Need some help guys. I've been looking for a small welder to do some light welding and picked up one at an auction this past weekend. It's a small Home-n-Shop Craftsman stick welder that has the goofyest lead set up I've ever seen. Wondering if any of our resident welders might have a clue on what it is and how they're used.... Pics attached.

Its time to do some maintenance on the bike. I broke my leg. I have the valve shim kit, but lost my valve tool. I remember a member who sells the tool, but its not in the list of member classified listings. I'll also be looking to buy a clutch kit. Can anyone here lead me in the right direction? The pain killers are mudddling my brain. I may also need some plastic repair kit.

2007 GL1800 Audio--- Asking for recommendations for GPS with external audio connection so I can connect it to the Auxillary lead cord in the left fairing pocket. I have installed the power outlet, and have the aux. connector lead wire in the pocket. So-o-o-o I should have all the necessary hook-ups available, just need to know what to shop for so it can be connected for us to hear it through our headsets. Oh yeh, and to mount it. I have Garmin 255W for the truck and car and it works fine for us, but has no connection for external speakers. Thanks.

We put a sidecar on our RSV for the wife, couldn't handle the long rides anymore. We have a 10 yr old Lab and she wants to go riding so looks like the dog will win out. I have her in a harness and short lead attached but was wondering if anyone has a different setup for their dog? Dogs rule. Thanks, labill

Well folks - it's that time of year again when me and my brothers spend a few days travelling to meet up, sink a few coldies, barbecue a few steaks and generally chill out. This is the seventh (consecutive) year we've done it, but this year is different and special - because our only sister is joining us. I've posted details, photos and video links in the past and this year will be no different. When I get back I'll flick you a few foters. In the mean time - brief details are - over 4 days we'll do around 1600kms (1,000 miles) each to get to our destination at Brunswick Heads on the north coast of New South Wales - and turn around after 2 days there and head home again. Who cares how far it is? It's not the destination but the ride that matters, eh? Meantime, I've made a few mods to the RSV so I can run my GPS, mobile phone and MP3 player (and still have power to spare.) I bought one of those 12V plug in gizmos that has 3 12V sockets and a USB outlet. Secured it to the top of my brake fluid canister on the right bar - using a couple of cable ties. The GPS is attached to the screen, with gaffer tape 'reinforcing'. My little 4GB MP3 player clips on to the power lead for the GPS. It's connected to the power supply by a USB lead and the earphone outlet is connected to the radio system via the Auxiliary MP3 jack. My mobile phone is in a pouch that is secured by velcro to the right side mirror stem. I've taken a photo of the set-up so you can see what I'm talking about. Catch you all back here in 4 or 5 days. Cheers, Spear

I bought a used amplifier on ebay and the previous owner had changed the plug with one that wouldn't match my wiring harness plug. Most of his leads were labled and I have them all wired up except two. They are the orange and yellow lead coming out of the amp. I think they go to the sb (sky blue) and lg (light green) lead that go to the remote controller but I don't know which goes to which. Could someone help me out. My bike is an 89 Venture Royale and some of the wiring colors may have changed with the models. The wiring diagrams I found all are just "block" diagrams that don't show the exact pin locations, etc. I don't have a headset to try the remote controller if I wanted to connect them one way and then the other to see which one works. I'd rather not do that as I don't want to damage the controller. Thank you for your help. Sam

OK guys (and gals) here's a poser for ya! If a speeder in a car is a "lead foot" or "heavy footed"....what is a biker? We "floor it" and "put the pedal to the metal" in a car...what do we do on a bike? ....somehow "heavy wristed" just doesn't cut it.

I am finally ready to assemble battery cables for 1st Gens. Getting my shop useable has been a pain in the rear. I plan on making enough for all who need them plus 3-4 extra sets. The price of copper has skyrocketed. I now pay 0.25 per foot more than last year. By purchasing the supplies carefully, I can keep the prices the same as last year. So, please reply to this thread and let me know how many sets to make. The cable is available locally so it won't take long to finish a batch. Cable from battery to solenoid is 8". Cable from solenoid to starter is 34". Cable from battery to ground is 34". The aux. leads are 8" and made from 10 gauge. I made all of the cables 2" longer than stock to allow for the increased bend radius. I have also added a ground and a positive 12 gauge accessory lead for any extra items. All 4 gauge terminals are soldered using 50/50 rosin core. The crimped ends also have solder. All terminals have adhesive wall shrink tubing applied to seal the wires. I am finishing them off by sealing any open ends with Liquid Electrical Tape. The positive aux. lead has a ring terminal to attach to the screw inside the stock fuse holder. Just remove the 3/8" blade terminal and use the screw for the ring terminal. The aux. ground lead attaches with a posilock. Price is $40.00 shipped via Priority flat rate to the US and $46.00 to Canada. If you want a posilock fuse holder for the 12 gauge lead, add $4.00. NO MONEY YET!! NEED A HEAD COUNT!! J.B.

