changed, we both nailed it. From zero to 70mph we stayed exactly side by side, even through my shift from 1st to 2nd. At 70mph, with me topping out in 2nd at 8,000 rpm's, we both decided that was as fast as we wanted to go and slowed back down to about 60mph. I looked over at him and he gave me a big smile and a thumbs up. I have done a few red light runs over the years and may make a run up to maybe a little over the speed limit, but I just don't do the runs much over the speed limit now, getting too old. I really wanted to tell him that he was just matched by a 26 year old bike with 123,000 miles on it, and the guy riding it was a Great Grand Father, but I didn't. That was the strongest stock looking street car I have paired off with in a long time. I did not look to see if it was a turbo, but it was quick. RandyA

So erhm on a recent trip to and from NYC, I'm rushing through Maine at a decent pace late one night / early morning when all of a sudden over the rise I come up onto a brown car in the fast lane, and he ain't going fast.. so I swing over to the right, flash of lights and signal to alert the driver of my intentions of passing him on the right cause apparently the slow drivers love the left lane and won't budge.. but the closer I got to him it was ooops, State Trooper.. Ooooh.. Ok hi there.. A quick peek at the speedo shows me doing closer to the speed limit than I had thought so no worries.. but when I slid past him I got the lights to pull over. Anticipating this, I come onto the binders and pull over to the far right in time to watch him shoot past me and have to reverse until he can stop behind me like he oughta.. I'm WAY over to the right, almost to the ditch to make sure the gentleman won't be in harm's way when he comes over to me. Me, being a kind and decent soul have no one to blame but myself for speeding so I'm not going to make his life difficult for my sillyness. Nice guy eh? He sashays up to me like a Trooper would, hand on gun, ready for anything.. "Do you know why I stopped you" he asks.. "No sir, I do not know why you stopped me.. why did you stop me?" "You have NO idea why?" he asks again.. Erhm again my answer is no. "I pulled you over for speeding. May I see your driver's license and registration" he requests. He goes off to his car, takes a while and then comes back and asks "Do you know how fast you were going?" "Yes, I was doing the posted speed limit..." "Oh no you weren't he declared, otherwise I would not have pulled you over for speeding.. How fast do you think you were going?!" again he asks.. "Without trying to make an argument out of this, I earnestly believe I was doing the posted speed limit, hence why I was able to pull over onto the shoulder so quickly while you shot past me like you did. I believe YOU were travelling much slower than the posted speed limit in the wrong lane..." was my response.. After this goes on for a few minutes, he hands me a warning ticket with no posted speed declaration on the ticket.. The poor guy had no means of knowing how fast I was going since I came up to him from behind so quickly, and pulled over before I got in front of him enough to get a bead on me.. And though I'm not from Maine, I would daresay that he can't issue a speeding ticket without a tag on my speed.. either by Ladar or by my own admission.. Mom said I was born at midnight, not last night Needless to say I locked my cruise control down to the posted speed limit after that until I got back into Canada lol.. But the question (after a long story, sorry) is that can a Trooper give you a ticket only by his gut sense that you were speeding or does he need a confirmation of such?

Dealer offered me a chance to test ride it, so I did. I had to ask them several times to make sure they were serious. They said yes, so off I went. Nice nimble little bike. Not sure I would would take it cross country or anything like that, but had fun. I think it would be good for putting around town on. But it did sit way too high for me. At least I could get 1 foot flat on the ground when I leaned over at a stop light. Probably could have gotten pulled over for unsafe start too or whatever they want to call it. I kinda hammered it at a stop light, but I will say that I didn't go over the speed limit, I just took the quickest route to get to the speed limit. http://www.metriccruisers.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_e_biggrin.gif I looked over and sure enough there was a cop sitting on the side of the road, but they didn't do anything.

Does anyone know a way to increase the maximum speed setting for the cruise? While riding out west, there were some roads that had a speed limit of 80 (Utah) and many other states with a limit of 75. My cruise will allow a maximum speed of 80. My wrist is still sore from holding the throttle at 85 to 90 MPH. RR

Hi all. I read the threads about bottoming forks. My question is, this did not happen until I had the shop put new seals in. A local person tells me there is a part inside the fork, that if it is upside down, it will limit the shock travel. Anyone know if there is any truth to this. Thanks. Another question? Do the forks need to be bled? I put the oil in after the forks were on the bike.

Does anyone have any of those neoprene face masks. The full face ones. How are they for comfort, do they move around on your face, are they warm, do they limit your visibility, do they cause your glasses to fog?

If this stirs the wrong pot, please delete it. It is my understanding that we ( The Tax paying Americans ) have bailed out CITI corp 2 times, may have only been one time but we are talking billions here.. am I correct? Well, today in the mail, I get a " Congratulations " Letter from CITI, stating that they just increased my limit on my card to 23k..... and we wonder why the whole system is going to &%$#.. Sorry I`m done now.. Just really tweeks me off...

I ask this because I got a ticket on my bike today. I was in light to moderate traffic, and was driving the traffic rather than watching the speedo. A motorcycle cop got me for 41 in a 25 mph zone. I truthfully thought it was 35, but that's not the issue. For the cop and the city of Myrtle Beach, it's all about the speed limit. They are determined to make it difficult for bikers in the city properby ticketing every possible infraction. I'm not upset with the cop mind you, he's just doing his job the way he's been told to do it. In fact he was almost apologetic about it and reminded me 3 times that if I will show up on the court date he could help me out. I've talked to other officers (friends) before in other situations and they have pretty much all said the same thing: In the car, they're more inclined to do the speed limit and watch the speedo more often; when on the bike, in heavier traffic, they do what I was doing....tend to drive the traffic rather than the speedometer. And there is the rub! Darned if you do and darned if you don't. Around here, moreso than other places, for many reasons, if you rigidly stick to the speed limits, you're gonna make people mad and/or get run over or into or off the road! I was over the posted limit, yes, but I feel I was safer doing it. That's not to say I disregard the speed limits altogether, I'm just more concerned with the traffic, when on the bike. So, what is your opinion or practice? Speed limit or traffic? What do you use as your guide?

Looking for some advice....I just got the trunk rack and I noticed on the rack there is a sticker that says 10 lb limit....I am assuming that limit is actually meant for what the trunk can hold but is that 10 lb limit realistic?? I want to be able to put a bag on there for a trip but also don't want to damage the trunk. Can anyone help with limitations?? Thanks in advance... Dee
