I just bought a low mileage '83 Venture. Seeing as how it's stablemate is a KLR650 I hate leaving it behind when I go up in the canyons. So my question is: How do I 'dual-sport' this bike? You know, knobbies, knocking off 400-500 pounds, skid pan, 12" clearance. high pipes, safe for water crossings, making short jumps of 20-30 feet. etc., etc.... You know? A single track, mountain climbing monster! heh heh heh

I have a small knocking noise when the scoot sits in neutral with the clutch out. When i squeeze the clutch it will go away. This is just starting to happen. Is there an adjustment that might be out.Only thing I have done different is change the oil.(rotella 15/45) I did change the 6003 bearing because it started to make noise.

Ok all you experts; I have a couple questions concerning replacing the motor in my 86 with a motor from an 89. I am of the opinion that the original motor either has a piston slap or some other type of subtle knocking noise only on deceleration. I am quite certain the knocking is there when riding but due to other noise I cannot distinguish this particular knocking from all the other noise. The knocking noise is quite noticeable when the motor is at normal operating temp and when still. Doesn't matter if the tranny is in neutral or any other gear. Anyway, the bike is in otherwise outstanding condition and looks almost new. So, I found another really good motor from an 89 that will be going in (41K miles). Here is my question: 1) Since the replacement is coming without carbs, will the carbs from the 86 mount and operate without any issues? I think they will but would like to hear other opinions. 2) I believe all the electronics are the same but what other concerns or issues might I be overlooking? Thanks for the advise.

I just saw this on the Road Star Clinic forum and wondered if it was someone here and if he is ok? Southeast Alabama I believe. "wreck happened sat, threw the motorcycle driver knocking him out, he was unresponsive when the paramedics arrived, truck ran the redlight" http://roadstarclinic.com/images/fbfiles/images/Picture_009_small.jpg

Has anyone experienced a knocking sound that seems to be coming from the water pump? I can't imagine what could be causing the knocking noise that seems to be more noticeable at idle and slightly above idle. Doesn't seem to be the clutch cause the knocking doesn't change with the clutch engaged or not. The clutch does make some noise when not engaged. The knocking sounds it definately coming from the water pump. The bike is an 88 VR and does not overheat even on the hotest Texas days. Any advise from anyone would be most welcome. Thanks Masterguns

Ok... I just changed out my stator on my 86. I get it back together, all buttoned up... and changed the oil while I'm at it... fire it up! Hmmmm... What's that knocking noise from the left crankcase cover?? I don't have any leftover parts, so any ideas??