Hello, I appreciate any help in this matter. I am working on a 1985 XVZ12D Venture Royale with a no-spark condition on the front left cylinder. So far I have tested ignition coils, primary and secondary, spark plug cap ends, swapped the front left coil primary leads with the left rear cylinder coil primary leads and it did spark with this change. I have performed a very thorough continuity test on all of the leads from the TCI module to all four of the ignition coils and all of the leads from TCI to the pick-up coils. I did not find any open circuits or bad connections on any of them. I have checked ground and power circuits to TCI and they are good. I performed an ohms value test on the four pick up coils and found similar results as another user at this forum had found. One of the values was in range and three of them seem to be twice the value. The book procedure states testing all four leads individually, (black, gray, white/red and white/green), combined with the orange lead. I read a value of 115 ohm on the black lead and 220 + ohm on the other three. The front left cylinder lead is the gray. I have since removed the pick-up coil assembly from the engine, cleaned and inspected for any bad insulator or signs of trouble and have found nothing. They look as if they may have been replaced in the recent past. While inspecting them I noticed the common lead to both sets of pick-up coils is the black lead. I decided to perform the same ohm test as stated in the manual, but use the black lead as the common instead of the orange lead. After performing this test I found that all four ohm values are in within usable range and not doubled on three of them as when I use the orange lead as the common. Is the manual wrong on the color? Should I be using the black for this test? The orange lead seems to go to only one of the pick-up coils and not shared with any other! I could sure use some help here, I don’t want to condemn this part inadvertently. If I am correct on what I have found on the test it seems as if the TCI or CDI module may be at fault. Any thoughts? I sure appreciate any help on this. Our local Yamaha dealer is no help. I have just received great help from a member here that found that the manual info may be wrong on the test procedure... He found a schematic PDF file that is in the Tech area that has the "black" lead as the common. Very critical information if you are testing the pick-up coils on a first generation. Be sure the black lead is Y'd into both pick-up coils to ensure this is the common before performing a ohms test!

This Sunday is Biker Sunday at our church. After church there will be a meal and some biker games. Afterwards there will be a 50 mile ride. The pastor has asked me to lead the ride. The route has been laid out. All two lane state hwy. The middle section has several 15 & 25 mph curves. We are expecting somewhere between 50 to 100 bikes. I've never road with a group before (let alone lead one). So what is a recomended speed to travel for the ride, and the curves? Thanks! for the help.

I have read in past postings about connecting new toys to the "accessory lead". Where would I find this wire on my 06 RSTD? Headlight housing? Fuse panel? I just purchased a Garmin Zumo 660 GPS and will be hooking it up this weekend. I already have a couple of other leads connected directly to the positive post on the battery so it is getting a little crowded at that location. If someone can point me in the right direction and perhaps let me know what the colour coding is for this wire that would help speed up the installation project for this weekend!

I was all set to get Goldie inspected Friday afternon. I pulled it out into the driveway and started it up, left it idling, and went in to get my wallet and helmet. Came out and smoke was rising from the side cover! Seems that I forgot to redress the power lead for the running lights on the chrome chin, and it was against the exhaust pipe. Stupid me!!!!! Now I get to chaqnge out the harness, and hope that the regulator, and my new high output stator, are still all right...

I have a 06 RSTD. Im getting alternator whine from somewhere on my frontend when i get to around 60mph and up. Varying intensity I dont know if theres a weak ground or something. Does anyone else hear a whine around the speedo when they get up that fast. The other part of this is I tried checking my grounds. SOMEONE PLEASE check With a VOM mV from the neg lead to the battery and the pos lead to the bars. Then turn to ignition. Everywhere on my bike shows gounded 2.5mV but the bars and tank show 200-300 mV. Dont know if this means anything. Dont know why the bars arent grounding as they're attached to the triple trees and those show good. I know 300 mV isnt crap but it may point an issue. Please any ideas im going on a long trip in a few weeks and, this sound is driving me insane. Thanks Jeremy

Questions for you electronic tech geek types. I'm installing a cylindrical electrolytic capacitor for noise suppression, from the hot lead to ground. The cap, from Radio Shack, has one end where the lead comes out of a plastic insulating disc, and the other end is all metal with the lead coming out. There is an arrow on the body pointing from the plastic end to the metal end. Is there polarity on the cap? Which end goes to hot, and which to ground? What would happen if it was installed backward? Thanks, Jeremy

Wondering if there's anyone that can tell me where to get a good backrest for my 2003 Venture. I met a couple from Canada last week with a 2006 Venture with what he said was a Yamaha OEM backrest. I checked through Yamaha and I wasn't able to find one. If someone could could lead me to Yamaha's backrest that would be great, or if anyone has a backrest they love on their second generation Venture, I'd be very appreciative to find out where they got it. Thanks, Terry
