I just had a thought... I know..I know.. about putting together a list of features, or subtle differences, between all years of the 1stGens. Maybe a good idea...maybe not, but outside of colors which are listed in Venture History it might be fun to put together something. So I'll start, chime in if you can think of anything that first appeared in that year and I'll add it to the list. If I don't get any response I'll figure it was a bad idea and pick up my marbles and go away.... 1983 1. TCI is unique 2. vacuum advance comes off carb. 3. Dash is unique 4. Front brake and Gear shifter are adjustable 5. Hydralic anti-dive 1984 1. TCI changed 2. vacuum advance comes off manafold. 3. Choke set rotates in front of LH Grip 4. Cruise Control 5. Dimmer knob, gear position, stop watch added to Dash 6. 1985 1. Larger removable trunk.. unique 2. V-Max tranny after #1417 3 Choke set back to slider 1986 1. 1300 engine 2. Larger saddle bags 3. Larger trunk 4. Choke setting back to slider under horn button 5. larger 4 piston calipers and rotors 6. Wider passenger seat 7. Headlight changed in 86 to include different headlight bucket, top frame that mounts dash, adjustment mech, left side upper frame and headlight ring 8. passenger foot boards added 9. Muffler mount spacer larger 10. OEM CB added 11. chin scoop out of ABS 12. Engine guards redesigned to take new scoop 13. Windshield chrome strip changed to one piece 14. wider fork mount for 100mm calipers 15. Front brake and gear shifter non-adjustable. 16. clutch springs, pressure plate changed. 17. extra bleeder valve for left front brake near ignition switch. 18. Cruise Control lights on ignition switch cover. 19. Electrical anti-dive. 20. Longer drive shaft and modified final. 1987 1988 1. Standard XVZ1300 Discontinued 1989 1990 1. front fork boots attach a at the bottom. 2. TCI changed 1991 1992 1993 1994 1. European only

Anyone know where one can order replacement lenses. Small one is for the lower wrap around side bag guard. Larger one is for the lower chrome unit below the turn signal and Yamaha Lens.

Does anyone know of, or have seen anywhere a larger version of the hard saddlebags for the RSTD ? What I want (ha ha ha) is to have my '06 RSMTD bags be taller, or higher. The width, length, etc. is fine, but IMHO these bags are too small. I am used to much larger saddlebags, and a tour trunk. Since I have a bike that did not come with a tour trunk, and...I have removed the rear seat and passenger backrest to make my bike a solo ride...I have a need for much larger saddlebags. As for the idea from some of you that I could install a rear rack, and put a tour trunk on that...I already have a rear fender rack, in place of where the rear seat was...and bolted to that is a newer aluminum rack, and bolted to that is a Saddleman Leather trunk that is used to house my Aux. Fuel Tank (another 5 gallons). So there is no room for an additional trunk in that area. If I cannot find a suitable aftermarket saddlebag that fits nicely in place of where my original OEM hard bags are (and I do have the yamaha chrome rails that go around the saddlbags), then...my choice would be to either have a plastics manufacturer alter my current bags to be about 4 inches taller...simply the slice and paste method, which would still allow me to utilize all the OEM mounting system, the OEM lids and locking systems. All I would be doing is extending the height of the current bags, to raise the top of the lids up to the level of the rear fender. That would give me approximately 42.395 % more storage space (I did say it was approximate). Or...failing that...I could find a good leather saddlebag maker to make me a complete set of new saddlebags, hard formed...that would be of the perfect size, and that would be close to looks to match the bike. If they are hard formed enough, they would be as good as the OEM bags, only larger. So...all you longtime searchers, have you heard of or seen any larger saddlebags that will fit the RSTD ? If not...and if I have my current ones remade my a plastics (ABS) manufacturer into what I have described above (with pictures to follow), would anyone else be interested in having this done too? Thanks,

http://video.ca.msn.com/watch/video/road-rage-carnage-in-brazil/1glbj4sni?from=sharepermalink-facebook&cpkey=26d16d18-deb8-4205-a706-3cde26b4a8e8%7c%7c%7c%7c I always envision this happening around where I work. Too many hot-heads behind the wheel during rush-hour. Our bikes may be larger than others, but they are still no match for even a compact car. Stay cool everyone!

