  1. Ok So it was not a riding day yesterday so I decided To Adjust my Passing Lights. I had one adjusted last night and and gave up on the second. I went back at the second this AM and got it close enough and when I went to Secure everything.....nothing....no lights! After removing the fairing I checked the fuse I put in the power line by the battery and it was blowen.......Off I go to get a fuse thinking that was my problem. I put in a new fuse and I have power as far as the replay But nothing coming out of it. When I was adjusting the lights I would always have the key off when putting the lamp back in the holder so I didn't short it out that way. And the only movement was moving the lamp housing for adjustment and the darn signal lights turning a little. I have power to the relay #30 & #86 but nothing at #87. "I have no clue about wiring" just checking the basics! Does it sound like a relay issue? The new fuse did not blow? Any Idea Electrical Wizards Out There !!!!! Thanks Keith
  2. Yep. First drop of my 97 Royal Star. Cager pulled out in front of me at a 4-way stop just as I started. I stopped (thank God) in time but dumped the Bike over as I avoided her. No real damage except to my pride and the right side passing lamp and turn signal. Have the replacement lamp and signal located but I'll be @#$% if I can find anyone who sells the (10mm I think) hollow bolt that connects the passing lamp to the turn signal mount. Anyone have any ideas? Help! Michael Gardner 97 Royal Star
  3. So I would like to get some passing lamps and I like the tri-bar halogen ones. I inquired about one set with part number STR-4WM35-10-EA and was told they were the lamps only with out the Buckets? Another set with this part number I inquired about says there is no harness, just a wire coming out of the back. That Part number on Yamahas website says Tri Bar Passing Lamps, need to use with mount sold separately. So For a Tri bar set up what part number (s) do I need? does the connecting harness for the passing lamps come with lamp or the mount kit? Do I just need the 1D6 mount and the lamp set part number above? Was trying to do it cheap through different sources, but maybe going through one of the online dealers is the way to go even if its more money. Thanks. RSTDdog
  4. Anyone install the passing lamp bar spacer ( the one Tony makes) on a lowered front end 2nd gen? are there any issues with it hitting the fender? Thanks
  5. ...on one side. As far as I can tell, these are the original Yamaha passing lamps. Is there another sealed beam that will work or must I buy the original Yamaha lamp?
  6. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=56600&stc=1&d=1305504455 I just purchased a 2008 RSV and judging by the angle of the lower wind deflectors, relative to the fork angle, I question whether or not I have the right passing lamp mount. Could it be that this mount is for an RSTD? Paul
  7. Good afternoon everyone, Both hi and low beam on my 08 RSV went out last week. I have been reading the threads on this problem and have done the starter switch lube and fuse checking. I have read there might be a possibility of the Reserve Light Unit going bad but how often is this a problem? I'm not sure as to what direction to take at this point. Its difficult to get to the headlight lamp but is it possible for both hi and low to go bad in one lamp? Any suggestions would be helpful. By the way, everything else is working fine, it's just the headlight. Thanks Frank
  8. Started to install the passing lamp light bar on my 05 RSTD and noticed that the Headlamp bucket has a bracket that attaches to the stock light bar but there isn't any means to support the HL bucket on the new light bar..... What am I missing..?? Thanks for your help.
