I had a talk with my grandson about a week ago about me seeing him cranking it on with him on his CBR600 and he was going to get a ticket. The thing about it is, you can sometimes get by the Laws of the Land, but when you don't stay within the Laws of Physics, you can really get in trouble. He is again scheduled to be in surgery in the morning and they will try to see how much muscle damage there is, as they have to keep taking out dead muscle tissue and are trying to stop the bleeding before his leg can be closed up. We do appreciate all the thoughts and prayers. RandyA

Was following a thread that mentioned American Motorcyclist magazine and a letter how racers were spoiling riding for the rest of us. Couldn't read the letter without signing up with them but did find this interesting pdf about the different State laws regarding riding. For a good summary... go to http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/asp/legisltn/OnHwyLawChart.pdf or... http://www.calsci.com/motorcycleinfo/PrintLaws.html For Canada... this article was good http://ezinearticles.com/?6-Things-You-Must-Consider-Before-a-Canadian-Motorcycle-Ride&id=1391477 or ... http://www.ehow.com/list_7224801_canadian-motorcycle-helmet-laws.html (didn't know I can't listen to music thru my helmet speakers !). Also... probably won't affect Venture riders but keep exhaust sound laws in mind too. Sorry... hijacking my own thread but for a history on motorcycle helmets.. http://www.thehistoryof.net/the-history-of-motorcycle-helmets.html Tips from an insurance company http://www.kanetix.ca/ic_moto_info_moto_articles_03

I will be off to Las Vegas July 3rd leaving from Toronto Canada. We must always wear a helmet in Canada so I have a question about helmet laws in the following States? It would be a treat to feel the wind blow thru what little hair I have before it is all gone. Route down: Michigan Ohio Indiana Illinois Missouri Kansas Colorado New Mexico Arizona Nevada Possible route home: Texas Louisiana Mississippi Alabama Florida Georgia Tennessee Kentucky Any knowledge that you might have would be greatly appreciated.

I am leaving Sunday on a trip from Texas to AZ and the Grand Canyon. w00t! I saw via another thread that some states have requirements for retroreflective material on helmets, and that got me wondering. Are there any laws in NM and AZ that I should be aware of? Dave

Mom Nabbed for Breastfeeding While Driving http://www.newser.com/story/52071/mom-nabbed-for-breastfeeding-while-driving.html It never ceases to amaze me at just how stupid the human race can be sometimes. This is a classic example of why "Big Brother" thinks he has to make so many ridiculous laws to protect us from ourselves. A few people out of how many millions does something stupid, and now we ALL will have to suffer the consequences.

New year brings new traffic laws. If you have not already read up on the new traffic laws here is a link to a full article...applies to CA riders... http://cbs2.com/local/new.traffic.laws.2.621080.html Just thought this was worth sharing...especially SB 67 allows police officers to impound a vehicle for 30 days when a person is arrested for street racing, exhibition of speed or reckless driving.

My apologies if this has been posted. If this is a dead horse then it can be deleted. The following ran in last Thursday's USAToday http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2007-11-01-motorcycledeaths_N.htm?csp=34 Excerpt: Helmet laws have been repealed or modified in many states, however, and the DOT's new effort does not call for new helmet laws. Instead, the initiative focuses on: •Training. DOT will develop national standards for entry-level motorcycle riders to achieve what Peters calls "a baseline of competency." •Enforcement. DOT will create a training program to teach police officers about specific efforts to reduce crashes. •Education. Public service announcements will feature Peters on the importance of helmets and other protective gear. A "Share the Road" campaign will remind drivers to be alert for motorcyclists.. I think the training is excellent. I think too many people ride who are not qualified to ride. Education of the cager - much needed though I'm not real optimistic about it's impact. Your thoughts???

As some of you know, next summer Im planning on a long trip BUT as im researching some state laws about handlebar height, pipes ect...it turns out that my bars are illegal in AL,AK,DE,GA,IN,LA,MD,MI,MO,NE,OH, RI,TX,UT,VT & WV...THATS 16 STATES. What sux is that Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Indiana,Missouri and Texas were on my path. My pipes are illegal in AZ,CA,CT,DE,FL,ID,IL,KY,MD,MA,MI,MN,MS,MT,MS,NV,NH.NY,ND,OH,OK,OR,PA,RI AND WA...THATS 24 STATES! My trip will take me into Florida,Illinois, Kentuky,Mississippi, Louisiana, Missouri, and Oklahoma. I REALLY dont wanna change my bike all around and have to buy new bars and risers and exhaust...my question is- how vigorously do these states enforce these laws.