Well, it's winter around here and I just bought my bike (MK1) so I'm taking it apart, cleaning it, fixing all the broken plastic tabs, replace screws as needed... etc. and, I find this NEW HARNESS under the right hand side fairing box next to the cubby hole, just below the speaker... and I have no idea what it's for. Can anyone tell me what it's for? It is new, never been plugged into anything, has the larger two prong connector, a small two prong, a ground cable and goes to a harness controller and then feeds in behind the headlight and I assume to the battery from there. Check out the pic and let me know what you're thinking... THANKS

Any one out there have one? how do you like yours; I'v had mine for a while now and just love it works like a charm. I been using it to log in here and post along with surfing the web, love the web top when hooked up to my TV. live streaming Netflix is very good not one problem with it yet. The dual core processor is very fast and the larger screen is much better for my old eyes over the smaller one on the droid one or two the voice to text is awsome!!! also the bigger screen makes it easy for my fat fingers to do the onscreen keypad. Does anyone know of a larger front crash bar for the 1st Gen? Something that provides better protection and still looks decent. I accidently dropped the VR in the garage and the thing laid absolutely flat. Nothing damaged. Something that would at least allow the VR to lay at an angle and protect the fairing and acessories.

so i ordered the larger pilot jets but just needed to see if I could find the screws and do the idle drop test to see if any of the pilots would not make a difference in rpm when turning them in. They all worked and it seemed that they were turned just about 2 1/2 turns from seated. i turned them out 1 full turn and re synched the carbs. they were off a bit. Felt better but tommorow morning will be the real test when starting from cold. how many turns out worked for you, did you eventually go with the larger pilots. with the larger pilots what setting should I used. how many turns out?

From what I’ve read on clutch and clutch slippage has left me with a couple questions. I'd like to do the spring upgrade but am now thinking of doing the plates as well, so-o-o... 1) Where and what do I ask for when ordering/upgrading my clutch springs? I believe I will also need a new gasket... anything else? Torque values? 2) I understand the friction thing but doesn’t switching from a half plate to a full plate decrease the pounds per square inch on the contact surface by distributing the pressure over a larger surface area?? Pressure vrs friction??? What are the advantages or disadvantages of the larger plates? Perhaps I'm just over thinking this?

Has anyone installed a set of hand shields on an RSV? How do they look, how do you like them? I have a set on my Valkyrie and especially like the way they keep the rain off my hands. My concern with the RSV is that the windshield and fairing are so much larger that the hand shields would cut almost all the air flow off, could get real hot in the summer. Anyway, here's the kind of thing I'm talking about.. http://shop.nationalcycle.com/perl/cycle/N5503? Thanks

Hey guys I am fairly fresh to the site. i couldnt find a classifieds section so if there is one ( moderator please move this for me) i have a windshield that is too short for me and was wondering if anyone had a larger one to sell or trade for a smaller one. Its in great condition with few light swirl marks. It came with my bike but I feel bad buffeting at 65 and above. Jose

I am going to put my tank back together after painting and then put on my 04 RSV. I went to put the front grommets back into the grommet hole & realized that one side is fatter. after looking at the service, user and parts manual, the pics aren't clear which side the larger end goes. Can someone tell me how to orient the larger grommet end - inside or outside of the grommet hole. I made a mental note of the orientation when removing them, but i have lost it. the mental note that is.

We would like to find a larger trunk for our '84 Venture. Our weekend away showed us we need more room. I know I saw the answer here but I can not find it. Does a trunk fom a 1985 fit onto the bracket on a 1984? The '85 is larger isn't it? If I go with an '86 and newer, I know I would need the mounting bracket, does the newer one bolt right up or are there mods needed? Thanks, Dave

On some of the posts, the pictures are about the width of the page. I have put my pictures in the smaller format to get them to load, but I like the larger pictures a lot better. They are easier to see and not having to click on them to get them to load would be a plus. Is there any downside to having bigger pictures posted as far as memory or bandwidth usage? What size are these larger pictures in pixals? RandyA

Doing some routine mintenance since we had all this rain and I found the wires to my heated grips broken. Tried to pull back and the connections actualy came off. I never really liked the grips I have and this might be a good time to replace them. Does anyone have a set of heated grips that are a little larger than stock that they've had luck with? the ones I have now are to thin, would like soomething a little larger in diameter? I looked in J&P and saw nothing?????

Where do the MKII's get the extra cubes compared to the MKI's? It it a larger bore? Longer stroke? Or both?