  9. I would like to install one of those light blue head lamps on my 89 VR. Anyone knows what I should get?
  10. I was coming home from work this evening and was making a slow left turn when my rear wheel slid out from under me and down I went. Luckily I was going real slow at the time and wasn't hurt. My bike a 96 Royal Star Tour Classic didn't get hurt to badly either. The crash bars did their job pretty well. My right saddle bag got a little road rash and I busted up my right front blinker and passing lamp. I have an extra blinker set and passing light bar but I do not have a passing lamp for the right side. I have one that works on the left side with the toggle switch but after a quick look they don't seem to be interchangeable. Would anyone out there possibly have a right side passing lamp that they would be willing to part with? Please P.M.me if you do. Thanks.. The only other thing I noticed while doing a quick check of the damage was that I have oil dripping from what looks like some type of overflow hose located near the front of the bike just back of the radiator. Any ideas on that? I have a 14 hour day at work tomorrow so I guess any work on the bike will have to wait for the weekend..Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
  11. I've not been satisfied with the Ajure passing lamp lens and I would like to go to a halogen housing. So I'm still wondering if the Vstar lamps will fit on the Venture light bar? The catalog says they are not for the Venture and I just wonder why they won't work. I know the switch is on the housing so it would be tough to reach if that was the only switch. Any other reasons? Dennis
  12. We purchased a visor for the front headlamp on our 2005 Midnight Venture but I don't quite see how the assembly comes out of the fairing. I don't have a service manual yet and don't want to break anything. The passing lamp visors installed without problems but I can't get the headlamp to release and there must be a retaining fastener on the backside. I did remove the allen head bolt under the lamp and nothing is loose. Thanks, Rob
  13. i've posted this request in the Watering Hole and considering my request is about RSTD i thought i would post here as well. i have an 07 midnight RSTD and was instalingl passing lamp mount bar part # STR-1D635-40-00 and found that i cannot fit my OEM flasher lamp onto the special bolt which is provided with the mount bar kit. the mount bolt is .020 (20 thousandth) larger in diameter than the flasher lamp mount hole (with rubber sleeve removed). no way it will fit. anyone here with an 07 that has done the passing lamp mod and if so could you provide me with the part numbers you used to do the job....thanks....HELP !! Merry Christmas to all ........ buz
  14. I've read thru the posts and still need some direction. i have an 07 rstd i purchased the Yamaha passing lamps and bar. I've got everything apart and have difficulty trying to push the stock turn lamp onto the special bolt supplied with the kit. here are the measurements - the o.d. of the special bolt supplied in kit (which the stock pass lamp is supposed to slide over) is .792 and the i.d. of the pass lamp is .772.....that is 20 thousands and i can tell you it ain't gonna fit without some grinding. i cannot believe yamaha expects the end users to have to grind or do machine work to make this fitment. anybody out there got any ideas? thanks, buz
  15. I have my passing lamp dealer installed at the time I purchased the bike. I went for a ride last Monday and discovered that my passing lamp (both lights) are no longer working. I checked the fuse box on the left side of the bike and all fuses are ok. All other lights work, rear lights, and turn signals work...except my passing lamps. Where else should I look...do I have to split the fairing (left side)?
  16. Ok what is the trick here? The passing lamp and turn signal on the right side has worked loose and I can't seem to figure out how to tighten it. It seems like I need to screw the passing lamp into the turn signal shaft, but it hits the fairing. Do I have to remove the whole assembly? And if that's the case, then how did it work itself loose? Very strange unless I'm missing something really obvious.
  17. Blowing off steam.... On my recent group ride to Arkansas, I started popping fuses on my passing lamps. I'd just rewired them recently to use a relay and direct connection to the battery, so I reckoned that's where the trouble lay. Then, on the last day, I lost my Gremlin Bell. Those suckers were determined to cause mischief! Last weekend, I tore apart the headlamp housing and looked at the relay set up. I also took apart the left passing lamp housing to look at the switch--that had shorted out before. Nothing seemed wrong, and when I put it back together, the lamps worked. Maybe a crimp? Today I looked and sure enough the passing lamps were off. The Gremlins were back. I tore everything apart that I had touched during the install and looked for smoky residue. I put in fuse after fuse, letting it pop while I looked for sparks. Nothing! Finally, I took apart the right passing lamp housing, and the wire was stuck to the back of the lamp bulb. Burned. That's where the short was, in something I'd never touched and had never been apart. Ugh! It was frusty, but still a nice way to spend an afternoon off. Dave
  18. Is the passing lamp spacer still available, and if so where and how much?
  19. The 2002 Venture I am picking up this week has the sealed beam passing lights. The dealer tells me that I would have to buy the light kit (including housings) for $137 if I want to switch to halogens (35W, H3 lamp). He also quoted $22 each for replacement sealed beam bulbs in case I just want to replace the existing lamps! Canadian prices are quite a bit higher than USA prices, but this seems a little out of line. If I decide to go with the halogen lamps, does anyone know whether I have to replace all of it or if I can just fit the new lenses and new reflector to the housings for the SB units- if so, where can I get these? If I can't switch to the halogens for a reasonable cost, what aftermarket sealed beam lamp is suitable? I am also thinking about changing the amber signal light lenses to the clear ones (with amber bulb). (Is the lens interchangeable?) The plastic lenses appear to be reasonably inexpensive but the front bulbs (dual filament - run, turn) are VERY expensive - a lot more than the lenses! It seems to me I read somewhere that you could buy a standard automotive lamp at a small fraction of the Yamaha price and file off one of the lugs to fit these sockets. What would be suitable for the rear bulbs (single filament, turn only). Thank you Ross
  20. Good Morning Everyone, I would like to replace my stock passing light bulbs with a brighter halogen lamp. However i'm not interested in increasing the amount of wattage draw on the system. My question is, what lamp would you recommend for this application? I would like a nice wide pattern not a narrow beam. I was told the Silver Star would work, but I dont know which one to look for. I like the super bright white look compared to the yellow tungsten. Forgot to mention i have the sealed beam type ! Thank you in advance for your suggestions! Please ride safe Frank
  21. Hi! I'm new to this website and also a new owner of an '05 RSV which I'm rebuilding from a salvage bike. I'm down to the last part - passing lamps. I saved the original passing lamp bar and turn signals hoping I could find another damaged one and swap out the parts. I did find an '07 passing lamp/bar but it seems to have different connectors for the turn signals. The old one has some kind of break-off-type cylinder (one of which is broken, of course) that connects the turn signal to the passing lamp above it. The "new" one has more of a solid type cylinder. Does anyone have any idea or experience with what I'm talking about here? I hope I can find the right break-off type cylinder or new adapter to mount the "new" lamp to my old bar or vice versa.... I thought all the 2nd generation RSVs had interchangeable parts!...??? I guess since the passing lamps are optional, then there are different configurations and different manufacturers. I don't really want to spend another $300 on a complete passing light set unless I can be assured it has the right connectors for the turn signals. I'd appreciate an assembly drawing if one exists, showing the connector between the turn signal and the passing lamp. Thanks,
  22. Received my Passing lamp set up today and there no instructions or parts breakdown. I think I might have the wrong bolt that mounts the lamp to the light bar both parts are factory Yamaha. The Lamps are #STR-4XY35-10-00 No bolts were supplied with the lights and the box was not opened before I received it. The bracket #STR-4XY35-40-00 was cut open in the middle where the hardware was and taped. Could anyone email or post a breakdown of the parts for these lights? Thanks
  23. I purchased a mounting bar and passing lamp off of E-bay for my 08 RSV. Either I have over looked the instructions or they didn't send any. I am an electrician so the electrical part is no problem. I'm looking for the mechainical instructions. I've searched for a thread with mechanical instructions and didn't find any. Found a lot on the electrical side.....that doesn't mean there isn't one, I just couldn't find it. My questions are: 1. How do I incorporate the blinkers? 2. Exactly where does it mount? 3. Mechanically, how much time should I plan on spending mounting the lights? Any advise would be appreciated.... Thanks!!
  24. I'm in the middle of installing my factory passing lamp mount and ran into a snag. I've just attached the passing lamps themselves to the mount and now I'm in the process of attaching the turn signals, problem is, I can't make the connection because of the rubber sleeve. Is this supposed to be removed before installation? Or is there a way to wrestle it on properly? (took a lot of twisting and pulling to remove the signals from the original bar in the first place) Bluez
  25. Hey Everyone.... I have looked and looked on the site and have not found anything about the following I got from the Star Touring Remedy List... Do NOT buy the Venture passing lamps. Instead, buy the V-Star halogen passing lamps. They will fit the Venture passing lamp mounts with no problem. Remove the red wiring from the switch in one of the lamp housings and wire it to the Venture lamp switch. Why do this? Unlike the sealed beams, the halogen lamps have a replaceable H3 bulb. Pull out the bulbs and keep them as spares. Purchase the PIAA or Silverstar Ultra H3 bulbs. They are still 35 watt bulbs (i.e. do not consume more power), but put out 70 watts of light. Passing lamps part no.: STR-4NK35-10-00 OK...$88.00 for the H-3 Lamps on this site fhttp://www.motorsportssupercenter.com/pages/newvehicles/viewlines/62/Yamaha_Lines.aspx for the Halogen passing lamps....Unless there is an EASY way to change the Passing Lamps...I did see some posts for the Adjure lights...ANYONE here do this mod?....I have done the Silverstar Bulb for the Headlight.... ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS....:confused24: George In Virginia...
